He apparently confessed in hopes of getting charged with manslaughter and avoiding a long sentence. That's the way I'm reading this. Apologies, its Google Translate

However, the criminal lawyer said that Van der Sloot will have to prove their claims, for what should determine whether your computer has been tampered with during his time with Stephany Flores. Así se comprobará si no se trata de una coartada del acusado. This will check if it is not an alibi of the accused.

Waterboarding? Maybe - they might have gotten that far by now - but they have many, varied and horrific "ways" of getting people to talk nowadays. My bet is their "interrogation techniques" are quite effective.

As for what he gains in confessing? First - the "torture" stops. Second - they could be "telling" him bunches of things - showing him footage of Lurigancho and just what awaits him - tell him if he talks and says what happened they "might - wink, wink" get him into a different prison. But my money is on the interrogation techinques - he wanted them to STOP.

What is on that laptop???? Will he give up about Natalee? Stephany's father has been adamant about getting justice for her and Beth and family as well. Let's hope they don't stop. Or they don't need him with what is on that computer.....

Karnack predicts that JVDS will not be around too much longer. And that COD will be **ahem** suicide.

I don't believe he did what he did because of a laptop, or anything that could possibly be on it. He was already high on his intentions before they ever entered the room. Bad seed, inherently evil, whatever you want to call it, he already knew what the outcome would be and he was getting off on it before they ever entered the room.

Cher, I posted the link to Tac's info and photos. No mini bar listed. It's a hostel.

Can't access photo of hostel, but restaurant (big letters) on front in photo - may share lobby space with hostel, or can enter through hostel lobby.

Fox news is reporting he confessed.

An official in Peru reportedly says Joran van der Sloot has confessed to killing a 21-year-old female student who police say he met playing poker at a casino.
• SLIDESHOW: Holloway Case | FULL COVERAGE

One of the articles posted awhile back said that Peru has him in custody and cannot be compelled to release him to anyone at this point. When they are done with him, including his time served, then the next country that wants him and has done the appropriate extradition paperwork would get next crack. Now they could choose to extradite him somewhere before his 35 years is up, but that does not seem likely. When his time is done if no one has requested him he automatically goes back to his home country.

Similar to the US: I had my purse stolen several years ago. A few days later, someone in the country illegally was found at a bank trying to case a check. The crime was enough to be a felony. The attorney told me after court that he would serve his time first, and then be deported at the end of time served. I think that's probably how it is in most countries: serve your time, then let go. :twocents:

FYI, I'm glad Peru paid attention to his confession, unlike Aruba...

Somehow - even with all that transpired 5 years ago in Aruba, and the way Anita described Joran as a nearly-perfect child (paraphrasing) and even though I believe she has since gained knowledge/acceptance of his involvement in Natalee's disappearance -
I am feeling some sense of sorrow for what Anita and his two younger brothers are living with now, and will live with for years to come. IDK - maybe his younger brothers don't have the same grief over these tragedies as their mother may. But, from a human perspective her life has not been the same for the past 5 years. Now, it has gotten much worse than I would think she could have ever imagined. JMHO

Just had a strange thought about his brother. If your dad had recently died, your mom was having a hard time, your mom just found out her son (your brother) was once again the suspect in a murder, would you be out partying like you didn't have a care in the world--or would you be at home with your mom?? Seems lke very Joran like behavior to me, shudder the thought.

I don't believe any of this. Just like I don't believe he said he wanted a Pervuian lawyer instead of Dutch.

Remember BethK. was speaking about FBI tonight and implying ongoing investigation in Aruba - bet all info found on his laptop. Maybe, where Natalie is. Possibly others. He confessed because too much is on his computer.

Costalpilot; i'm gonna wait and see what comes up about their laws. I don't know how similiar they are to ours. Plus, I don't think they are going to fail Stephanys family, and allow JVS to spin it his way. Even if it is manslaughter they have him running and they probably will get some extra incentive from the US.

Like Nana46 said this "genius" didn't have password protection on his computer.

OME

It's possible he may be lying about his motives to get the charges reduced to manslaughter, IOW, he's claiming he killed her on impulse because she was on his computer. If the police check out the computer and find she didn't access it, he will still be charged with murder.

This just came in on my CNN breaking news email alert. Not sure if you all know about it yet or not?

- Authorities say suspect Joran van der Sloot has confessed to the murder of a
Peruvian woman, CNN reports.

and lo and behold heres what they are reporting he is saying:

(which exactly fits the reasoning of the guy who said if he can make anybody believe THAT story, the charge is manslaughter in Peru. a REFLEX killing...a mistake.)

NBC:A high-ranking Peruvian government official confirmed to NBC News that Joran van der Sloot confessed to the murder of a 21-year-old Lima woman.According to La Republica newspaper, he said that his anger exploded and he broke Stephany Flores' neck after she grabbed to use his laptop without his permission, and found out that he was involved in the murder of an American.Read the whole story: NBC

Was it on NG or some other show that stated they were searching 2 areas...a swamp and some other location in Aruba...please forgive me I took my ambien to fall asleep and then this news broke...ugh!
