The two women, along with Broussard’s fiancé, Shane Carey, surrounded the 33-year-old Broussard as she began pushing in labor. Fieramusca stood at Broussard’s right, silently holding the hand of the friend she met years earlier at a Bible institute, recalls Shreves, who was holding up Broussard’s knees.

“Magen was quiet. Somber,” says Shreves. “She wasn’t saying a word to her.”

At 10:12 p.m., Margo Elizabeth Carey was born. Minutes later, Fieramusca “just left quickly,” Shreves tells PEOPLE in this week’s issue, on newsstands Friday.

“Without a goodbye she was gone,” Shreves says. “I knew something was wrong.”

VS’ daughter, CN, and son, CF, 41, were also close to Broussard. Fieramusca told multiple friends that she had given birth and was settling in as a new mom.

In a call with Fieramusca, CN could hear a baby in the background, CF says. Now the family is horrified that baby may have been Margo. “My sister didn’t know,” he says. “She can’t stop crying.”

Baby of Austin mom found dead to reunite with family: CPS
The baby girl who was found inside a home in northwest Harris County last week is being reunited with family Monday night, according to Child Protective Services.

CPS said the state is no longer seeking temporary custody of baby Margot Carey. The baby is believed to be the daughter of Heidi Broussard, who was found dead inside of a trunk while the child was found alive inside of the home on Bo Jack Drive.

"They have confirmed it's her," said Ty Carey, the baby's paternal grandfather at a vigil for Broussard held Monday night in Austin. "She's coming home tonight, and that's the best thing that can ever happen."

Fieramusca had her first appearance before a judge in Travis County, and the date for her next hearing has not been set yet, the Travis County District Attorney’s office told CNN.

Jackie Cook, Fieramusca’s court-appointed attorney, told CNN in an email Saturday night that she had just been assigned to the case, and it was unlikely her case would be set during the holidays as most courts were closed.

The probable cause document — which typically outlines the facts that justify an arrest –– has been sealed by the judge because the investigation is ongoing.

Parents with the Oak Hill Youth Sports Association organized a fundraiser for the family of Heidi Broussard, and the group came through in a big way just before Christmas.

Police zeroed in on Fieramusca after a close friend of Broussard revealed details about the long friendship between the two women on the "Jay is 4 Justice" crime podcast.

“This is something prosecutors are going to take into consideration," Bianchi said. "... When you’re looking at a decision as to whether to make this a death penalty case, 'Should she be charged with murder because she [Broussard] was vulnerable?' ... because there was a friendship that was there,” Bianchi said.

"She [Fieramusca] took advantage of her … she plotted this for a significant period of time. These are all aggravating factors that would lead towards higher charges and higher sentencing," Bianchi added.
