Me too, I feel a deep sympathy for June and Barry, but I know for a fact that time won't heal the wounds. Time will teach you how to live with the loss, but not make it better by any stretch. I know because I've lost two siblings, and I've seen first hand what it does to the parents.
They are broken people. And to listen to Roux saying how broken Oscar bloomin Pisspoorstoryus is ......made my skin crawl, Roux went way over the top with the desperational speech about OP's loss......his money........his friends......well he shouldn't go around losing his temper in red mist rage that he shoots and kills his girlfriend then should he !! It was pathetic, and actually Nel came off far far more sincere and genuinely was visibly emotionally involved in his determination to finally get some justice for Reeva, - and this trial has failed on that account so far, totally embarrassing the SA Justice System and the SA police force and their criminal investigation process.

Now is the sentencing and if that Judge does not give him time IN PRISON , and opts to allow him to continue living in luxury at his Uncle's House with his 16hrs a month picking up litter or cleaning or whatever.....I think it sets a dangerous precedent.

Sorry to hear about your siblings.

If he gets 4 years of real jail time, would he not be out in 2 years?

Many legal experts are saying that OP would have to serve half his sentence and he would then be out assuming he behaved properly in prison. It's at this point that his 4 year suspended sentence would begin, ie while he is at home.

Firstly, I'm not a lawyer. I understand that if he gets a prison sentence he could be out in half that time. What I don't know is if he's given X years PLUS a suspended sentence, he STILL only has to serve half the X years. I can't help any further.

I wouldn't be surprised if he only served 10 months and the rest was suspended ,max 3 years, - the Legal Pundit said as much on Sky yesterday - it's going to disappoint I fear. :furious::banghead:

@czarkaztik @Bielie47 If sentence is prison, incarceration will start immediately,
unless Roux can persuade court to grant a small delay.

Thanks for clarifying your understanding of this.

As OP was escorted from court last week, a cameraman seeking to capture his exit was knocked off his feet and onto the ground.

While the heavy police guard stepped over the man, OP stopped to offer him a hand.

OP’s family and band of supporters seized on the moment as “the mark of the man”, an indication of his humility and courtesy.

“That this was shown towards a member of the media, those whom his lawyer has accused of persecuting the athlete, made the incident all the more significant.

But at every turn in this seven-month trial, there are plenty of voices pointing out the “other” side of Pistorius. They dismissed the latest incident as an image-boosting opportunity, as the judge prepares to give her sentence on Tuesday”.

Self-serving as usual. I very much doubt he would have done this without the press being in attendance. In any event, how desperate is the family to seize on this as “the mark of the man”. Desperate times call for desperate measures.

I don't disagree with your description of Pistorius at all, but don't feel the hate some do :)

I'm not judging anyone's reactions on here, especially those who have suffered DV. Was trying to relate my own experience of having watched the trial unfold.

Sorry didn't have time to articulate it better.

Reeva will forever be 29 because of OP's actions that night. He ended her life. He robbed her of her future. He took her from her family and friends. They have every reason in the world to hate him.

But don't confuse other's desire for justice with hate for OP. Reeva had nowhere to run and nowhere to hide, as OP fired round, after round, after round, after round into that toilet cubicle. Three of the four shots hit his intended target. Justice calls for him to spend a lengthy amount a time in prison for the crime he committed. And I will not apologize for being glad if justice is served on Tuesday.

What on earth is he going to do when he gets "startled" without his gun, run and hide in the closet and call Aimee? What he does if he's out on the streets and is startled is a scenario I'd rather not think about. I guess he'll be living in terror a lot of the time no matter where he is.
BIB - so long as there are only two "startles", people should be safe. It's the third "startle" that's the problem!

OP should be prepared for the worst and should be packing his designer suitcase right now.

First time in prison – what you can take (SA could be different of course)

Prisons have different rules on what you can have, what can get sent in, and so on. Expect to be annoyed.

I’m a list person so I thought I’d help OP out here.

• Wear a cheap watch to court (he’ll obviously have to run out and buy one of those)
• All toiletries (but don’t assume you can keep all of them)
• 7 or 8 sets of underwear (undies and socks)
• 4 tops (t-shirt, polo top, long sleeved)
• 4 bottoms (tracksuit pants, trousers, jeans, shorts)
• 2 windcheaters or tracksuit tops or jumpers or jackets (no hoods)
• 1 pair of pyjamas
• 1 pair of shoes/runners (no doubt he has plenty of those courtesy of Nike)
• 1 pair of scuffs/slides/thongs
• 1 belt (small buckle)
• 1 cap
• 1 pair of reading glasses in soft case
• 6 books, 6 magazines and 6 photos
• Stamps, writing paper and envelopes. (I’m not so sure about this. He won’t have the eloquent words to write)
• Pens and pencils. (have a variety as not all are allowed)
• A radio/alarm clock.
• Cash (not too much as there are monthly limits)

Of course he'll need super soft toilet paper and especially scented soaps and fragrances. No doubt the family will be able to bring him a TV, iPad, mobile and all the other little niceties from home that a special person needs to make life bearable. Oh, and that coffee machine. Ah, a home away from home, sort of.

The cameraman is just lucky OP wasn't armed. Last time he knocked over a living being, he got out of his car and shot it. Granted, it was a dog, but he probably puts them in the same category as reporters.

Chequebook justice in SA

“A common complaint the world over is that legal systems favour the rich who are able to afford top-notch lawyers and publicists to untangle them from their sticky situations.

So is there truth in the adage that justice is blind – and more pertinently, does it apply in South Africa?

For leading local forensic scientist David Klatzow, who has advised plaintiffs and defendants for more than 30 years, the answer is simple – no”. He believes justice favours the rich.

“Of course, there is a better chance that you and I, the middle class, or poor people, will end up going to jail. We simply cannot afford such sophisticated representation.

Certainly, Oscar’s legal team worked very hard on this case and they deserve kudos. But it’s an expensive exercise and not everyone can afford it,” he said.

“Mental muscle' deficiency

Klatzow also pointed out the huge “mental muscle” deficiency apparent in most countries.

This happens because private lawyers can easily earn up to three times the salaries of their state-employed counterparts, leading to the brightest minds defecting to the private sector where they are cherry-picked by well-heeled clients who are in a pickle.

‘The clever people who remain in prosecution often do so for moral reasons’, he said”.

IN OP’s trial Roux made about R1.645m in just 47 days.

Nel and Andrea Johnson, both deputy directors of public prosecutions, are in the pay bracket averaging R895 677 per annum.

The humanity of Nel just shines through both inside and outside the courtroom. For those who are unaware, in the evenings he teaches children aged between 3 and 6 the finer points of wrestling. “He is quiet and modest and completely focused when he trains with the youngsters,” the mother of a boy who gets lessons from Nel was quoted as saying. “He has endless patience and never loses his temper. The children love him,” she told the newspaper.

And so do we.

I'm thinking on Tuesday, instead of the delicious breakfast, the picture should show a lot of liquor/wine/etc. Think that's what were all going to need. See you guys then.

Thank goodness OP didn't have a gun handy. He might have been tempted to show the same 'compassion' to the cameraman that he showed to the poor dog he shot. Can you imagine? Pulls his gun out and 'BAM!' "I thought I'd put him out of his misery my lady."

EDIT: Ooops, just realized OZe got that thought in first. Sorry OZe :)
In my defence it was dark and there was a noise and it was everyone else's fault except mine... Well it worked for OP

#OscarPistorius EWN has learnt that a cell on a high-security floor at the hospital section has been identified for Pistorius. BB

#OscarPistorius the floor has just six cells and only one is currently occupied - by Czech fugitive Radovan Krejcir. BB

If anyone feels like a bit of masochism Carl's been busy tweeting again. The link is to his account, the quotes below are a couple of the fruits of his busy thumbs but there's more. The 'scent' one is just weird (did Jesus wear Hugo Boss?) and the Hulk one I don't even get what it means. Plus is it written by the Hulk as in the cartoon character or the Hulk as in CP's moniker for himself? Think it must be the latter as it doesn't make sense but he probably think it's profound.
