Okay. I know we have all said this but it bears saying again...hey, sociopath! That is NOT a reason to kill someone!! His "confession" proves he is a killer! IMHO. Let him stick with that reason...that is no reason!

:twocents:

Really would like an accurate report of what he was asked, and how he responded.

HLN News: Peruvian Police say confession was dramatic; was crying during the confession; he said she grabbed his laptop w/out his permission
I think Joran is an actor, so I hope he isn't getting any sympathy for his theatrics.

According to La Republica: Joran confessed that he gave her a strong Karate chop to the neck. Also reported that since he confessed with a lawyer present & the confession otherwise was obtained strictly following procedure and the law, there is no chance it will be thrown out by a court. PS Also reported that he confessed at 5:30 pm after they showed him the videotapes taken at the hotel showed that no one else could have done this.

I just wanted to comment on the new photos of STF and how absolutely beautiful she really was. The first couple days I only saw the one photo. Glad the media is showing these. Rest in peace <3
Justice for Stephany
May the angels lead us to Natalee

If there was "barbaric" coercion off camera, JVS will have to prove it. My impression from reading the Dutch editorial was that they have no specific allegations against the Peru authorities other than objections to the way JVS was paraded in front of the media with a bullet-proof vest. They felt making him wear the vest was prejudicial to public opinion.

It seems somewhat hypocritical for the Dutch media to object to JVS treatment as prejudicial, yet they also imply the Peruvian authorities are barbaric without presenting any evidence to support that claim. Goose, gander.

There wouldn't be any proof at all. I think the psychological "fear" would be enough. Very effective.

Thanks Betty P for clearing that up, I was starting to think my "menopause" brain was at work here, tried to copy your post but the server must be on overload!

No problem. While I've been a long time lurker here, I'm still not very adept at posting and quoting articles.

The Dutch media is to be commended for advocating for a fair trial, but I think they went overboard a little. It appears Peru is doing the best job they can in handling the investigation fairly according to their laws.

JVS's confession was more likely motivated by his desire to get a lighter sentence than the result of brutal interrogation tactics. He knows he's in a jam, he probably thought the incriminating evidence he left behind would be irrelevant if he could get out of SA. Didn't work, so now he's on to Plan B - lie and manipulate the Peruvian LE enough to limit the damage.

I have felt this for a while and it is getting stronger. I think sociopaths have emotions. I think they have as many emotions as anyone. It's just that only have them for themselves. I think that makes them even worse. They know, they know what is right or wrong. They know they are hurting people and they love it! They aren't missing emotions, they are missing something much more important.

Thanks for that information! It makes sense. Having been on the run and not reading the news, he probably wasn't aware of all the solid evidence they had against him. He knew his goose was cooked.

Surely he knew there was a camera outside his door, though. Maybe not.

A heart/soul

Have to wonder if he was present when they pulled his bloody clothes out of his duffelbag? That would be an A-HA / kodak moment if ever there was one.

They also reported that he claimed robbery was not a motive, that he took her money because he was broke and needed it to escape.

Forgive me if that has already been posted, hard to keep up.

But, he says he killed her because she looked at his computer and it had info on NH on it.

Well, I'm sure that computer has been looked at right? Could that be the reason for the new search? Because there was info on there about where her body is?

Again, sorry if this has been posted.

Hi enav.

It's so interesting to watch the process of justice from an other country.
Peru is an extaordinary place.

To return to the scene of the crime, must be overwhelming psychologically for the accused. Questioning on scene, then being made to recount events.

Does he have to go back to the scene of the crime? Can he decline? He must have some kind of plea deal on the table if he's agreed to go back otherwise he has nothing to gain by going to the room again.

He's not exactly the brightest bulb in the box;)

I'm actually believing he may be telling the truth about most of it. Who knows why she went there in the first place, maybe to see his laptop before she bought one. I really think it makes more sense that she was not wearing jeans if she wasn't killed till right before he left. They went there around 5 am, talked & drank a coke. It's entirely possible they laid down to take a nap before going back to the casino. In that case, she could easily have removed her jeans to sleep. If he went out for coffee like he said and came back to find her on the computer, I could see him being upset that she might find personal info. He probably blew his top before realizing how dangerous he was going to be. I honestly think he would have been grooming this girl as a friend--rich with connections. She would have been worth more to him alive as someone to mooch off I think.

bolded by me.

I wonder if Joran even realizes how ridiculous this sounds! Oh my God! What a heinous crime--she grabbed my laptop without my permission! Sounds like a first-grader or kindergartener ! Only a person who feels SO guilty about what Stephany could find in the laptop would react so violently. JMO

They also reported that he claimed robbery was not a motive, that he took her money because he was broke and needed it to escape.

The article at your link also states if they can prove he robbed Stephany in addition to murdering her, he is subject to a sentence of life in prison

The criminal and university professor Hidalgo Reategui Socrates said that if it is shown that the Dutchman stole the money that the victim had in her purse would be caught by Article 188 of the Penal Code which punishes up to life imprisonment for murder with robbery.

BBM

They probably told him that, too. I hope they can prove he robbed her.

I believe this was the nail... [his father] may have been able to sweep the trail in Aruba, but the video was just to much for him to weasel around. If he was presented with competent legal council, was shown the video, and told a confession may reduce his sentence withing the Peru system... maybe even adding a statement about how America was ready to extradite with extortion charges... and he cracked.

My only desires for the man man not are two...
  1. Fess up what you know on Hollaway
  2. Get pulled back to face charges in American and become cell mates with Casey Anthony
