Clean? I see him as just the opposite, and at the very least stupid and irresponsible. I see TN officials the same way, for not only not preventing this tragedy, but for rushing to put those girls back with him without finding out the truth. My thoughts on him have not cooled, they are hot as hell, and have been since I started reading the facts of this case. Who was in charge of this household? What kind of man allows such things to happen under his roof? What kind of man allows a man that was accused of molesting his little girls take them for weekend visits? No REAL man would do that. I'd like to hear more from Pamela, the sister that contacted the brother in NC and who also was married to GB and the mother of the oldest daughter. She is probably the one that tried to prevent all this by calling DHS in TN. There is more to this story, and it angers me that these poor girls are being sent right back into that house where their mother and sister were killed. I guess it would be easier to just paint this as a sweet homecoming than to ask the tough questions about GB. I don't see him as a victim. I see him as ALLOWING all of this to occur. These are my opinions, and I am from the area. I've seen families like these where everyone just turns their heads and allows the bs to continue, on and on for generations.

It is so easy to accuse others of child abuse, it can be done anonomously even, and is done so frequently by angry spouses, or by jealous sibblings, or by others who have hostility towards someone. An accusation to CPS means nothing if CPS uses four state or federal agencies, searches your computer and your home and property, interviews the child, and talks with the child's parents and NOTHING is cooberated. But, gossipers love to grab an accusation and run with it. This family was dysfunctional. It is hard to sort out actual facts.

I absolutely don't think they should go back to him..or Jo Ann if she was alive. Thank goodness my parents would never let me be around anyone that was even close to being a sexual predator. I don't get it.

It was AM's sister that reported this right? Was she the one married to GB? Do we know how stable she is? If AM , MM and AM's father are all said to have mental issues then this sister here may have issues too. If GB's thought she was unstable then he may have blew off what she was saying off especially since the girl was saying nothing happened either.

From a legal standpoint the girls must be released back to GB's custody. If there was some inclination that GB was not fit, then the county or state could take steps for alternate custody. But since that has not happened, and with all the investigation that has gone on here (including intense investigation of GB) and the fact that law enforcement was never concerned with GB, it would seem abundantly clear that he is fine.

It looks to me as though these girls don't know the difference between an unfit and stable environment. They were around Adam their whole lives. This is probably all that they know. I am assuming that the girls being with GB is much more stable than being in the care of Adam. If I was allowed, I would take them in myself. My heart just breaks for them. I have three girls of my own and these little girls look a lot like them. I wish I could take them in and give them the love and care that they need.

I am saying that his inaction contributed to this tragedy. Authorities should be able to investigate and see if this man is fit to raise these children. It was a male that committed these crimes, and as a female, I believe these children need females around them. Not a 60 something year old man who is not even the father of one of them, and who sat back and allowed his buddy to do all of this. It is how I feel about it. I am entitled to feel this way. Yes, GB marrying someone 30 years younger than him offends me. I have seen these types around this area my entire life, and it is yuck to me, dirty old men wanting young women and girls will always sicken me. I believe there is way more to this whole story than meets the eye, and I could be wrong, but I doubt it. This is all my opinion, and I am still entitled to it.

I think there is more than meets the eye also. I guess I have learned through all the parents killing their children or abusing their children that there may be a possibility ANYONE can abuse their family (even if you think they are nice---) and like this one, Gary letting them still be around Adam after that, makes me wonder if that is the best place for them to be.

Deputies went to Riverside Drive residence on March 3, 2010 to speak with Mayes, but that Teresa was at the home and allowed the deputies to walk through the home to gain information.

“Mrs. Mayes stated that unknown 7-year-old girl’s name is KB, and she lives with her parents in Whiteville, TN and they (her and her two sisters) come up once or twice a month to spend the weekend,” the report said. “Mrs. Mayes advised that they have a computer, but it does not have any internet access, and there were no signs of any pornographic magazines/materials in the coups bedroom, in the house or in the camper adjacent to the house.”

Thank you, Epiphany! I hadn't seen that yet. It sounds hopeful. I guess it will help if the girls can be asked a few questions at some point. Having them feel safe and loved is probably the most important thing right now.

In that report, deputies investigated a family member's claim that she walked into the bathroom and found Adam Mayes and then-7-year-old Kyliyah naked. He was shaving her legs. The family member also claimed Mayes kept a stash of child *advertiser censored* in his bedroom.


This is the link and a quote from the article from WBBJ TV 7. I took the sentence above to mean that both AM and KM were naked, but it could be a play on words.

We don't know when AM's wife showed up at the house that night. We haven't heard anything about her also staying in the house to help with packing, so right now I assume she drove up there at some point during the night.
His mother was not there at all. Mother is only charged with conspiracy.

Thank you for that info. Well, this is a highly relevant piece of information! We don't know what time JB and her daughter went to the shed, we don't know what happened, we don't even know when TM appeared on the scene or why she appeared on the scene. There has to be a lot more investigating done by the professionals. They just knew the first thing they had to do was to rescue those two little girls safely, and they did it! Thank God. But, there is a whole lot to still investigate.

Certainly the investigation is still ongoing. But I'd be shocked if LE doesnt already have these answers.

I think that pretty much leaves the father, GB, as the one the children were send home to.

Just b/c the girls were released to him it does not mean that he is at the house? They would be released to their father if he had nothing to do with the kidnapping and murders. He may be kicking himself in the butt right now for all we know. He trusted AM and may have thought that AM would not do something like this to him.


I live in Tx now but when I go to La to visit I say Im going home. B/c that is where family and friends are. So going home may just be going home to family and friends instead of actually going home into the house.

I understand it is your opinion but the part about older men marrying younger women deeply offends me. My father was 26 years older than my mother, he fell in love as did she, there was nothing dirty or seedy about it! As has been the same with many of my friends parents and current relationships. I don't think making sweeping statements like that is at all helpful or even relevant really to whether he's fit to parent. That's my opinion anyway.

I find it hard to understand as well. I think that some people only look for the best in others and try to shut their eyes to the fact that something such as (child molestation) is going on. Back in the day, it was never talked about.

Well wake up people. It happens all the time. Some people think that if they ignore it and act as if it isn't happening, that it won't really happen. It's basically denial.

There are several mothers that know that their children are being molested but they are as sick as the pervert that is molesting their child and they don't do anything to stop it from happening. I don't understand why certain people stand back and let these things happen and I don't think that they deserve a free pass.

It seems to me that the only reason that they allow the abuse to continue is for their own selfish reasons. Because they are codependent on their husband and don't want to lose them. They choose their sick, twisted husband over their own children because they would rather screw up their child's life then lose their child molesting husband. It probably has to do with the lack of self-esteem/self-worth that the mother has.

Regardless, it spells out S-E-L-F-I-S-H and S-I-C-K.

I don't believe for a second that AM took these girls out of some distorted fatherly love. I believe 100% that he is a pedophile pervert and got his Viagra for sexual purposes. It is a classic pedophile obsession that he had with these girls. He probably killed the oldest daughter because she was now too old for his taste and she was old enough to say no and tell someone. I'm so disgusted right now.

The girls, IMO, are where they should be! With GB. He is their father. It must be a wonderful feeling to have them home with him. It's Mother's Day this weekend. I can not image the mixed emotions he is feeling. He's lost his wife and eldest daughter, but has the littlest ones home with him. They are going to need a lot of help. They are going to have to cope with no longer having their mother and older sister in their lives. They are going to have to deal with the horrific ordeal they have just been put through. My highest hope is that he did not sexually abuse the girls and I think that them being released so soon may be a good sign that he didn't. I'm praying anyways.

IMO, Adam was grooming the girl/girls.

It appears Adam worked hard at planting the seed and orchestrating the rumor that he was the father of the youngest girls, blah, blah. How else could he explain his obsession with these girls to his neighbors?

Additionally, when and if he was questioned or reported regarding his behavior with the girl/girls, he resorted to the classic my crazy wife, my medicated wife, my jealous sister, etc.

IMO, he's a classic pedophile who, in the least, was grooming his victim/s. His behavior appears to have been calm, cool, collected and calculating.

Planting the rumor that he was their father might explain the "obsession" to neighbors. But why did the parents think he was so interested in these children?
Parents are the ones who allowed him to take the kids to his home.
Just looking at this guy, I fail to see what was trustworthy about him. He had no regular job, he had a wife who is described by her own relatives as slow and mildly retarded. He doesn't appear to be either rich or charming to explain why parents would trust him.
