I think there must have been a design update or something.

This is what I see on the main OP trial thread.

De Kock confirmed that Tongo, who had been pre-booked by Shrien's personal assistant,[38] had driven the couple from Cape Town International Airport to the Cape Grace hotel on Friday, 12 November. After their arrival, Tongo alleged that he and Shrien had a conversation in the hotel lobby:

According to Tongo, the killing was planned and carried out within 24 hours of the Dewanis arriving at Cape Town airport after four days on safari. Tongo, a limousine driver who offered himself for private hire, had been booked by Mr Dewani’s secretary to take the couple to the luxury Cape Race hotel.

The following is a complete contradiction to the above.

On December 7, 2010, Cape Town taxi driver Zola Tongo issued a full statement as part of a plea bargain with the State.

"I am in formal employment but I also freelance as a shuttle operator at the Cape Town International Airport.

For this latter purpose I make use of my private motor vehicle …, a silver grey Volkswagen Sharan.

I was waiting for fares at the Airport when approached by Shrien Dewani, who requested me to convey him and his wife … to the Cape Grace Hotel”

If SD's personal assistant had made a pre-arranged booking with Tongo, he would have been waiting in the arrivals area at the airport, holding up a sign with Dewani's name on it. This is standard practice. Why did he say he was waiting for fares if he was expecting Dewani? The fact that Tongo says he freelances and uses his own private vehicle suggests to me that he's not even licenced. How did the personal assistant know how to contact him? Lies from the Dewani camp.

#DEWANI MURDER: Judgment text in the trial of Mngeni

Shrien Dewani's lawyer has already used affidavits and statements from the trial of Mngeni.

However, he cannot be selective in what he chooses to use. Van Zyl cannot have it both ways....

If he wants to rely on documents from that trial of Mngeni, then he must also accept the finding of the trial court - which was that Anni was murdered as a result of a "contract killing".

He should also be required to explain his clients relationship with "Mr Edmondo" who funded the defence case at that trial, and why his client Dewani failed to assist police and prosecution in any way whatsoever to convict the man who shot Anni dead and who caused Dewani's alleged PTSD for 4 years.

Dewani claims he loved Anni - yet he did nothing whatsoever to help convict her killer!

Professor MA Simpson is a South African psychiatrist. He qualified in medicine and in psychiatry in Britain. He has been a senior academic, researcher, and Professor in several countries.

His legal team “tried … to explain away any otherwise suspicious contradictions or gaps in his version of events, by insisting that the PTSD … is causing him memory problems.

… he seems to have forgotten is that a recent lengthy period of observation did not find him to be suffering from PTSD.

Further, PTSD does not, typically, interfere with memory in the manner they’re suggesting. Quite the opposite, in fact. People with genuine PTSD have very clear memories, and are often painfully aware of the ugly details of their trauma.

There really are a lot of the usual WS folks MIA for this trial.

Is that because it's not being televised?

Also, are there ever trials where just audio allowed?

I started with the intention of reading the tweets but it means I can do not much else and what I find frustrating is that many of the tweeters do not include the questions asked of the witnesses. With OP I used Bluetooth headphones and I could get on with my chores at least for part of the day and still listen to the trial. I am finding this all a bit disjointed and am rapidly losing interest.

EDIT I should have pointed out I didn't mean our members who are tweeting to help us but the journalists who are tweeting from the courts.

A parliamentary aide who claims to have had gay sex with honeymoon murder suspect Shrien Dewani is expected to give evidence at his trial.

The aide, who lives in London, is understood to have come forward after Dewani’s then spokesman, Max Clifford, denied that he was gay in the weeks after the murder.

I wonder if the Defence has found a woman who has ever had intimate relations with Dewani?

It shouldn't be hard, seeing as Dewani used the word 'relationships' in his statement. What I find odd is that his computer didn't show any evidence of visiting bisexual websites, only gay ones. Why would that be, I wonder, unless he wasn't bisexual at all, but needed to say that in order to 'prove' he was attracted to Anni. Didn't he also initially deny rumours he was gay at all? I can understand that if he was trying to spare his family, but the truth is out now, so the defence should be able to provide previous females he was allegedly in relationships with.

The above quote was in reply to Estelle post no 804 - sorry but I can't work the multi quote for some reason.

Dewani describes meeting Tongo by chance at the airport as stated in his Plea Explanation http://www.pod702.co.za/Eyewitnessnews/docs/141006Dewaniexp.pdf

He explains this at para 38.

Three different accounts have so far been given of how Dewani met the taxi driver Tongo which has made me suspicious that someone Dewani knew had contacts in South Africa who could have known Tongo.

VERSION ONE: Telegraph, 7 Dec 2010 said
“Tongo, a limousine driver who offered himself for private hire, had been booked by Mr Dewani’s secretary to take the couple to the luxury Cape Race hotel.”

VERSION TWO: Dewani’s own family in The Independent newspaper 19 Dec 2010:
Question from journalist: “Did he pre-book the taxi before to be sure that they were picked up by the alleged conspirators?

Family’s answer: “Definitely not. He considered pre-booking the Cape Grace Hotel car. Instead he picked up a taxi at the airport. Zola Robert Tongo was chosen because he drove a Mercedes.”

Its a fact that Tongo drove a VW Sharan, as shown on CCTV when he first arrived with the couple at the Cape Grace Hotel. He didnt have a Mercedes.

VERSION THREE: On 20 Dec 2010 Dewani’s family then claimed Bristol Post newspaper:
“They chose Tongo because he spoke fluent English and his car was in good condition.”

Incredibly, Panorama have gone so far as to alter the audio tape of Shrien’s interview to conform with that claim. If you want proof that the audio has been doctored, listen for the two distinctive “knock” sounds in the background, just before Dewani says the word “secure” – listen to the original and altered versions at Example #1 HERE

So just on the small question of how did Dewani meet Tongo, 3 different answers have been provided by the Dewani family.

Why has the “gift” turned into a “trip” after three years on Panorama?

In November 2011, they claimed the money Dewani texted Tongo about was for Tongo to buy a “surprise gift” for Anni. The “gift” has suddenly turned into a “trip” and there is no mention of tour guide fees.

Why didn’t Panorama itself investigate who the helicopter company was?

The helicopter trip has no company name, no pilot name, no business address, no telephone number, no website, no contact person, no email, no booking confirmation, no booking time, no boarding location; absolutely nothing whatsoever to corroborate this newly introduced claim by Jeremy Vine that there was to be a “romantic helicopter trip” booking surprise for Anni.

The South African prosecution have proof that Dewani had at least 21,000 Rand from exchanging currency. There are ATM records, money bureau records, confessions from the gunmen admitting to receiving 15,000 Rand, CCTV of a clandestine exchange of a white plastic bag, and an eyewitness account confirming that the gunmen retrieved an envelope from the rear of the taxi before running away.

http://panoramabusted.wordpress.com/the-dossier/

City Press also tracked down a young woman who says she saw two men fleeing the scene of the crime after they abandoned the “hijacked” taxi in Litha Park, Khayelitsha, at about 1am on December 14, with Anni Dewani’s body inside.

The woman, who asked not to be named as she lives in the same area as the two men charged with the murder and fears for her safety, said she had been mugged and robbed of her mobile phone earlier that evening and was trying to trace the thieves with the help of two friends.

She noticed the taxi pull up and stop, and then the door opened and two men got out and ran away – but one then turned and got back into the vehicle, according to the alleged eye witness.

“He jumped in and then came out holding an envelope and they both ran down the road,” she said.”
