The "chill" "enlightened" yoga attitude.
IMHO - it happens when a person’s inner view of themselves is that of a person with an empty face. Not an uncommon trait, and many people project “the helper’s image” onto that empty face, and as the result, end up doing lot of good. But KA tried on too many images and as ended up with a murderer. Yoga might have been an attempt at altruistic pathway, but it simply never stuck to her.

Wilson's family is back inside the courtroom at this time. They were clearly notified that autopsy pictures would be shown this morning and opted to skip it and arrive later. Next witness: Alejandra Gil, Forensic DNA scientist, Texas Department of Public Safety.

We are looking at a Texas DPS Biology Lab Report. There are eight submissions that were examined. Submissions include: Swabs from handlebars of bicycle; swabs from seat of bicycle; swabs from firearm grip, trigger, trigger guard, safety, magazine release and slide; swabs from magazine base and loading port; known saliva standard from Kaitlin Armstrong; known blood standard from Mo Wilson; swabs from underside of bicycle seat; swabs from exterior of gum wrapper.

Now a different lab form. Two submissions include: Known saliva standard from Colin Strickland; known saliva standard from Caitlin Cash.

Now a different lab form. Submissions include: Swabs of stain on floor; swabs of stain on cinderblock.

Now a different lab form. Submissions include: Swabs of stain on left thigh of Mo Wilson.

Gil was responsible for collecting and packaging the DNA. She did not perform analysis. No further questions from the state.

Defense's witness. Gil testifies that the evidence came from APD. She says she cannot vouch for how APD collected or handled it before she received it. She can't speak to possible contamination.Gil explains "shedding DNA." It is when you touch an item and leave behind DNA. Some people tend to leave behind more DNA than others, depending on the rate your skin sheds.

Gil says DNA does not explain when it was deposited or how it was deposited, just that it exists. In this case, Gil tested for the presence of blood. The only blood samples that came back positive was from the floor and on Mo Wilson's leg. It is unclear to Gil whose blood that is.

Gil says the only standards she was given to test the DNA was to Mo Wilson, Kaitlin Armstrong, Colin Strickland and Caitlin Cash. The subjects were decided by APD. Gil has the opportunity to test the DNA to anyone APD provides, but these were the only subjects APD delivered.

Gil said she only did sample preparation, but did not interpret the data. That was a woman by the name of Samantha Perkins. Perkins is here today. No further questions. Witness dismissed.

Next witness, you guessed it, Samantha Perkins.

The courtroom is being shown a PowerPoint presentation of the results of the DNA analysis.The first slide explains what DNA is: how it is genetic instructions that code everything in our bodies from how they function to what we look like. ~1% is highly different from other individuals, which is what an analyst is interested in.

Perkins says they use STRmix Software to interpret a DNA profile. Perkins says she looks at every location to determine if the sample contributes to the profile or if it should be excluded. The software helps interpret the mix, deconvolute the profile and compare reference samples, performing a statistical calculation called "likelihood ratio" to provide weight to the evidence.

@alcaprari23

We are now looking at the reports that Perkins created regarding the DNA profiles.First submission: Swabs from handlebars of bicycle. DNA profile has three contributer matches. Mo Wilson, Kaitlin Armstrong and one unrelated individual. Kaitlin Armstrong is considered a possible contributor to the profile. Probability of Colin Strickland and Caitlin Cash is excluded.

2nd Submission: Swabs from seat of bicycle. Mixture of three individuals including Mo Wilson. Also two unrelate individuals. Kailtin Armstrong is a possible contributor for the profile. "Very strong support" it is Armstrong's DNA. There is no higher likelihood than "very strong support." Cash and Strickland have been excluded.

rsbm. so the defense suggest blame for injury on an officer... ridiculous. Thanks for posting all the tweets, @jash and good to see you at eye drop trial case, too. :)
I would like to see the medical records from the orthopedic and the hospital verifying there was an actual injury to her shoulder. Without those I will continue to believe the alleged injury is a myth. moo

@alcaprari23

3rd Submission: Swabs from firearm grip, trigger, trigger guard, safety, magazine release and slide serrations. DNA profile obtained could match three individuals. Kaitlin Armstrong and Colin Strickland are possible contributors. Cash and Mo Wilson are excluded. Armstrong's DNA likelihood is 3.87 septillion times greater than the probability that this profile came from unrelated, unknown individuals.

4th submission: Swabs from magazine base and loading port. No interpretable DNA profile obtained.

5th & 6th: The saliva standards for Armstrong and Wilson were used for comparison purposes.

7th: Swabs from from underside of bicycle seat. No interpretable DNA profile obtained.

8th: swabs from exterior of gum wrapper. No DNA profile obtained.

9th: Saliva from Colin Strickland used for comparison purposes.

10th: Saliva from Caitlin Cash used for comparison purposes.

11th: Swabs of stain on floor. DNA profile matches Mo Wilson. Armstrong, Strickland, Cash were all excluded as possible matches of blood on floor.

Witness passed. Defense's turn.Perkins says she interpreted the DNA in this case. Defense pushes that DNA does not tell when or how the DNA got to an eventual location, just that it exists.Swabs were only taken from the Sig Sauer firearm, not the Springfield, says Perkins.

Submissions bbm

We are now looking at the reports that Perkins created regarding the DNA profiles.

First submission: Swabs from handlebars of bicycle. DNA profile has three contributer matches. Mo Wilson, Kaitlin Armstrong and one unrelated individual. Kaitlin Armstrong is considered a possible contributor to the profile. Probability of Colin Strickland and Caitlin Cash is excluded.

Based on the chart we were looking at, there is "strong support" that Kaitlin Armstrong's DNA is a match on the bicycle handlebars.

@alcaprari23

Defense asking about the firearm testing, which shows that there could have been three possible contributors. Armstrong, Strickland and a third unknown profile. That third profile showed a Y chromosome, indicating male DNA. It is impossible to say who the unknown contributor is.
