I think she had to have made it to McD's or there would be an appeal for anyone who saw her between x and x time. The bf would be easy to check on so would the ex. As far as I know security cameras are in most mc/d's and if not it wasn't quite lunchtime rush so its likely she would have been remembered, or the couple would. Whereas not remembering would still lead to an appeal for sightings imo.
Given they are processing the ex's car and they searched that fishing hole (and it had to have some relevance or why there and not elswhere, they were pretty certain she was in it) i still believe it points to the ex.
What you say makes perfect sense. I just find it so weird that absolutely no one has spoken in the media about having seen either of them at the McDonald's. Also if they were captured on security cameras, I would think the footage would be released in hopes of finding witnesses who might have seen something to prove what happened after they left McDonald's.
I sure would also know why they zeroed in on this location if it is indeed 4 miles from where her car was found. Her car wasn't found at McDonald's, right? So how did the car get from McDonald's to where it was, and how did she get from the car to where she was found, assuming the body is hers.
Just jumping off from your post, not asking you these questions specifically.
