The International Skating Union, figure skating’s world governing body, has announced it will bar all Russian and Belarusian skaters from international events, a ban that would include the world championships later this month in France.

That would prevent Anna Shcherbakova, the Olympic women’s singles champion, from defending her 2021 world title.

Russia has historically dominated the figure skating domain.

⚡️Vladimir Putin signs decree to prohibiting Russians from leaving the country with more than $10,000 in foreign currency.

I agree. Not that they can protest. It would be a "Tiananmen Square" massacre scene. Or a quick trip to a gulag in Central Russia.

The best part of living in the United States, is the Freedom of Speech, and Right for Lawful Assembly.

They are protesting, however. Even with that horrible threat. Last I heard 6,000 had been arrested.

My hope is that now that the oligarch’s money is being threatened, they will try to put a stop to this. And maybe to Putin.

From banking to sports to vodka, Russia's isolation grows | AP News
In barely three days, Russia has become an international outcast because of its invasion of Ukraine, and its leader is finding himself with fewer and fewer foreign friends. What’s more, the actions against Moscow are happening in diverse, far-reaching ways that are remarkable for — and in some cases helped along by — the extremely connected world in which we live.

'Our Streets, Our Town': Unarmed Ukrainians Confront Russian Troops (Video)

In one Ukrainian town, invading Russian troops admitted over a loudspeaker that the streets belonged to local residents who refused to move out of their way. But the military column then dispersed the crowd with an unspecified gas. Across Ukraine, it was another day that saw unarmed civilians confronting heavily armed Russian soldiers.

"The town is being destroyed," one resident wrote to RFE/RL's Donbas.Realities on February 27. "Direct hits to the hospital. Houses are burning. Looters are thriving -- they steal groceries, mobile phones, appliances. Residents are in basements, completely cut off from information. There is no light, water, heat, or telephone connection."

Volnovakha, with a prewar population of about 21,000, lies in eastern Ukraine's Donetsk region, about 65 kilometers southwest of the regional capital, Donetsk, and on the front line between Ukrainian forces and the combined arms of the Moscow-backed separatists and their Russian military allies. It has been the scene of intense fighting since February 27.

"Private homes and apartment buildings, infrastructure facilities, and a hospital were severely damaged by the occupiers' shelling," the Kyiv-appointed head of the Donetsk regional administration, Pavlo Kyrylenko, told RFE/RL. "The town is blocked by the enemy," he added. "It is impossible to evacuate the population or even bring people bread and water.... I appeal to international humanitarian organizations to help the city."
