The security issue is not trivial, IMO.

How did the helmeted man enter the building to spray paint the interior camera?

Why was there no extra key from the landlord/building security for police to enter the apartment through the door?

Was her key missing from her apartment, along with her phone?

If she was kidnapped from her apartment, how did her assailant get in? Did they have a key, or did she let them in? What would have been involved in locking the door behind them?

JMO
Agree. Though I'm yet to hear someone say there were *actual cameras* in the building. Happy to be proved wrong but I'm going off what is typical in Madrid apartment blocks here. I'm assuming there are zero, either inside or outside. (The police will be using CCTV from KFC next door, the street etc). I think what's happened is that the intercom, which has a camera for you to see who is buzzing you, has been sprayed. This has no recording function. I doubt it's like RING or some such. Assuming the helmet man who sprayed this is involved, the only advantage would be that when you buzz her door, she cannot see you in those few seconds it pops on. So, then. (Why not simply cover it with your hand?) This could be done fairly subtly too, if you were to lean forward casually or something. However, it's possible whoever did this assumed this video DID record and sprayed it out of caution.

This intercom is outside on the main door accessible to anyone in the street. RE: her keys missing or not. I don't think this is known yet to anyone except the police. I would assume if someone did kidnap her, they either buzzed downstairs or waited for someone to exit and they slipped in. The door, leading out to the street, would almost certainly lock automatically. Quite possible her front door does too. (Ditto are true for mine here).

I saw the brother use the word “nasty” re: the divorce…
I wonder if this is why Ana ultimately relocated to Spain. Obviously it's also possible that it's just somewhere she wanted to move to, but it's not like she waited for the divorce to be finalized. At the same time, I know divorces can take years, especially if complicated by assets and such. Do we know when official proceedings started?

(NewsNation) — The absence of David Knezevich’s involvement in the search for his estranged wife Ana Maria Knezevich has raised eyebrows, with some questioning why he has not traveled to Spain to assist authorities in the effort.

David’s attorney Ken Padowitz says his client “has not been absent” from the investigation to find Ana. David has been living in Serbia since their separation from Ana.

“He’s spoken to the police a number of times,” Padowitz said during a Monday appearance on “CUOMO.” “I have reached out to the FBI and let them know that we are available to aid in any way. He’s given police information on credit cards, attempted to hire a lawyer in Spain.”

I really don't care for this tabloid fear and suspicion mongering: what's he going to do in Madrid, wander the streets calling her name? Also, most people in the US know by now, if your spouse is missing, absolutely do not talk to police until you get a lawyer. Even The Prosecutors (podcast) insist on this, and they are real prosecutors.

I wish the media would give us actual evidence, instead of this easy steaming cowpat of baseless suspicion and bad vibes.

My understanding from David's attorney is that divorce proceedings had not yet started. Unofficially, and without lawyers, he said that the couple were working together to sell off many of their properties in preparation for their divorce.

The attorney's interview on News Nation last night (posted earlier):

Maybe i'm being unreasonable but Cuomo seemed very gentle with this guy? "They got on so well, they don't even need two separate lawyers."

Cool, why did a request for interview from news media prompt your client to hire a criminal defence attorney? Why is it unreasonable to expect of your client to make a single plane journey of a few hours to a nation where your ex-wife may have come to harm or been murdered? Why did you take the position that it's not productive for your client to speak to the press if he is indeed innocent of any crime? Has your client ever been to Spain? Has he left Serbia recently? Does he own multiple passports? Etc etc

1.) Ana's Brother tells Fort Lauderdale, Florida police that David Knezevic had traveled to Serbia on Jan. 17

2.) Jan. 25, David reported a theft to Fort Lauderdale police.

Someone had stolen close to $6,000 worth of motorcycle gear, bags, accessories, electronics and cash from his Mercedez-Benz.

He met with police that day and said he wanted to press charges."

3.) David's lawyer, a former Homicide Prosecutor, states David has been living in Serbia since the start of the divorce

4.) Feb. 6th - Henao calls and texts David , asking where his sister was, he said David Knezevic replied to him on What’sApp about 6 p.m. on Feb. 6, as if he was still out of the country, saying she was missing and nothing more.

5.) David tells Sanna he is in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on February 7th.

6.) David tells Sanna he is in Serbia on February 9th.

You're right about the lawyer, of course. But respectfully, I think the bad vibes are with Ana's family at this time.

What's he going to do in Serbia? Look for her there?

Ana's friend went to Spain and is THE ONLY REASON how they found out about the motorcycle person spray painting the cameras. Without her, there'd be nothing.

He didn't hire any old lawyer. He hired " a former Homicide Prosecutor who tried over 35-First Degree Murder Trials."

How does David know this is a murder case?

I don't think Cuomo wanted to ruin the chance of the lawyer - i mean former Homicide Prosecutor with over 35 First Degree murder trials - coming on the show again in the future.

How does David know this is a murder case?

The attorney said that DK contacted him because of all the media trying to reach him and get him to do an interview and the narrative that was circulating widely that somehow he, himself, was involved in Ana's disappearance and possible murder. Also the authorities, including FBI were potentially involved and could be (or were) reaching out to him for interviews, etc.

If you can afford it, I think it would be natural to reach out to an extremely experienced attorney, especially if he or she lived in your community. That would be a natural reaction, I would think. Again, if financially this wasn't an issue. A criminal lawyer with lots of experience and credentials would be an obvious choice. I'm not suspicious because of that.

If the FBI is asking him if he murdered his wife, or is going to ask him, as reported in the media, then he needs experienced representation. This is an international matter, with LE from various countries and jurisdictions wanting to talk to hm about his wife's disappearance. Lawyering up with an experienced attorney who lives in your community is a pretty good choice, IMO.

Thanks for your reply.

The one thing the spray painting did was leave a big clue that this was a targetted and carefully planned abduction, and she was, apparently, targetted in her apartment.that night - otherwise, the spray paint may have been cleaned off the next day.

From other cases, it seems to me very rare that a stranger plans to abduct a woman from inside her apartment. She is much more likely to be abducted as she leaves or arrives, by someone patiently lying in wait in a nearby vehicle. Eg Jodi Huesentruit, the first attempt on Elnaz Hajtamiri, many, many numerous others.

That person watches for a long time, to discover her routine and where she could most easily be snatched. But perhaps Ana's routine and her location made that seem impossible.

Also odd that, after the spray painting, she arrived back at the apartment, without any problems. Surely helmetman was lurking around and saw this. He would have to wait for a timely opportunity to sneak into the building much later, perhaps as the first early bird went out to work, when the streets were deserted?

Many defense attorneys in the U.S. are former prosecutors, so this isn't unusual. They leave public service and go into private practice, it's very common.

But they were still friends according to the lawyer. They even spoke on the day she went missing.
They were still married, just separated. According to his lawyer "they grew apart" and according to her friend they tried to work it out unsuccessfully. Reportedly Ana got depressed due to the situation. Still not enough for the husband to stop caring.
