I don't see why he asked the cousino owner to call either...He had VDS phone #.. Why not call himself. This is where the kidnapping sinereo starts to take form, and also mentioning that they "both" might have been kidnapped.. Why say something like that.??? How did he EVEN know what Stephanys plans were...???

Maybe he thought by having the casino call instead of him inquiring that his name would be kept out of it...but we see that didn't work, he has been ordered not to leave the country.

There are may videos we won't see for awhile.. They do not want to provide anything towards his defense...Thats for his lawyer to do...I would think if Garcia and VDS had 2 dinner plans in advance.. and staying in the same hostel, surely there is video of Garcia entering that room on some of those days...or I would think...

If the investigation is ongoing for another 7 days before Joran is to be officially charged (as has been reported) I'm sure anyone who is a witness to events and not a Peruvian national will be asked to stick around. At least I would hope so. Right?!? I don't find this very suspicious at all.

Exactly, my point. Could've even called himself (he had # on his cell) just to see if anyone answered.

We don't know that he didn't try to call, or that he didn't knock on the door. The hotel may have declined to "check" on a guest at the behest of another guest. I wouldn't like it if someone I barely knew got the hotel management to check my room. It might be that Garcia thought Joran was ducking him and that if a casino manager called, Joran would contact him. I think Garcia intuited that something was wrong and tried to find out if Joran and Stephany were together. He might even have thought they were just ducking her family and wanted to give them a heads up that she was "missing." Or he might have known about Joran's past and got very nervous when he heard Stephany was missing and then tried to intervene without getting in too deep.

We don't know, yet. but I'll bet Garcia will be on GVS or NG or Geraldo or Dateline as soon as LE officially clears him. His story will be ,sot interesting. however, I think he is just part of the puzzle that led to Joran finally get getting caught, not a major player in the murder itself.

It certainly is different having a case where there is actually some type of proof of who the perp is. This is so real that it makes you feel like its not.

IIRC, the articles I read (posted here) stated that Garcia went to the Casino looking for JVDS and it was the Casino who told him about SR's body being found. That's when he stated they should call the Hostel and expressed concern for JVDS's safety. Then when Garcia returned to the Hostel, Peruvian police showed him surveillance video and Garcia identified Stephany at that point. They showed him pics of her deceased body. This is my understanding of the events reported.

I agree with this post, it makes perfect sense.

I would be curious in Garcia and JVDS have any of the same contacts on their cell phones...

This link was posted several hours ago but haven't seen any others reporting on it. Has anyone else?

Think this is another rumor like last week's?

Hi Cher, I looked around for updates as well. My best guess is that the same person who tweeted and started the "Suicide at the Border" rumor last week is pulling the same stunt, today. I think the other media outlets would be all over this if it were true. JMHO

I wonder if there are any of rules that Peru LE must follow regarding having an interpretor for foreigners.
It doesn't seem that Joran has been provided with that.

Just a new article from cnn.

http://www.cnn.com/2010/CRIME/06/06/peru.victim.joran/

Eventually, authorities found surveillance video of the young woman at the hotel where the tournament was held.
"At first, it was a relief because I saw her and that gave me hope," Enrique Flores said. "The people at the hotel told us, 'Yeah, she was with this guy. He seemed nice. He looked like Brad Pitt.'"

I'm hoping the same... It would explain alot of the confusion.... again, probably lost in translation...

According to the MSN Today Show segment video clip they are saying he will be formally charged today.

But still, I wonder how long you can be ask to stay around...as long as they say??

Mark Fuhrman on Fox news just now says there are bars on the rooms where Joran stayed....that ends speculation that anyone could enter from outside, at least in my opinion, lol

Whew, that rules out Spiderman!

Was that the guy Geraldo had on last night? I must admit I have forgotten most of it but there are so video clips of it a few pages back.

*That guy was the BROTHER of a famous singer. Not the famous singer himself.

I am way behind & trying to catch up a little.

*Maybe kidnapping is a money making crime in that country, that why the man suspected kidnapping.

*Maybe Stephany was recognizable the way a daughter of the Bush's or Al Gore would be here, to us, to people who were familiar with the country and the people. Maybe no introduction was necessary.

*Maybe that hotel is not so tacky by Peru's standards.

*I think the baseball bat translation came from them describing the tennis racket being used like a bat or swung like a bat holding onto the racket and winging the handle at her head. (Are the handles weighted in "real" professional tennis rackets?)

all JMO

Thank you, this is exactly the information I was looking for to clear up my confusion.

Why would the hotel have his passport?

Yeah, I am doubting this was the case, Like the Casino, I think they had a copy. Like in this country where they take your drivers license and copy it sometimes. You are not supposed to let your passport get too far from your physical person when traveling abroad. I think Joran was aware of this. I think its unlikely people had to surrender their passports to the hotel. Unless they did that as a way to insure people didn't run out on the bill? Dunno.
Anyway, wouldn't he have needed the passport to cross the border from Peru to Chile? How did he do that w/out a passport?
