Boeing, one of the world’s largest aerospace manufacturers, has announced it is cutting ties with its Russian partners.

The US airplane maker said it would suspend all major operations in Moscow and will no longer provide technical support or maintenance, or parts, for Russian aircraft.
If Belarus troops have to also go into Ukraine, that is a HUGE embarrassment for Russia.

I don't know if you have seen the video of the meeting Belarusian President Lukashenko had with his security counsel. First he is showing a map that apparently shows the Russians next going into Moldova. But what interested me about the video is the look on the other participants in the meeting. Most are just looking at the table or off in the distance, looks on their face of "what in the hell is going on here." To call Lukashenko a puppet of Putin is really an insult to puppets everywhere.

Key port of Mariupol under siege as IMF and World Bank pledge $3bn for Ukraine – as it happened | World news | The Guardian

It is 6.30am in Ukraine. Here’s where we stand right now:
  • Russian troops have reportedly landed in Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second most populous city, according to the security service of Ukraine. Russian partatroopers reportedly landed at around 3am local time (1am GMT) and engaged in heavy fighting with Ukrainian forces.
  • Kyiv and other cities in Ukraine are coming under more bombardment in the early hours of Wednesday morning as the Russian military steps up its offensive and moves forces closer towards the capital.
  • Joe Biden’s used his State of the Union address to warn Vladimir Putin that he cannot divide the west and that dictators should “pay a price for their aggression”. He won a standing ovation for his praise of the Ukrainian resistance against what he called Russian “tyranny”.
  • Biden also announced that the US is closing American airspace to all Russian flights, “further isolating Russia”.
  • Four people have been killed after homes in the city of Zhytomyr west of Kyiv were hit by a cruise missile apparently aimed at a nearby airbase, Anton Gerashchenko, adviser to the interior minister, said on his Telegram channel.
  • The southern cities of Kherson and Mariupol are likely now encircled by the Russians, according to the UK Ministry of Defence.
  • Thousands of Ukrainians are trying to leave Kyiv, our correspondent in Kyiv reported, as Russia’s defence ministry warned residents to leave as it plans to strike targets in the Ukrainian capital. The UN says more than 680,000 people have already fled the city.
  • The IMF and the World Bank have condemned the Russian action in Ukraine and the “horrifying” suffering of people there. The organisations pledged a $3bn package of support for the country.
  • Apple has said it will pause all product sales in Russia while Boeing is suspending “major operations” in Moscow, as well as “parts, maintenance, and technical support services for Russian airlines”. Ford and the British carmaker Jaguar Land Rover have also suspended operations, along with Nike.
  • Brent crude oil has soared 5.8% to $110.09 a barrel, its highest since 2014. The Russian rouble has fallen again in early trading on Wednesday to hit 109.2 to the dollar.

War in Ukraine: Vladimir Putin's 4 unacceptable conditions for him to accept a ceasefire! (msn.com)
The first day of negotiations between Ukrainians and Russians ended in failure for the simple reason that the conditions set out by Vladimir Putin for him to accept a ceasefire are "unacceptable", according to a source at the Élysée who confided in our colleagues at Le Point.

And for good reason, the Russian head of state indicated that he had four demands before laying down his arms: "the neutrality of Ukraine, its disarmament, its renunciation of entering NATO and Ukraine's recognition of Crimea as a Russian entity". Several conditions that Ukrainian President Zelensky is not about to accept... The latter also made it known to the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron during a telephone interview held during the same day last Monday...

Governments across Southeast Asia are trying to urgently evacuate their citizens from Ukraine.
[...]

Southeast Asian governments’ response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has mostly been muted. A statement released by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations did not mention Russia by name, but called on “all relevant parties to exercise maximum restraint”.

However, Singapore made a rare announcement this week that it would impose sanctions on Russia, which it said were prompted by the “unprecedented gravity” of the situation.

Researchers gather evidence of possible Russian war crimes in Ukraine
Six days after Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine, there is mounting evidence that its military is committing war crimes with deadly attacks on civilians and the use of cluster munitions.

Eliot Higgins, the founder of the investigative journalism site Bellingcat, said there was evidence of Russia causing “civilian harm”, including through the use of “cluster bombs in civilian areas”, from credible video and stills of the conflict.
Footage of an attack on a car park in Kharkiv on Monday, described by a Bellingcat researcher as a cluster bomb strike, shows residents walking in a nearby park just as the sequence of bombs go off. The area appears to be residential.

Dashcam footage, assessed by Russia’s Conflict Intelligence Team to have been shot in Kharkiv, is thought to show a cluster bomb landing in a road last Friday.

This is the first I see of an assassination plan against Zelensky.

Oleksiy Danilov, secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council, said on Ukrainian television on Tuesday that his country received information about a planned assassination attempt on President Volodymyr Zelensky from agents of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation (FSB).

“I can say that we received information from representatives of the FSB, who today have no desire to take part in this bloody war,” said Danilov, who claimed that the Chechen special forces sent to kill Zelensky had been “eliminated.”

“The Kadyrovites’ elite group, which came here specifically to eliminate our president, was directly destroyed,” he said. Kadyrovites refers to a Chechen paramilitary group accused of a number of human-rights violations and abuses. They serve at the pleasure of Razman Kadyrov, the head of the Chechen Republic and a close ally of Vladimir Putin.

A nice summary of what's been reported about Putin's palace, with lots of links for pursuing the story further:
Putin's Palace - Wikipedia
Wow just wow
The latter part of that article is so apt that he could have written it about what is happening in Ukraine right now. He , Kolesnikov, the whistle blower, is absolutely bang on when speaking about what’s behind his decision to reveal the information about where the money is being obtained to pay for Putins Palace with Putins orders and his generals complicity and the economic damage fallout from that along with all the nuclear weapons. Very interesting read - thank you. I always believed that corruption was rife there and with their Leaders knowledge from all my readings about Russia but the way that this was operated in order to secure funds to build his palace is another level! Wow !!!!

I agree. Not that they can protest. It would be a "Tiananmen Square" massacre scene. Or a quick trip to a gulag in Central Russia.

The best part of living in the United States, is the Freedom of Speech, and Right for Lawful Assembly.
Well somebody posted yesterday that it was suggested to go onto Google maps and put in Russia and it will come up with places to visit and eat etc and give you the option to post reviews but instead of posting a review of the food on say a restaurant site, to instead post about what’s happening in Ukraine and what the Russian people are not being told about their sons husbands brothers etc being deployed to war in Ukraine. So I wrote a long document and translated it to Russian and posted it. This way , even if the Russian people are not allowed to protest or have a voice, or don’t even know what is truly taking place because of the media blackout, then at least they can read the reviews on food and sightseeing site’s and pass the information on to their families and friends and hopefully if enough are incensed, they will take the chance to make a stand by safety in huge numbers.

Out of every desperate, sad and despicable act taking place in the Ukraine right now, in order to survive mentally as well as physically, we must try to look long and hard for the positives that come from this tragic situation and Putins illegal actions.
And I’m so proud to see that the Ukraine people are doing their best to be positive and that fighting spirit - oh boy ! They are amazing. But what is also warming my heart and showing positive in all of this desperation is how a large swathe of the world has come together to roar up against the evil atrocities perpetrated by Putins people and the cohesion of all of the people of these countries, countries incidentally which I would never have expected to side with Ukraine, yet they have and collectively we have all come together and are helping Ukraine to fight off their attackers but not by us sending troops in, but by more hi tech means with the sanctions and collapsing their economy and future livelihood and reducing the oligarchs investments to a tenth of what they were as the rouble collapsed, and the big corporations pulling out of Russia- BP, Exxon, Shell, Boeing, Apple and on it goes , restricting their every day existence. Sadly it will also affect many Russian people who are not in favour of the war but what can be done. It’s up to Putin now . But I’m so proud of the innovative ways that are being implemented to try and stop Putin instead of putting thousands of soldiers on the ground to be killed. We are working in a much smarter way, collectively alongside Ukraines troops on the ground and it’s wonderful to see this coming from such a dire situation.
