Was the garage sale unplanned? I don't remember hearing that tidbit. She was trying to get more money together for their trip to Disney World. It wasn't a neighborhood garage sale. Just something she decided to do. It had to be planned bc I think on the show they said that her coworkers knew she had scheduled that day off prior. It wasn't advertised anywhere though. She was counting on the people driving by to purchase whatever she was selling. I am curious as to why Liz set the alarm on her house when she was sitting in the driveway. Was the garage door open so that she had access to the house? If so, then what's the point of setting the alarm to trigger if the front door was opened when they could have just walked in her garage?
It was a 'last minute' to make some extra money for their Disney Trip, of course there had to be some bit of planning on what to put out.

It was advertised by a few Yard Sale signs they put out in the neighborhood.

I think EB may have locked the front door in an effort to keep people from possibly going in. It's hard to keep up with people when they are milling about. I've had several garage sales and I've always locked my front door and had my garage door open.

MOO

Weird that she would just up and decide to take a day off and do a garage sale on that short of notice. Why? Why not wait until the weekend? Did they check her phone to see if she had been in contact with anyone? If she was already having issues with someone surely that information would be public by now.

  • Early Morning [06:48:00 AM] Sergio leaves the property to go to work, in a white panel van.
  • Early Morning [07:51:55 AM] Sergio Barraza arrives back at the house and is detained by Law Enforcement for questioning.

It was revealed On the Case with Paula Zahn that SB listened to Liz being killed through the Ring cam. Question: why didn’t he alert 911? Additionally, he didn’t arrive back home until around 7:51 am. Apparently an hour after he first left his home. In addition, he was able to provide LE the exact time he left his house for work that morning, which is suspect in itself.
I can’t find this to watch it. Can you explain how it is that S actually heard the murder? And, if that is so, why did it take him nearly an hour to get back to the house? He’d just left minutes before.

Or, am I getting this wrong and he simply heard the murder played back some time afterwards, like later in the day?

Sorry, I posted this not reading ahead enough!

I watched on YouTube for $2

He said he got the ring alert at work when the police were there and saw police tape then went back and listened/watched the one when Liz was shot. Then he left work and went home.

We don’t know why it took him so long to get home. IIRC it took him 15 minutes to get to work, he left at 6:47, he said he left earlier than usual because he had to start early that day, presumably 7:00. He arrived back home at 7:51:55.

ETA: Liz’s parents received notification from the alarm company when police entered the house. SB never explained why he didn’t respond to that or why that didn’t prompt an immediate return home.

Just thinking, Liz’s parents were concerned when she didn’t answer the phone. How many times did SB try calling her from the time he viewed the ring video and returning home to find police there?

He didn't know anything had happened until his Ring camera motion notification went off. He saw that police tape was being put up around his house. The shooting happened out of the cameras range so no notification went out.

I don’t have a ring doorbell but in the video of the Barraza’s you can see Liz moving on the driveway just before she’s shot. Would this not send a notification?

I am about to try to watch the special.

Questions I have if someone wants to answer.

1. How was the policy purchased? Was it offered through Liz’s work?

2. Can anyone point me to a detailed description of what Liz did at her job? I know where she worked, and what her title was and they research what she may have done. But I am curious for an in depth look.

I have been in the camp of this being work related. (If there is even a camp for that)
I’d love to hear that LE has studied that angle, and not just the people relationship side of things there.

a. How was the response of her employer? I will tred lightly with my questions but I don’t recall even seeing a public statement?

b. Work would know she asked off for garage sale.

c. See my prior posts somewhere on this.

A while back someone who lives in the area posted that Fridays are big days around there for garage sales -usually the best days. I can’t remember who the poster was, though.

1. It was through work
2. Sounded like analyst, oilfield or something. It was thoroughly investigated.

It’s all pretty well covered in the show.

1. The policy was through her workplace
2.From what I picked up during what the policeman said, it appeared to just be analytics? Once they analyzed data they just handed it over to the other person who got to sit and do whatever with that data. She did not read any sensitive documents or stuff like that. She just received data and analyzed it in a way it made sense to others.
There were no other employees missing from the workplace that day.

The killer; some possible scenarios:
1) knew sergio was leaving early and liz was home with the garagesale
2) was aiming for sergio but he left early, so he went for Elizabeth
3) Liz was the intended target, and he knew Liz was at home due to the garagesale.
Also a possibility:
4) Did not expect her to be at home, but noticed the garagesale signs during that night roll through and decided to take a chance at it. Was prepared to ring the doorbell. Either could have been the target. Sergio was just lucky to not be there.

I’m guessing her husband knows the precise time he left for work as he was probably picked up leaving on their Ring cam which was time stamped.

The way I understood what he said in the PZ show was that he got an alert from the Ring app on his phone. He checked it at that time and saw crime scene tape going up out front of his house. He’s like what happened! So he rewinds the Ring footage and goes back through the timeline until he gets to the shots being fired. Then he rushes home.

I don’t have a Ring so I don’t know what triggers an “alarm.” But I can see how he wouldn’t get home until 7:51 if he didn’t even get the notification until police were on scene and putting up tape. Then he still had to go back through footage etc.
Yes, this does make sense. Did he mention hearing Liz scream? I too don't know how Ring cams work.
I'm going to rewatch the program. Apologies for any confusion.

He heard the murder playback. IMO

on the door cam you can hear her scream and the shots but you can't see anything.
You can see movement on the driveway, which is why I assumed (perhaps wrongly) that the movement would have sent a notification. You can see the truck drive by, then see Liz moving on the driveway, then hear Liz say "good morning" and see a bit of movement before the gunshots. I guess it may depend on what settings they had it on, I know someone who usually just has it set for their front porch but when they were dealing with a stalker they set it to notify when anyone moved on the sidewalk or street.

Not the door cam... It is pointing straight ahead with walls on both sides. The neighbors you can see what happens and the aftermath. The only movement I could see was like a white thing. I do have crappy eyesight tho... so take it easy on me.

I could not hear anything but the scream and shots from their door cam.

i just watched it again today to make sure I wasn’t misremembering. Okay I just watched it again now and you can definitely see Liz moving stuff on the tables just before she says good morning.
