Heroin is an epidemic, most don't want to believe or hear it.
It's cheap. We had (2) 20 year old's die this past week. :banghead:

He was only 46.Bless his heart.I loved him in Capote.

He knew, or so it seems.

snipped
"I have so much empathy for these young actors that are 19 and all of a sudden they're beautiful and famous and rich," he said in the interview. "I'm like, 'Oh my God, I'd be dead."'

From the link:

Hoffman is succeeded by his girlfriend, costume designer Mimi O'Donnell, their son, Cooper and two daughters, Tallulah and Willa.

From articles I've read, he seemed to be alone. Thank goodness his poor kids didn't find him with the needle in his arm. :(

This makes me so sad!!
He had such talent, too.
I am at a loss for words right now......
God Bless You and RIP Philip Seymour Hoffman.
You left us too soon!!!

I am absolutely heartbroken over this. RIP

I too have always liked him very much as an actor. And I was quite shocked to read that he was found dead in his bathroom with the needle still in his arm and a packet of heroin nearby.

Good Lord, this man had three small children! How very sad that with all his success in life he succumbed (once again, apparently) to addiction.

I'm wondering if he somehow got hold of some of the "killer heroin" that has killed over a dozen addicts in Western Pennsylvania over the past week? In any case, such a shame. So sad that three children will grow up without a father.

I am so incredibly heartbroken over this. No words, just sadness.

Some Twitter celebrity reactions to Hoffman's passing:

Dear Philip, a beautiful beautiful soul. For the most sensitive among us the noise can be too much. Bless your heart. ;^{

Addiction is real. It is a real & vicious disease. It rips beauty from the world. Please, if you suffer, ask for help. You're not alone.
— Martha Plimpton (@MarthaPlimpton) February 2, 2014

Every single person in my timeline who says addiction is a choice gets the block. There's no room 4 that kind of ignorance. Not interested.

No! :(

He was one of my favorites. . . such a brilliant actor.

So tragic. Heroine and three young children that will have to grow up without their dad now.

I'm shocked! I'd never heard he had a drug problem. What an amazing actor. I remember when I saw him in Twister I knew he was going to be huge.
RIP.

I am heartbroken. He was my favorite actor.

I don't think "Before the Devil Knows You're Dead" was huge but it is one of my favorite of his movies. "Doubt" and "Capote" as well.....

RIP....

Me as well :(; I've never seen Capote, I think I'm going to watch it now. I'm so sad.

He'd been 23 years clean before falling off the wagon in 2012. It just goes to show you how powerful the lure of drugs can be, doesn't it? I'm a recovering addict (pills were my drug of choice) 15 years clean, and I catch myself saying "I used to be an addict" but you can never say "used to be". I'm always in recovery. I'd be lying if I said didn't think about popping a pill every once in a while even today. I was recently prescribed a codeine cough syrup and turned it down. I just can't go there.

ETA: Ugh, sorry to make it all about me. My condolences to his family and all of those close to him. Three kids without a dad now. And such a tragic blow to the film industry. He will be missed by so many.
