I have corrected this several times in several threads
The status indicator on this particular report has nothing to do with the active investigation that is currently going on
This is only considered what most call the cover page.
This particular report is the actual report that was taken on scene at the time of her report of her being missing.
Nothing further.
Even though it is four pages long you do not see all the added supplements or revised or additional information added to the case nor is that information available to the public.
Not to mention if additional calls are received in relation to this case sometimes new case numbers are generated and in the end if the case has been solved All case numbers can be connected to the main case number.
As one who conducts audits and has on occasion provided accounting assistance to LE, I find the few short paragraphs to be surprisingly brief. NOT that there is anything wrong with that.
As an auditor, if I conducted 2 or 3 interviews they would be much more detailed than what we have here. But our work can be subpoenaed and made part of discovery. Some states don't consider police reports as part of discovery - i.e., what the prosecution is required to provide to the defense - and I don't know SC laws. Also, there might further detail in underlying reports/documents in the case file that is not available to the public which explains or expands on the statements in this initial report.
I'm sure there are more details relating to the interviews, what was found in the car, etc., covered in more detail in the follow-on reports/documents.
All of this affects what a LE official will put in their initial report and why it may not have everything or appear confusing. IOW, I don't place too much weight on the report for being what may appear to be 'contradictory' or 'confusing'.
Not trying to contradict what CC880 has said as they know more about LE procedure than me, just offering what I have seen from a different view.
