Though John Mayer is allegedly a jerk to his girlfriends, no one has ever accused him of anything bad... but just in case, he dedicated this album to ALV:

Hey everyone I wanted to stop in and give you all a heads up to an amazing documentary called Girl Rising that will air Sunday June 16th at 9:00pm on CNN.

My daughter and I are attending a screening tonight (that people had to spend $10 a ticket to see), so this is an incredible opportunity for people to see this film for free.

Unfortunately it is Father's Day but if you aren't around please consider setting your DVR's- you won't be disappointed!

You can see the trailer here:

God Bless these efforts.

I LOVE Donovan! I was all of eight years old when this song came out, but I remember it fondly. It was one of my favorites. Here's one for you...

Donovan ~ Mellow Yellow - YouTube

Gotta love 60's music. It was so innocent! The stuff my kids listen to now hurts my ears, and it's endless ANGST and violence. Yuck. If I want pain I'll watch Honey Boo Boo, now THAT's painful. :giggle:

I was too young for Woodstock, but I'm a huge fan of the music back then.

Not a nun yet- only in the beginning state right now. The order is still discerning if I (and God) is calling me to this religious life. I am 63 yrs old and still have my younger son with me- he's leaving in the Spring. I'll have to get rid of all my worldly goods (and smoking), but I have been thinking of this for years now. The worldly goods don't bother me- it's just stuff. I really want to make some kind of difference in the time I have left in this world. My family has had a hard time about this decision of mine, but I really want it. I won't be giving them up, just adding more meaningful things to my life (you never lose your family). It's harder for an older woman to enter a convent- they really would like younger woman. It's been a hard climb.
Here's the order, if you're interested:

Just because you are a nun doesn't mean you can't remember what it is to be a woman, you know.
I didn't want to say anything before because I didn't want anyone to think they had to be "different" with me.
And I don't believe in the DP, unfortunatly.

Congratulations on pursuing your dreams.

Can I ask a question. If you dont want to answer, that is fine because you dont owe any answers to anyone of course.

I've just always wondered how Nuns and even Buddhist Monks can help the non-believers and other people with their salvation when they have to live in a covenant or church type setting where they dont get out much. Forgive me if I have it all wrong, but my impression has always been that Nuns are kind of stuck in a certain setting where they dont get to get out much. So i have always wondered how they can make a difference for other people who could truly use their help in talking about the "word" and their salvation.

Again, please dont answer if you dont want to. I have always just been real curious about this and was always too scared to ask anyone who is close to that group.

By the way, I consider myself "saved" and I am so glad the gift of the Holy Spirit has entered my life. I commend you for your current goal even if you find you may choose otherwise. It is great to hear from someone thinking about making such a choice with their lives.

Rock your baby....

Thanks for posting that. It would be nice if instead of just giving us a glimpse as to what a couple of the questions were that AZCentral would just go ahead and post them all.

I specifically recall the *advertiser censored* question.., it was asked!

It's so sad about these woman in jail on NG. What a waste of life for them.

YESorNO, you're right - such a waste! I am cheering you on in your dreams, you are such a great lady.

Here's something for you that has all the elements you enjoy - long-haired rockers and flat, bare chests...

As the resident atheist here... I want to say good for you!
If this is something you've wanted to do and have been considering for a long time, you should do it.
May I ask why it's harder for an older person to enter the convent?

I thought I believed in the death penalty until very recently, I don't think *I* could sentence someone to death.... I'd rather someone else make that decision. So... After much consideration I don't feel "right" about the DP anymore.

I won't treat you any differently;)

Just checked out the link... I like the habits, everyone looks good and thinner in all black;)

Linda,
It normally takes about 10 yrs to become a full-fledged nun. You start off as a novice. I might not last that long- :floorlaugh:, but since there haven't been a lot of woman who want to be nuns nowadays, they are accepting older woman- not all religious orders accept older woman, tho'.
That's another hurtle with this order, but they are around the "corner" from me and I'm working on them- just as they are "working" on me.

I'm not looking forward to the nun habit- I hate the heat- too much clothes!!!! Good color tho'. :floorlaugh:
But, it's OK.

I thought I was an atheist for a long time (in the middle of my life)- imagine that, a nun who didn't believe in God!!! But, not really- just testing and I think even a nun can have some doubts. Even Mother Teresa had doubts her whole life.

Ten years? Wow!
Is that because there is so much to learn or they want you to be super positive ?
