I just read that letter on Twitter. CMJA planned all this, requesting to represent herself, & then writes all these letters that have nothing to do with her penalty trial. She is truly abusing the system & this crap should be shut down. I bet Estrella jail would flip out if they saw that she was writing letters about her appellate fund & not witnesses for her upcoming trial. This is indeed turning into a circus, & the killer is truly running the show. How sad is this? Terrible. It's her handwriting too, at first it didn't sound like she wrote it until I saw the familiar penmanship similar to the letter she wrote to Ryan Burns. Awful. I am appalled.

If JA shows up with those "Survivor" teashirts again, I am going to faint...

But after all the time and effort that went into "designing" them... it would be such a pity to keep them hidden from the world. And after all, domestic violence is a subject Jodi cares deeply about -- but as a perpetrator, not a victim. If she "designed" a "PERP" t-shirt, it would still be ridiculous, but at least it wouldn't be so offensive.

I'm guessing that in this retrial Jodi will of come out of the fog and remember everything that happened. Her version of events obviously. Not the truth. She needs to get her investigator into the bedroom, bathroom and closet to see if her new story is doable. I have no doubt in my mid that she has access to the crime scene photos and has weaved a story around them. And she would get a thrill each time she looks at "her work". She is just that evil. IMO

Geevee, is there a place I can go to read the letter on the scale of a full page size? It is so tiny and my eyes are so bad I cannot see it. I tried to blow itup butthatdidnt work. Thanks.

I couldn't read the link of the transcription MeeBee posted, maybe you could slip her a note and she could send it to you. :)

Yep, a far cry from the sweet, mild-mannered girl we saw on the witness stand, or the considerate friend she presented herself as in her other letters. When she stops pretending to be a decent human being, the persona she reveals is cold and repulsive.

No, you're right, they don't. But normal procedure doesn't seem to apply here. JSS denied JM access to their addresses , so he couldn't possibly have been in a position to subpoena them directly.

It sounds like JSS and JM agreed to have exchanges about interview arrangements between JM and the witnesses "mediated" by Wilmott and Nurmi.

Which, if so , makes Wilmott's refusal baffling and completely unethical. Seems to me like we're missing some info here.

I agree...something's missing. JW is not the type to blatantly violate a court order. She doesn't have the information, or Jodi has told her she plans to ask the court to reconsider, or...something. :)

Frankly, I think what JSS meant to order was that the defense must either produce the witness voluntarily for an interview or give the contact info to JM. I've seen orders like that before.

Regarding the first jury, didn't JSS give them incomplete jury instructions? I am not sure they even knew that another jury would have to be reseated if they couldn't agree. The foreman alluded to being confused in post trial interviews in that he thought JSS would sentence the killer. I personally wish this judge would have been more in control of the entire trial. She always disappointed me in her decisions made during the trial - the endless side bars, for instance - and continues to do so post trial. On the other hand, however, the jury could have asked for clarificationeither way about the next step. My guess is they were pretty emotionally spent as well.
IMO, CMJA will bail in representing herself, I predict, one week prior to the beginning of this phase. She is way over her head.

The jury did not know a new jury would have to be seated if they hung, at least the foreman didn't. After the fact, when he found out the state intended to go forward he expressed how unfair he thinks it is that the state gets to pursue this case to the end with a new jury.

I do not know if the jury should have known about a second jury being a possibility, or if it is even information they were entitled to know at the time they went to deliberate. Given there were jurors on both sides that refused to budge, I am not sure their knowing would have made a difference.

We have a judge who, rather than order the defendant to comply with laws requiring her to provide the state with witness contact information, orders the defendant to arrange for her witnesses to show up for an interview.

And now it seems that defendant has accidentally on purpose failed to make such arrangements, which may mean the interviews may not be doable as planned, possibly meaning further delays--and the retrial has not even started yet!

For such a serious crime and this being a death penalty case, the court's policies and procedures sure are informal.

I'm not so sure about that. It may have required a stronger foreman, but I think they would have perhaps re-examined evidence & mitigation factors a little more closely & perhaps come to some sort of consensus if they knew JSS wasn't going to make the decision for them, as they were unamimous on one verdict.

Also... I couldn't find this on the "general questions" thread, so I'll ask it here: In her interrogation with Detective Flores, Jodi mentions that she was "stranded" at one point during her road trip. Does anybody know what she meant by that? It would be pretty ironic if she ran out of gas somewhere.

She did testify that she ran out of gas, JM used that as a way to prove how much gas her tank held, I was thinking she said it was about 15 miles outside of Winnemucca but that doesn't seem right because she filled the tank as well as the gas cans when leaving SLC so would have had the gas to add to the tank. Actually there doesn't seem to be anywhere after SLC that she used the gas in the cans, as every fill up was enough to replace what was used on the previous leg until she got home.

Thanks for the info. Weird how something as mundane as gas cans should end up being so important in a murder investigation. Maybe at the moment of her death (natural or otherwise), she'll have an Orson Wells/Citizen Cain moment and softly whisper "gas cans..."

I have a bad feeling about this re-trial.

I think there's a hearing this morning? Saw something about it in a tweet from Jen's Trial Diaries.

An hour from now....YesOrNo posted into sidebar " Jen's Trial Diaries @TrialDiariesJ · 8h
I'll be at the #jodiarias hearing Tues at 9am MST. See ya then!

Morning everyone :seeya:

Looks like the weather is going to be storms here today.

missy:jail: will have her big hands in everything today.

......

Isn't Juan scheduled to interview an expert witness today?

"IT IS ORDERED setting a date
and time certain for interview by the State of Defendant’s
expert SEPTEMBER 2, 2014 at 9:00 a.m., in Arizona.
Specific location to be determined."

That's what I thought the 2nd and 3rd dates were for, JM's interviews at the courthouse, but I see this on Jen's twitter:

Jen's Trial Diaries @TrialDiariesJ · 11h

I'll be at the #jodiarias hearing Tues at 9am MST. See ya then!
----

So I'm not exactly sure what's going to happen there this morning.
