I don't understand the reason why so many men have been investigated. If I were in charge of this crime then I would be focusing my attention on married women, surely they would have better motives?

Maybe it's find the man first because he's the start of the thread and from there it will unravel and he'll take you to the woman. Just a thought.

I agree, the culprit(s) are known and are male but this doesn't rule out women having knowledge, maybe there just isn't enough to make arrests on any women for.

A further thought is about the cctv footage shown recently - maybe we are all focusing on the wrong figure? Perhaps the person who walks along the main road is of greater significance? Is there any other activity in the footage?

However, the 2nd passenger behaves inconspicuously as opposed to the "POI", IMO.

As someone already said in this thread:

In our little town even we have had, what was a tight-knit community of pub and restaurant owners and staff along with some regulars, who let the puppets dance after their closing time. They went around to colleagues (often to another town) and there started the parties with much alcohol, sex with each other, sex with prostitutes, leaving for casino visits etc. etc.
I think an unwritten rule was to keep everything secret (sex, spending too much money, what else). Most of the party people had a relationship or were married. Some marriages logically didn't hold out this lifestyle of their partners.

I could imagine: An accident like the sudden death of a party participant would blow the whistle on the whole giant clique, if you would not have covered up.

I recall seeing a post with a Youtube version of the cctv which someone had compiled, indicating that there was a person standing in the driveway of one of the semi detached properties on Heworth Road (40 seconds in clip below). This had not been highlighted by the police campaign which as we know focused on the 2 men in the foreground. Surely that onlooker came forward with eye witness evidence?
Also, at the beginning of the footage, just before the man comes round the corner, a couple can be seen walking a few yards in front of him (16 seconds). It was certainly not a quiet time of the evening on Heworth Road.

Yes, there are 2 people (don't see whether man or woman) walking from right to left across the street (never observed :) ).

Again !! I find it very striking, that the man with bag looks around 2 x: 1 x backward and 1 x to the right (in the direction of both streets). IF he did at that time some totally innocent activity, WHY did he stop to allow the pedestrian to pass, WHY did he look around while he rounded the corner??? No one behaves in this way for no reason. IMO

Agreed, he looks shifty. People may doubt whether his intentions were good or otherwise but there is no escaping the fact that this was an hour before CL disappeared forever and therefore it has to be scrutinised. Perhaps NYP already know who these people are and are baiting others to come forward with information. It would be interesting to know if any of the suspects so far have any relevant previous form e.g. for violent conduct towards women.

I still can't get away from the idea that it was Claudia spotted in the morning on the way to work, the hebden bridge sighting of a man and woman talking and the couple arguing on university road.....it just seems like too much of a coincidence, the time was right, on Claudia's route to work and nobody's ever come forward.

"Police reveal Ms Lawrence spent the night with a mystery boyfriend just two days before she went missing. It was 'critical' they spoke to the man, a detective adds" - I wonder if the police ever found out who that was?

Yes, I must admit it did seem like odd behaviour.

Yes the new police investigation has not focused on those early reported sightings although seeing a couple arguing in the street at 6am would register with me as rather unusual behaviour. With regard to the date with a mystery boyfriend which was revealed in 2010 by a colleague at the restaurant if I recall correctly: Do we assume this person has been discovered, since he is no longer mentioned explicitly? Might he be the person around whom NYP are trying to build their case?

Video:

I don't know: The white entrance door across the street Heworth Road, left half of the semi-detached house, is there someone standing, below the right end of the bow? The place does not look like a piece of wall and is moving somehow. When the POI with bag comes back, this maybe-person has something white and rectangular in hands or beside to the right (when POI goes to the rear of C's property, the white thing isn't shown). Now I think, it could perhaps be only the white window frame, but it is somehow moving too.

If I look on Google maps and the house is direct in front of me, then there is specified the No. 36. No idea, whether this is precisely or not. Please have a look!

No, the white thing beside the maybe-person isn't the window frame. IMO

It would help if they ran the tape all the way through. On the daily mail version of the tape, I now see what looks like a third person in the group walking in front of him (at 1m 33s). Maybe they had come from the pub? I may be imagining this (probably) but: The person on the far left of the group of 3 is wearing a light jacket and dark trousers. What if our man was part of that group and peeled off (with their knowledge) to go to Heworth Place because it's possibly near where he lives. When he returned, the man with the light jacket had turned back on his tracks too, causing him alarm as it was unexpected?..... Or maybe not.

Gone: The Disappearance of Claudia Lawrence and Her Father's Desperate ...

I just read in the book (reading test), the University of York campus had been a heavy construction side, when Claudia vanished.
Interesting ...

I've said before - I think this is quite natural behaviour. Think about it: if you're walking alone at night, would you rather have someone walking behind you, whom you can't see, or would you prefer that they were in front of you where you can see them? I know which makes me feel safer. If you've ever been mugged, or just followed by someone a bit dodgy, you won't find this odd at all. Footsteps behind you in the dark can be really unnerving, especially if they pick up speed. I imagine someone with military training would do the same, it's something that becomes second nature.

This may be more important than we all think. I suggest we've taken it at face value. What if the person saying they saw a couple was in fact somebody putting themselves there, as they know they could have been seen but mis directing away from themselves. The Police know who was about and at what time, if only one person 'saw' the mystery couple then it's very telling.

Is this another subtle way the Police are asking ' Was your boyfriend/partner/husband away over night? Just think about it ladies, please come forward, we'll check it out'

I'm not sure, but I think the Hebden Bridge sighting was someone on a bicycle going away from the direction of the university (Northwards)...which probably means that a different witness reported the university rd sighting. The interesting thing is that both witnesses reported that the man was wearing a black hoodie.
