Yeah everyone talks like Columbo around here. lol I think they mean cops.

That's what they are around here. I wondered if they meant patches. ;)
How much would that suck if you were doing life and the guys at the top were badges.

"Just one more thing ..." ;)

Are there any indications whatsoever that LE could be involved? Chop shop, drugs, possible organized crime have at least been discussed, but so far I haven't seen any indication of potential involvement by LE. Not saying it's impossible in the long run, but has anyone seen anything along those lines.

ditto Alethea......I was hopeful they meant ''patches'' too:truce:

Mr. Smich’s rap sheet includes possession of cocaine and magic mushrooms, failure to appear in court, breach of a mandated curfew and driving while impaired. In the fall of 2012, he and another man were chased by police after allegedly spray-painting a highway overpass, authorities said at the time.

So if DM was supplying LB with cocaine, he might have got it from MS. Connection!

Just a thought, but MS was charged with possession, not trafficking. If DM was supplying LB, it is also possible he was supplying MS.

Well possession and trafficking is a slippery slope, you can have a large amount of drugs on you and still get only a possession charge if you argue that you have a bad habit and it is for personal use. It is much harder to prove trafficking than possession, which is why MS may have ended up with that charge when he might have been eligible for trafficking instead.

Anyway, all we know is MS has a coke connection, we don't know where he was getting it from and why. But it sure is interesting!

This was actually originally reported as trafficking, but most of the MSM seems to have corrected it to possession.

Smich has a criminal record that includes drug trafficking and drunk driving.

When a full TRU/SWAT tactical team has to fight or "scuffle" with a suspect on a take down, something is seriously lacking in their training and execution.

A high risk take down is all about quick neutralization of any and all ability to resist. Any thing less is cause for concern.

However I don't believe that MS was injured in jail, he would likely have been isolated from the general population.

JMO
Just wondering why you would think that?

Hmm sounds like something I've heard before...

What other parallels? Drugs, lack of employment, interest in cars?... MOO

Beyond posting a defence on the video’s YouTube page, the producer, who identified himself as James Crockett, said in an e-mail that Mr. Smich is “the type of guy who stayed home to take care of his sick mother and dogs.” And Toronto model Aly Stewart, who appears to be friends with both Mr. Smich and Mr. Crockett, wrote on Twitter: “Its all love SAY10. 25bid, we’ll still be here for you. I can’t believe this sh-t. I love u man.” (25bid is street slang for a life prison sentence.)

Rafferty told her he was taking care of his mom, that she was sick. He lived with her. McClintic never went to his home.

I don't remember noticing this in the article before. I wonder what the other two previous convictions are.

Smich, who appeared to have a black eye and a scrape on his cheek, has been in trouble with the law before.

He has five previous convictions, including two for drug possession and one for impaired, and has an outstanding mischief under $5,000 charge for graffiti on an overpass that was supposed to be back in Milton court June 3.

I don't remember the exact Canadian term but it was something like failure to comply.

ETA here it is ......He was convicted of drug possession in 2005 and 2006, for failing to comply twice in 2006 and impaired driving in 2009. http://globalnews.ca/news/585372/who-is-mark-smich/

Could be something as simple as a couple of breaches.... they would include that on the list. Don't know for sure though. Just the fact that they weren't itemized on the list suggests to me something lesser. JMO

"Breach of undertaking or recognizance"

Yes this is from that recent Globe article that promised "chilling new details":

In the fall of 2012, he and another man were chased by police after allegedly spray-painting a highway overpass, authorities said at the time.

Ooops. Home and taking care of Mom with a little "coke" on the side...

I don't disagree with you but just want to point out that DM was also in leg irons.

"Wearing leg irons and looking haggard, Millard appeared in court briefly Wednesday morning to have a new charge of first-degree murder officially read into the record."

http://www.thespec.com/news-story/2876818-clairmont-millard-claiming-innocence-yet-staying-mum/

Odd, this one says DM was "unshackled".

Millard, who was unshackled in court, was ordered held in custody for his next court appearance, and a publication ban was ordered on evidence presented at Wednesday’s hearing.

Maybe they took his leg irons off while in the courtroom.

I specifically recall Spec reporter's live tweets from courtroom. When it was over and DM walked out she wrote he was in leg shackles. Susan Clairmont tweets.

Re: shackles...Sometimes depends on the guard at a jail/courthouse.... some like to be more 'in control' than others JMO

Shackles are indicative of "risk" for escape and are generally attached to the severity of the crime.

Possibly.... but not always. I have seen someone in shackles and in court for a very pathetic reason.
