Okay so assuming he is guilty (bear with me here), he doesn't seem to be laying the groundwork for a suicide but rather a woman grabbed off the street and attacked at random. He is saying there was no fight, all was calm last night, he can't think of a reason why she would have disappeared.i think the mention of depression and him being so forthcoming with details of the affair is to give the illusion of transparency.

Good points - yes, definite emphasis on the "just vanished" story

Under cross examination Dr Stark agrees there are serious limitations to forensic examination using only photographs @NewsTalk4BC #badenclay

Francene Norton ‏@francenenorton 36s

Dr Stark being cross examined. Agrees she cannot say 100% the injuries were caused by fingernails. #badenclay @abcnews

David Murray ‏@TheMurrayD 49s

Mr Byrne says there's also serious limitations with photographs - skill of photographer, lighting, colour. She agrees #badenclay

Francene Norton ‏@francenenorton 33s

Dr Stark agrees there are limitations from examining photos rather than a physical examination. #badenclay @abcnews

Kate Kyriacou ‏@KateKyriacou 38s

Defence points out Dr Stark didn't see the scratches in person, she only looked at photographs. #badenclay

David Murray ‏@TheMurrayD 43s

Mr Byrne says to be clear Dr Stark has never made a physical exam of Gerard. #badenclay

GBC would have had to have shaved that morning, even if he had fingernail scratches on his face, as he said he shaved that morning so five o'clock shadow would not have been evident. If there were fingernail scratches, it must have been mighty painful to shave over them.

David Murray ‏@TheMurrayD 26s

Mr Byrne: There's nothing absolutely specifically that says those were caused by fingernails. A: correct #badenclay http://bit.ly/badenclayday6

Katrina Blowers ‏@katrinablowers 36s

Cross examination: "You can't say with certainty those three marks are caused by fingernails." "Correct." #badenclay @7NewsBrisbane

God, I hopethere was something left under her fingernails!

12:25pm: Mr Byrne said Dr Stark's examination of the photographs was not within "gold standard" practice of forensic medicine.

"To cut to the chase here doctor, you cannot say, you do not say, that those cuts on the face were caused by fingernails, correct?" Mr Byrne said.

"Not 100 per cent, no, that's absolutely correct," Dr Stark replied.

"There are serious limitations in interpretation without that forensic medical examination, correct?" Mr Byrne said.

"Correct," Dr Stark replied."

"And there are also serious limitations of interpretations of photographs?" Dr Byrne said.

"Yes, that's correct," Dr Stark replied.

Katrina Blowers ‏@katrinablowers 36s

Forensic expert: "The only persons who know how injuries are caused are the persons who were present." #badenclay @7NewsBrisbane

Kate Kyriacou ‏@KateKyriacou 48s

Dr Stark: With injuries, the only people who know how they were caused a lot of the time, were the people present. #badenclay

I'd have loved to see someone with the motivation to try to prove it is possible, try to make razor marks that look like fingernail marks with G's razor on a face.

Kate Kyriacou ‏@KateKyriacou 51s

Dr Stark says razor blade is less likely but she can't rule it out 100 per cent. #badenclay

David Murray ‏@TheMurrayD 1m

Dr Stark says she has seen many fingernail scratches and Gerard's would be typical. Can't rule out razor 100 per cent #badenclay

Kate Kyriacou ‏@KateKyriacou 56s

Gerard: It's not much fun for me to be honest. #badenclay

David Murray ‏@TheMurrayD 58s

They had one of the sessions last night - 'it's never been much fun for me' #badenclay

Oh, you poor thing :ohoh:

#badenclay is again being quizzed about hand injury. Says it was from a screwdriver when fixing a light fitting. @9NewsBrisbane

Have we ever seen any follow-up investigation of this hand injury? When was it meant to have happened?

I saw the bit where he said he didn't mention it to the friend (that he was "helping") at the time, but the age of the injury should be able to tell us something. A medical exam should tell if it was a few days old or only 8 hours....

GBC would have had to have shaved that morning, even if he had fingernail scratches on his face, as he said he shaved that morning so five o'clock shadow would not have been evident. If there were fingernail scratches, it must have been mighty painful to shave over them.

I bet he did though. I bet he shaved hard and tried to replicate the injury to make the lie a truth. In those delightful close ups posted last night, I thought there were razor cuts right near those scratches.

I agree with this Minerva - I'm behind so sorry if this has been said, but do you think his initial reaction was to try to set up the walk story and being abducted by a random stranger, but perhaps when he lawyered up and as time went on he decided it would be better to play the depression/suicide angle?
