A month or so ago, a forensic specialist stated that a body is best preserved if buried, but if submerged in water preserved better than left in the open.
Based on the conditions of the location where her remains were found, I think it's possible that Casey did partially bury the bag in a very shallow grave. Then tropical storm Fay dumped a lot of water, enough that created standing water in some areas for months. The neighbors in the area have stated that the area where the remains were found was submerged until just a few weeks ago.
I think the bag was washed out of the shallow grave with the torrential rain and was submerged for a long time. As the waters gradually receded, the bag came to rest in one spot and the weight of the bag created a slight depression in the muddy soil, giving it the appearance of having sat there a long time.
IF this turns out to be correct, I think it's very possible that the remains are preserved to some extent.......more so than if left in the open all this time. I'm hopeful that this is the case as it gives the medical examiner more to work with in determining cause and manner of death.
