I watched it. Also have it DVRed, but would have no idea how to get it from there to here.

Anyway, most of the program was so-so. I can't really deal with the host. He seems very over-the-top, almost like he's acting. It is an emotional and terrible subject and he says he lost a sister-in-law to the same type of murder, but still, he seems a bit dramatic.

They basically told a rough story about each woman and their murder. They drove around showing you the general area and the drainage ditch. Said it wasn't that hidden and that anyone roughly familiar with the area could have figured out it was back there. Proposed that the murders could've taken place anywhere; the girls could've even been lured out to the ditch area itself and murdered there.

"13", the serial killer said he felt the killer strangled his victims because it allowed him to feel the life force draining out of them and also because if he was taking them in a vehicle, it wouldn't be bloody, said he probably had a foot fetish, and was interested in an AC/LISK connection.

They talked about some possible suspects, but didn't name names.

Hugh Auslander was interviewed when they talked about Kim Raffo. He didn't really say anything interesting except to say he was looking for her. He seems a little shady, but I don't know that I was getting guilty vibes from him for these murders...not that vibes mean anything.

The only really interesting part of the show for me was when they interviewed the anonymous girl at the end, which has been mentioned. Here is her story:

She was apparently taken by 2 black males to a party where there where other prostitutes including Kim Raffo and a white male doing drugs, etc. While she was there, she saw 2 female bodies in a bed that she thought were simply women who had passed out and now she realizes they may have been dead and may have been 2 of the AC victims.

At some point the white guy left saying he had to take care of something.

At some other point later in the night the white guy, having come back, started acting strangely saying there was something awful he had done in his past. Either he or he with help from at least one of the black guys started trying to strangle either the interviewee or another woman at the party- I can't recall, I'll have to rewatch. She got away, but Kim Raffo stayed behind.

She did not give a description of any of the males beyond race, which is frustrating, but maybe she was scared or it is possible she could be lying...who knows? At any rate, if its true, it is verrrry interesting.

Hope this helps.

Here's some notes that I jotted down while watching the show.

'13'

Says SK is a structured individual. The AC case is one of 13's favorite cases. He said strangling is up close and personal. Also, it is neater, with no blood in his car during transport. He wants to see his victims suffer. Says Sk has a foot fetish, he is smart,...doesn't leave clues......He hasn't stopped.....he is not in AC anymore. '13' believes that he is responsible for the GB4 and thinks he has a boat. Sk invites women out on his boat so no one can hear them scream. 13 thinks SK hit AC because of the democratic convention in AC bringing in working girls from out of town.
(Was there a Democratic conv. in AC in 2006? I haven't googled it)

'Tim Braun'

He caught Charles Cullen, a NJ SK. TB thinks SK revisits his 'work' and keeps the footwear to relive his crimes.

'Dr Ed Merski'

He says the shoes are sexually stimulating to SK. Says SK relives crimes by fantisizing with the shoes, touching them, smelling them...

'Hugh Auslander'

Ex hubby of Kim Raffo. He says he called her cell after he was told she was dead, IIRC by his brother. Somebody answered Kim's phone and hung up on him. The person never spoke but he heard backgroud noise/ busy noise. Says it seemed like they accidentally answered without thinking. He says the girls didn't like the 'pike' as it was out of their comfort zone and he thinks SK lured them with something for them to agree to go there with him. Encourages anyone with info to come forward.

'Anonymous Working Girl'

AWG was friends and worked with Kim Raffo. AWG and another escort were picked up by 2 black men in a van and taken to a party at a hotel. KR was there, as well as an unidentified white man. KR was in one bed, in the other bed were two women who didn't move at all the whole time. Then the party moved to a motel in the area where the bodies were found. The two women in bed were left behind. AWG says the white man left the new party place at some point. They were all doing crack. AWG got freaked out and left the 'party' before the others due to the guys behavior, calling names, being aggressive etc.. ONe of the guys tried to strangle her friend and she reported it to LE and encouraged AWG to do the same but she didn't due to fear.. The guys were arrested but released for lack of evidence. AWG feels the two women in the bed were Tracy and Barbara who were already dead. Says she asked Kim
"Who are they?" and kim answered, "IDK, they were not here before I left and returned." Kim was found dead approx a week later.

'My Observations on the show'

I thought the dramatizations were sensational for shock effect. Some scenes were disturbing, yet I guess truthful about the life of a working girl and the drug use that goes with the lifestyle. There were dramatizations of snorting coke, shooting herion, being choked with a ligature, and then the downright creepy shots of the supposed SK caressing and sniffing/smelling the shoes he kept. Not to mention the shots of the supposed dead women were all shown lying face up althought Phelps said they were found face down with heads turned to the east. (although one detective thinks their heads got turned that way due to the flow of the water in the ditch which apparently has a current.)
At one point Phelps states that the 3rd victim, Tracy Ann Roberts, was Asphixiated in Nov. 2005. I thought "WTH?!" (I majored in communications and broadcasting and am a stickler for getting the facts correct and was surprised by this mistake)

Overall, I liked the show and feel it certainly serves a purpose in bringing awareness to these cases. Phelps seems to operate on emotion due to his SIL's unsolved murder and his heart seems to be in the right place. Kelly seems to operate on logic and is no nonsense.

I think the show is scheduled to air again in the next night or two. Just google Discovery ID and you can find the show's schedule.

This is all paraphrased and MOO. HTH

Aah, we were writing at the same time. you got the details I forgot!

@ waltzingmatilda

Great summation! I didn't catch that Phelps said the bodies were placed face down. That is an important detail especially since the dramatization shows the bodies on their backs. I'm sure Phelps' account of the events is the most accurate.

The show seemed sensationalized to me too. There was no need for that type of "shock value", IMO.

Maybe it is the shock value that could get him to make some sort of contact. I watched the trailers of other episodes and they all seem to have some shock value to them. I would bet that the show’s producers chose this case for the reason that they or "13" thinks he may make contact to the hosts or production team. Or better yet, "13". Kind of Like Hanabal Lector. They 48 hours and other shows have alot of journalistic value. The SK might not as sophisticated as thought. This may be an attempt to catch his eye with pictures, not facts and interviews. It could make him mad by how they portrayed the scenes, it could make him happy to sort of relive it. But whatever it may be, it would cause a bigger reaction than 48 hrs, ect....
If "13" says he thinks AC and GB4 are connected, and the GB4 SK contacted some of the families, maybe this could get him to take the step. If it's the same guy, he seems to have the need to talk about it. Yes to provoke a young girl and her family, but also to just speak about it would be a release. Heck he called numerous times.
Was there any mention of SG at all in the piece? That would be interesting to know what "13" has to say about that. He obviously follows the case so he must know about SG.

Just to chime in, I watch alot of ID (best channel on TV!) and some of their shows are very all-business and some are sensationalized like this. The reenactments on "Deadly Women" are particularly over-the-top and often funny. Other times, they will bust out the creepy reenactments like on this show. I guess it depends on the production company that makes them. With the Discovery docs, I think they're usually made independently/imported, bought, and put on the channel? Like they often won't be a straight-up Discovery Communications product. I know nothing about TV production, but it seems to be this way on ID.

Did anyone record the Dark Minds episode?
I really really hope so, if you did, PLEASE post a copy of it?
(I´m not in US so had no chance to see it)

And to those who saw the program; ANY resume, coments etc from /about the program would be appreciated.

Yes but you are not going to like what I have to say...

HA's interview made it clear as day that he is not a serial killer. Anyone who has any ability to read people could easily see that he is very hurt by the loss of the love of his life. His actions and demeanor are exactly as one would expect to see when observing a grieving spouse. I applaud his search efforts immediately following his ex-wife's death. He truly put himself in harm's way in attempt to track down her killer.

It is also interesting to note that he called her cell phone the day he learned that she was dead because (once again, as one would expect of a grieving spouse) he was in denial and did not think it was true. Interesting, someone answered her cell (but did not speak)!!!

I give HA a ton of credit. He is well aware that there are sleuthers out there like you who are completely obsessed (and convinced) with the notion that he somehow is both the ALC & LI SKers yet he still put himself out there by agreeing to this interview to let impartial people like me decide for ourselves what we think of him.

I am confident that hundreds of thousands of other viewers also are agree that HA is a victim, not a suspect!!!

nugzter, Shannan was not discussed at all in the show. I would be interested to hear 13's take on that also.

You might just be onto something wrt the shock value/contact angle!

I had a few issues with the show, in addition to what has already been discussed on here.

If I remember correctly, "13" said that he believes the perp used a boat in some way for the murder and possibly the disposal of the GB4... as far as disposal goes this is not exactly possible if you look at where the bodies were dumped in relation to the bay. The idea that the women were lured to a boat and killed there is possible I suppose but then they would have to be transported from the boat (where there could have been witnesses) to a car for disposal.

They also said some of the GB4 were found submerged in water, and suggested that could be a link to the AC killings (since those women were apparently under a few inches of water), but I don't ever remember any reports of the GB4 being found "submerged in water."

All in all, I personally still don't see the connection between AC and the LISK. JMHO of course.

(although one detective thinks their heads got turned that way due to the flow of the water in the ditch which apparently has a current.)

Thank you for the notes. Missing a detail; The detective's theory was that it was a storm surge and not just the normal water flow that faced the bodies all in the same direction.

I google mapped the AC4 crime scene. I noticed some things and would like to point them out.
1. Looking at the map it appears that the water is flowing from west to east. By the size of the "waves" it looks like it is somewhat strong. I cannot tell how deep.

2. If you notice on the west side of the map, there is an access road (Also one on the east side of the map but out of view) leading behind the Golden Key Motel leading up to an large advertising sign. A perfect place to park a car or truck. From there it is aprox. 100 feet to the ditch. Much easier than if he killed the AC4 in the hotel and had to carry them quite a bit further and over railroad tracks ect....

3. Also notice that the toll road is only about 50-70 feet from the ditch. It appears that the road is lined with "tall" trees. (shadows). And the area is aprox. 200-300 ft away from what appears to be the toll station. I have a hard time thinking that a SK would pull over at this spot and try to dispose of a body. Much less doing that 4 times. It looks like there are markers about every 200 ft on the toll road. Are they numbered?

I have not been reading alot on the case. Mostly working on the GB4. But I am starting to think there is a stronger connection.

Boy...I come across a myspace page like that and I instantly know that he sure could be a good man to have. :great:

BS has a facebook page, too. It looks like most of his friends are/were Filipino. Just put his name in your FB search bar. last posts were Dec 2010.

Here is another east coast (Columbia South Carolina) murder victim;
Candra Alston, 25, and her little girl 3-year-old Malaysia Boykin who was also brutaly murdered.
Candra Alstonan was an escort, advertising on Backpage.com

Candra Alston, and her daughter, was last seen Jan. 6, 2011

Candra Alston and Malaysia were found dead Jan. 9, 2011, in their apartment off of Broad River Road.

In January last year, a young mother and her 3-year-old daughter were found dead in their apartment in Columbia, South Carolina, in what a coroner described as one of the most horrific murder cases involving a child he had ever seen.

As police released new details they hoped might help to find the killer of Candra Alston, 25, and her little girl Malaysia Boykin this week, they confirmed for the first time that they were exploring the possibility of a link to Backpage.com.

But Alston also used her computer for a secret side of her life. She advertised herself as an escort on the website backpage.com. Alston’s family had been disappointed to find out about her actions just a month before she was killed.

Born: 12 Nov 1985
Died: 7 Jan 2011

FYI the recent 4 Detroit Escort/exotic dancer murders (3 of the victims where escorts the 4th an exotic dancer) who was found murdered, in pairs, in the trunk of two cars, also edvertised on backpage.com

And, I belive that, in some reports it was stated that Shannan Gilbert also advertised on backpage.com, and that it was a backpage.com add that Joseph Brewer responed to, but I´m not 100% sure this is correct.

I think an SK has to have a comfort zone in which to work and we would be getting pretty far a field to sleuth murdered prostitutes in other states unless there was much more of a connection than advertising on Backpage. I think Backpage advertises in many cities.

This killer might have a comfort zone along the east coast. Not too difficult with the interstate highway.

A New Yorker who lives in FL at times would know the N/S 95 corridor pretty well.
