They are similar but the man on the bus seems to have a much thicker head of hair. Any idea what time had passed between the bus pic and the first pics we have of Halliwell? And as a driver, would Halliwell have been in the habit of catching the bus?

Could this finally be it? I want to know where his father lived, you can't say someone is familiar with York because their father lived in Huddersfield, 50 mils apart, but if he lived a few streets away around the time... that's a different story.

I got a feeling this may just be it you know, after all the years of suspicion surrounding associates and men friends. The guy on the bus looks just like Halliwell, the ears, nose, thin lips and heavy brow line. His hair needs to have considerably thinned between 2009 and 2012 but that's totally possible, he would have been 45 in 09? Late 40's, common age range for hair to start thinning considerably.

Hmmn did Halliwell's father live a few streets away from Claudia or in huddersfield which is 50 odd miles away? I don't think he can be ruled out either way but it would be interesting to find out just how close his father really lived to Claudia .

If Halliwell did attach significance to particular dates then he probably just targeted any female walking alone on those dates, and Claudia walking alone either that evening or in the early hours on her way to work could have been an easy target for him. And if his victims were planned by date rather than oportunistic then he may even have had burial spots ready and waiting.

As for whether he'll ever confess?.I don't think appeals from the family of the missing girls would tug at his heart strings, but now that he knows he's definitely not going to be released he might be attracted to the idea of being known as a serial killer and start giving police clues about other victims.

He does look younger than 45 in the side profile pics. Also if somebody travelling by bus/on foot killed Claudia... what would they do with her body? I think it's more likely somebody who had their own transport.

It's a lot of hair to lose in the course of 3 years, but there were definite similarities. I'm not convinced though, for the reasons other have listed above.

I think its totally possible for the hair to have thinned that much in three years. I have seen plenty of men lose more hair in less time, and sometimes at a younger age than Halliwell.

He seems to be cunning. Why not taking a bus for a nice alibi and take his car later from where-ever?

Last night it emerged that Halliwell was declared bankrupt last year. A petition was filed at Swindon County Court in January 2010 and described Halliwell as self-employed while running Georges Chauffeur Services.

Halliwell seemed to kill women that he had become fixated on. Claudia liked to go out socialising a lot. She could have easily crossed paths with Halliwell if he was in the area, possibly at the local pub.

Detective Superintendent Steve Fulcher says Claudia is one of four women who may have been killed by Halliwell. According to the paper, Mr Fulcher believes police should now take another look at this line of enquiry because Halliwell's father lived close to where she disappeared in York in 2009.

The man on the bus looks a lot like halliwell, I agree with pp's the hair looks different but it still looks like it's thinning, cutting it shorter would make it more noticeable though.
Could he have deliberately let it grow longer or cut it shorter afterwards to make it harder for him to be recognised ? He seems devious enough to think of doing that,. I agree aswell it would be harder to trace him on a bus than in a car with his reg number on display.

When was bus man footage taken and was it near Claudia's house / work?

Wonder if the argument witnesses have looked at pictures of Halliwell to see if they recognise him.

I think it's very likely he has killed other girls and the police have confirmed they think so too, but I believe he will play a very devious game now, all about point scoring. We can only hope his vanity and ego trip him up. I'd be playing the "as if you've managed to pull this off before you total idiot" card if I was interrogating him.

The description police have issued of the man getting on the bus has striking similarities with the description of someone else police want to speak to, especially as he appears to be left-handed. The man featured in the pictures was seen getting on a Coastliner bus at 5.39am on East Parade, just around the corner from Miss Lawrence’s York home. He bought a single ticket to Leeds but his journey would have taken him along the chef’s route to work.

He shouldn't have been hard to find, they would know where he got off and if it was Leeds centre he'd be on CCTV. Also there can't be many people catching buses at 5:39am, why didn't he come forward?!
