I just did. So tragic, sounds like he went head first into the tree. Probably didn't brake and wasn't wearing a helmet. When I went, it was very safe.

I feel so sorry for the Flores': this is just awful. But I'm angry, too: it is horrible to me that the camp didn't disassemble the zipline device or lock it so that it couldn't be used without supervision. The harnesses, carabiners, and everything must have been right there. And there was no locked contraption around the people carrier? The access ladders? This is just so all wrong.

On another topic entirely, I would guess JA has to take off her mufti clothes and hand them over the moment she leaves the courtroom and goes to her court cell, since in the interviews 10 minutes after her guilty verdict she is already in stripes and chains. But I wonder if she has to hand over the glasses as well because they're considered "court attire" and not jail issue? IIRC, she did not wear them in those interviews. And, surely, if they were jail attire, she would not have been able to auction them off?

Ziggy, one of our WS'ers, who was in Court on Monday, January 26, 2015, has written an excellent summary post, very worthy of reading, with her insights and observations on just about everything one might wonder about: jurors, juan martinez, sandy arias, juror questions, juror# 13, etc. . It is on the other thread Day 26, Part 2, page 3 and post# 417 (if you are using the 200 per posts). I hope they bring it forward when they open the new thread Day 27 this morning. (JMO)

The US Holocaust Memorial Museum opened in April, 1993 in Wash, DC. My older son and I visited the Holocaust Museum when it first opened that summer in 1993 and, believe me, it was an education in what evil really is. The college in Pa. was selling tickets and we decided to go with them instead of driving. It was very crowded that day we went and we only were there for about 4 hours- not enough time to really see everything, IMO.

If you ever have an opportunity to visit, go, if you are so inclined. We were humbled/sad (and in the presence of so much evil) to what people can do to others, to what the survivors went through, and we were outraged. If you can't do that, visit the website:

Only guard yourself and guard your soul carefully, lest you forget the things your eyes saw, and lest these things depart your heart all the days of your life, and you shall make them known to your children, and to your children’s children.

When I lived in the Bronx, I knew an old woman that worked in a bakery, who had numbers tattooed on her arm because she was in a concentration camp- her name was Shoshannah, which is "lily" in Hebrew, but she was called Shani. She was the kindest person; she just loved my younger son, who was about 7-8 years old at the time, and always gave him a cookie whenever we stopped by the bakery to buy something. I always remember her when I go to chapel and light a candle for her. My son remembers her, too. :)

Last witnesses of the Holocaust

"For more than 20 years, Harry Bibring has been telling his story to thousands of pupils. He's been a living witness....

"There is something about hearing a story first-hand that gives it more meaning," she says.
"It will be a massive loss when we don't have anyone to come in."...

...there is something inescapably poignant about this dignified man telling his story, looking into the eyes of someone whose eyes saw such persecution in the dark heart of the 20th Century.
"These are my memories," he says.

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—
because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

We who did not go their way owe them this. We must make sure that their deaths have posthumous meaning. We must make sure that from now until the end of days all humankind stares this evil in the face...and only then can we be sure it will never arise again.

Germany marks Buchenwald 'shame'

"...German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder has led a commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the liberation of the Nazis' Buchenwald death camp.
He urged the world never to forget the horrors perpetrated by the Nazis....
The US commander was so horrified by what he found in Buchenwald that he forced the residents of nearby Weimar to visit and see what had been done in their name.
Mr Schroeder said: "We cannot change history, but this country can learn a lot from the deepest shame of our history." ."

Good Morning. Was pleasant surprised when I woke up and we weren't blocked in by a few feet of snow. We dodged the bullet with only maybe 6-8 inches, if that. Can't really tell because the wind blew it around. I am not going to complain. The Eastern part of the state got slammed.
No plows up here yet and it is still snowing a fine, light snow with a little more to come throughout the day. Staying home.
The governor just lifted the travel ban for our county and one other. All other counties it is still in effect.

That reallybigmeandog is so funny. I was laughing so hard I had to read to DH. He said it was hysterical:applause:

I know this may be off topic, but I have a question maybe someone can answer? I just read Jodi's letter to Travis' family on Beth K's site. Oh my Lord! I know that Juan read excerpts from this letter. Does that mean the whole thing was admitted into evidence? Will the jury have an opportunity to read the entire thing? It is something else. TIA.

Thanks! Very good summary, and a description of jurors, spectators. Good info here. Ziggy did a great job with her day in court.

From Ziggy's comments, did anyone else catch this yesterday? I didn't . That should shoot the DT's claim of prosecutorial misconduct!
"Somehow everyone knows who "Witness 1" is anyway. Even Geff called him by name twice by accident."

What was Ziggy tweeting under? Was it "Shh I'm a juror"?

I haven't been able to check much into websleuths during the retrial. I keel hoping to catch up!! Please forgive if this has been posted, and I imagine it has, about Estaban Flores' son being killed in the zip lining accident this weekend. I was really heartbroken for "our" detective and everyone personally touched by the tragedy.
