I very much doubt he told them anything, why would he?
Doesn't seem fair to me either.

Could it be that JVS offered them a substantially larger than normal fee to drive him to the border?

I dont think he told them anything, but if someone is going to the air port and then changes direction when they see so many cops that should tip the cab drivers off that something smells funny. They could have dialed 911 or what ever number is available in Peru left the phone off the hook while discussing with their passenger the direction they are taking, in order to help the police rather then to help divert anything.
Just an opinion.

I didn't hear that Joran had a cell phone in his possession when he was captured, although he must have. It would be interesting to see who he was texting and calling after the murder until the time he was captured. I'm sure he was trying to solicit additional funds.

I have to discount the truthfulness of the latest version of Joran's confession because it doesn't seem logical to me. It is hard for me to imagine that a petite female, first time visitor to a relative stranger's bedroom would act the way Joran described. I can't believe that, upon discovering (from computer info) she was alone with a suspected murderer ~ her first reaction is to attack him?!!?!!!! Pftt.

What? It's like she would say, "You're a murderer and you had the nerve to invite me here?" Slap ~ Take that. Nope, nope, nope. The whole scenario is asinine. moo

Wow....no wonder Joran is fearing for his life at Castro Castro (not that that's a bad thing!!!). In Jan., they even killed the head of the prison:

"Manuel Vasquez Coronado, Director of 'Miguel Castro Castro' prison was shot to death this morning in Lima, Peru."

Some photos of Castro Castro prison.

Too bad we can't get a look at a 'private' cell, but I'm certain it's fair from a room at the Waldorf...or even at the Hotel Tac for that matter!!

Inside the walls...looks like he'll have to do his own laundry:

The only thing I do not like about this is that he may be in a privet cell instead of the general public.
And that he may get 15-35 years instead of LWOP
Other wise these housing accommodations are perfect for him.

Looks like he gave his cell phone to the taxi driver. This is from Post #36 in the translation thread:

His plan was to board a plane and so he went to Jorge Chavez airport but when he saw police he changed his mind and took a taxi to Ica. He paid 1500 soles and gave a gift of a Ferrari watch, a camera, cell phone, perfume/cologne, and clothing.

BBM

Could it be possible Joran got the coffee before going to the casino, took it to his room, left the cups there and then used them for the later ruse? :waitasec:

I don't think he had planned that far out in advance, or anticipated what was going to happen. I think the "going out for coffee" ruse evolved after he murdered her. JMO

Love your sense of humor, ITA but he does lie a lot.
If there was not so much overwhelming evidence against him I am sure we would have hard a different set of BS stories.

Joran planned to attend a college in Tampa, Florida, and play on the soccer team. He and Anita had visited the college together... she talks about it in an interview with GVS. Sorry, don't have the link.

All that changed after the Natalee brouhaha, and he ended up attending a college in the Netherlands. Then he attended a college in Thailand. I don't think he ever earned a degree.

Thank God that never happened! Can you imagine if Joran and Casey were living that close to one another? We here in FL have our hands full enough with problems already. . .

I would think that they just want to keep him alive until the trial...thus the private cell.

Once he's convicted, then they'll put him in with all the other murderers and he's on his own!!....JMOO

Can anyone make sense of the "I'll kill the mongolito" message Joran said he received? I looked up "mongolito" and it means "*advertiser censored*" in Spanish. Was this a threat directed at Joran? Could it have enraged him to be called a "*advertiser censored*"?

From Post #42 in the translation thread:

De acuerdo con su narración, él y Stephany ingresaron a su habitación cerca de las 5.30 a.m. del día 31 de mayo después de jugar en el casino Atlantic City. Según contó, a Stephany se le ocurrió que podían jugar póker en Internet y por eso fueron a su cuarto.

According to his account of events, he and Stephany entered his room about 5:30 am on the 31st of May after gambling in the Atlantic City casino. He said that it occurred to Stephany that they could play poker online and so they went to his room.

En ese momento –contó- recibió un correo que decía “te voy a matar mongolito”, el cual se refría al asesinato de Natalee Holloway, la joven estadounidense a quien se le acusa de haber asesinado en Aruba en el año 2005.

At that time, he said, he received an email that said, "I'll kill the mongolito," which he said referred to the murder of Natalee Holloway, the young American girl who he was accused of killing in Aruba in 2005.

IMHO sh4e one a loot of money, he planed to get away from her, so he did plan something.
I dont think it was as easy he he thought it would be and she resisted. Then he had to think fast, and could not possibly cover it up. He certainly did empty her wallet before leaving that room.

I was just going to comment on this same thing. I believe he even had a soccer scholarship at the FL college. He was also a competitive tennis player, and a good student. So I'm not sure where this brain damage, uncoordinated stuff is coming from. He had everything going for him and blew it!

I also think it's odd that a cell phone hasn't been mentioned. I find it hard to believe that he didn't have one, even if it was a 'throw away'. By all accounts, he seems likes the type that would need to stay in touch - if only to keep up with his various con games.

I have read the previous threads and participated in them. I don't think anything has been satisfactorily answered- others have submitted their interpretations of why the evidence keeps changing, but at least for myself, I don't find those interpretations convincing.

It was stated in numerous news accounts, for several days, that Joran's room wasn't checked for three days because he told the hotel not to check it, since he would be back. The additional detail of "don't bother my girl" was added at one point. This was an attempt, imho, to explain the otherwise unexplainable fact that there was a three day lapse between time of death and discovery of the body.

If you (and perhaps others) don't think Joran actually told the staff not to check his room, I completely agree with you. However, if he didn't tell them, then why wasn't the room cleaned and prepped for the next guest the same day he left, as would be the standard protocol?

BBM: possibly because it's a seedy motel & doesn't get much business and/or poor management/staff...

I got the impression that was Stephany's phone. IIRC, her phone wasn't discovered right away. Quite possible I misunderstood, though.
