Children have not been in school due to Lockdown, so it could be teachers did not notice the older child missing. 17th February I believe coincides with half term holidays for most of the UK schools, so they would not have been reported absent from any online learning either.

Is there a link to Social Services involvement?? It's not enough to just say 'from news articles' you need to provide links to the source material.

If she had fled home there would be a record of her journey through passport control. IMO police know she and the little one are dead through either evidence at the home or witness statement from the older child. They just haven't found their bodies, which aren't needed to prove murder anyway.

Gosh, almost two weeks of searching one house. They must have been extremely well hidden, perhaps beyond even the capabilities of radar equipment, or inside something structural that needed a lot of care to dismantle or reinforce. I can't imagine, and I have no idea how he intended to keep this a secret with one child old enough to know. IMO.

This story is unbelievable. What is going on in the world when a man can murder a woman and her child and then keep the other kid hanging around for days? Honestly, it beggars belief that these kind of crimes are happening on our doorsteps. The poor, poor things. I can't imagine what they all went through.

It's difficult to understand how they are connected. I do suspect it was some kind of internet romance and she may well have been desperate for some security if her previous marriage was difficult - it may have seemed reasonable to take a risk on a man who appears perfectly normal on the surface.

I have been following this case for a while now, but just wanted to double check in case I misunderstood something.
This guy had killed the mother and younger daughter and kept alive older child in his house, until the police came to arrest him?

I wonder if he is a landlord and has flats for rent in Dundee? That one may have been empty and he hid evidence or something there.

Could well be. I'm from Dundee and a friend said the house in Ardler was being rented at one point. Given the estate isn't that old and pics on FB suggest the suspect was living there in 2013, shortly before he emigrated to Japan, I'm thinking he may have rented it out then.

The travel thing is interesting. Technically you are not permitted to travel in to Scotland from England without exceptional reasons. There’s police at train stations checking who’s getting off, if their travel is essential and where they’re going. I can’t imagine it would be too difficult to tell a convincing fib in that scenario but it’s risky with two kids in tow. There are still direct flights from Bristol to Edinburgh once or twice a week I think but I don’t know if anybody bothers checking the UK arrivals people. Too busy quarantining the non UK people. They’d have a firm record of her arrival date etc if that’s how she travelled north.

If you’re driving it’s 7.5 hours and 440 miles each way.

There's been a lot of media scare stories regarding police checks but IMO they are not happening. I've travelled from south England to Dundee 3 times in the last 6 months, by train and car and not been stopped once, even when changing trains or collecting tickets. One hotel did question my reasons for staying but were happy with my explanation (valid exemption, under lockdown rules in both countries). I've travelled with kids too and would always choose the train as with a family railcard it is considerably cheaper than flying and the journey time is similar once the airport transfers are taken into account. It isn't easy, quick or cheap to get to Dundee by public transport from Edinburgh or Aberdeen airport at the best of times, so I wouldn't do it with restricted services as there are at the minute. Unless I was being picked up at the airport by someone who also had the correct car seats for the two kids involved.
