My best guess is SM may have attempted to walk from the GD store directly toward her house by attempting to cross the stretch of creek on the side of S. 5th Street where the GD store and her house are located... she may have slipped in the rushing creek, as it was deep enough from thunderstorm rain for creek rush to have carried her under the bridge to the discovery location.

This is a video of water flowing in the DG/Comet store parking area on Sept 9, 2016:

It could be that the creek had risen to street level at the bridge and SM may have attempted to avoid the water rushing in the road.

Away for a day or two....returned this evening to find this sad news. RIP Shevy. :tears:

A double-tragic thought: if the water was deep enough and the creek bed downstream was 'clear' enough SM could have ended up in the Clarion River and LE still might be searching. In this type case homicide is assumed until ruled out by LE. They're dotting their Is, crossing their Ts... this most likely will be ruled an accident.

Read a comment that they "had a board across the creek and that's how they crossed it."

Wet wood is slippery.

I used to live in the Florida Keys - we had water for our front yard, and water for our back yard; we had a lot of water there! As such, tourists, when they'd go out on the ocean, would often ask, "how deep is the water here"? Usually the Ship's Captain would reply, "it doesn't matter if it's over your head". People there often would drown in a mere 6" of water - they'd fall on their back under the water and couldn't get up. It doesn't take much! As a friend of mine down there used to say, "remember, when you go into the water, you're at the very bottom of the food chain".

At what link? TIA.

I am unable to again locate the exact comments (from more than one commenter)... they are multi-levels deep in this thread on the exploreclarion FB page:

EDIT: I located one of the comments in reply to ME's post, by AS. She indicated she was told about the board by someone who knows the family.

Just now found an opposing comment from a JL:
"There was no board like someone said [sic], they would just cross it normally using stepping stones."

JL also posted a video of the
"EXACT place that they cross the creek"
he recorded in 2014:

This is such sad news! RIP sweet Shevy!

I have to wonder... she went into the DG for a coloring book, how long could she have been there? I'm imagining that she had to cross the creek to get TO the DG, and that she was in the store for maybe 10 minutes? Then headed home the same route (back across the creek). If she made it across to get TO the DG, what happened on the way back home? She must have slipped? And maybe didn't know how to swim :(. I feel so bad for her family :(

Shevy's mom just lost her 13 year old daughter out of the blue. It seems very inappropriate to talk about her with no real evidence, when the death was ruled an accident.

Her family members are victims.

The post I was referring to has been deleted, I'd you're wondering what I'm talking about.

The worlds gone mad. You should be able to walk to the store or anywhere for that matter alone & feel & be completely safe. Poor girl & poor family x

Wow.....accidental drowning ?!!? ...............I sure didn't see that one coming. It's very believable though, kids being overly adventurous and all.

I guess we should apologize to all of the sex offenders in the neighborhood....................naaaaa, let's not.

LE probably needed to check up on all of them anyway.

I don't believe this for one minute

She was 13, supposed to have crossed a creek full of water with a newly bought coloring book, she would have known it would be wet.

Nope. Not having it at all.

Also she was found without her pink sweater, she just laid in the water and threw it off?

Also, her coloring book has not been found.
Also, the place she was found had already been searched and she was not there.
