SURPRISE HEARING Friday 18th August

DNA Solves

It's shocking how little you know about the case.

"Eight months after his original confession, on February 17, 1994, Misskelley made another statement to police with his lawyer Dan Stidham in the room continually advising Misskelley not to say anything. Misskelley ignored this advice continually and went on to detail how Damien and Jason abused and murdered the boys, while he watched until he decided to leave."

So much for a single confession and immediate recantation.

Source? And would this source also point out when the other defendants confessed? Not that a confession really means much to me, honestly. Especially when taken from a 16 year old with an IQ of 72 after hours and hours of questioning and coaching and the possible promise of a reward for information.

ETA: "One quarter of the 261 people who have been exonerated by DNA testing had falsely confessed to crimes they didn't commit, and 19 of them pleaded guilty, according to the New York-based Innocence Project."

happens all the time...

Cool. Just like OJ. Gonna find the REAL killers. :innocent:

I bet he'll be too busy doing media tours and going to Disneyland and being wined and dined....until the media and the celebrities find a new "cause".

I guess we shall see...

ETA: I think that anyone looking at this can agree that this is A LOT different than OJ.

Go show it to the police officer one of the defendants willingly confessed to AFTER being convicted.

I have never heard that before. The only confession I know of happened before the kids went to trial and the confession had a lot of misinformation in it. In Rochester recently a man who confessed to a crime was released after the real killer confessed and the police were able to find enough evidence to prove him innocent. Confessions are almost worthless.

Do you have a link for the confession after being convicted?

How many times does it happen 8 months after their initial confession, with their defense attorney present begging them not to tell what happened?

Only 1 of the 3 that walked today has any conscience. He exhibited it many times in the past, but since then plenty of attorneys have gotten their hooks in him.

I have not ever heard it, nor seen it in MSM or anywhere else except credited to Wikipedia. And while it may be correct....

Wasn't there a guy who confessed to a bunch of murders, (he was a serial killer and was found guilty of a few), but he also confessed to some other more "sensational" or Media Worthy murders and he was no where near the crimes? Grr now this is going to bug me!!:banghead:

I think the boys/men were totally innocent. I was just pointing this out as someone who was confessing even though they didn't do it...

Again, I ask for a source, please...

And if you don't believe that false confessions happen all the time, I could compile a list, if you would like.

I'm really happy they're free now. Hate the circumstances surrounding it for them to be free though. Kind of strange, but they are free.

Henry Lee Lucas. The only person, to my knowledge that George W. Bush ever took off of death row is one example.

ETA: I think it was determined in his case that he actually only killed his mom. Not that the word "only" should be used there, but I think he confessed to tons of high profile unsolved crimes.

At least he's alive....18 years for 3 murders is a deal any killer would take! I don't blame any of them for taking that sweetheart deal!

18 years for a crime they didn't commit- years on death row for something he didn't do.. not a "sweetheart" deal by any stretch of the imagination-

There is so much more evidence pointing to wrongful conviction than was ever provided to find them guilty.

Jessie first claimed the boys skipped school and were killed at 9am- not only was he wrong about them not being in school but he changed the time no less than three different times. He had the manor of death wrong and what they were bound with wrong- that alone screams false confession.

No one is celebrating the release of three murderers- far from it- and in fact those are the very people who are determined to find the truth not settle of an easy closure of a hard and politically charged case.

Isn't it strange that these 3 men have spent 18 years locked up for something that IMO they didn't do but Casey Anthony walks free to murder again when she get a wild hair?

These men are going to have such a rough time adjusting to the way life is today. Damian said he is used to being alone, I bet it will be hard for him to be around crowds. I think about the simple things we take for granted like sleeping in a comfortable bed, will they have trouble sleeping in a comfortable bed? I'm sure they are so used to loud noises, will they have trouble adjusting to peace and quit? The simple act of eating whatever we want when we want, will they be blown away by that? What about using the bathroom in privacy? I just cannot imagine what this first year will be like for them. I don't want to just focus on Damian alone just because he was on death row, because I think all 3 of them have lived in an unexplainable hell. (graphic >>>>) I don't think Damian had to worry so much about being raped as much as the other 2 men if at all, KWIM?

I hope the 3 men will persue the truth of what happened to those 3 little boys. I personally believe that it was Stevie's stepdad and his friend. How sad for all 6 of them, young lives destroyed to satisfy a grown mans selfish wants.

I'm hoping that with all of the support they are recieving that they will adjust to life a we know it. I wish them well.

Actually, that's true (except for finding the REAL killers part) OJ was not convicted by a jury in his criminal trial. These 3 were.

I think it is hard to say that they won't try to get the real killers convicted just yet, considering they have been out less than 10 hours.

:floorlaugh:
While just preparing my final report for my Fraud Accounting class (for my Masters) my professor strongly emphasized that Wikipedia is NOT a valid source for ANY citations or information and then went on to say he wouldn't suggest it, period.
Just lettin' u know it's not a credible source IMHO and it can not be trusted especially for info on such a heated subject such as the WMIII

If anything, I would think that this would clearly show that sometimes the jury doesn't get it right. I hope more than anything that they do find the real killers and wonder what some would say if that were to happen. It works both ways...

I believe that Jesse Misskelly falsely confessed to these crimes because he was scared, he was tired, and he was confused.

His IQ was tested to be in the high 70's to low 80's, which granted him only child-like reasoning skills. I can understand how he would be overwhelmed by police interrogations.

He may have believed that going along with the detectives assertions that he and his friends had committed the murders was the fastest way for him to go home.
