The statement revealed that one of his victims was told she would have to wait 8-12 months for specialist counselling. In the end she made her own arrangements.

The court has just been told that McCann has a "bad back" and "once again" has declined to appear in court.

He has also chosen not to appear via videolink.

Prosecutor John Price QC is going over McCann's convictions which are relevant to the case.

He was given an indeterminate sentence in September 2008 and was in jail until March 2017 but stole two BMW cars from a driveway just four months later.

"His license was not revoked".

The impact statement from one of McCann's victims id being read to the court.

Only one is being read to court but the judge has confirmed he's read all the statements more than once over the weekend.

The victim, who must remain anonymous, wrote how she had to move home and leave her job as a result and felt vulnerable due to the details people knew about her attack.

Whole life sentence not to be imposed
The judge has commented on news that the prosecution would ask for a whole life tariff.

"While theoretically possible to issue a whole life tariff for cases that do not involve murder, it is in practice not applied to any case not involving murder."

He added that a life sentence was not being requested and would not be applied.

This states life is an option for rape so what is the judge talking about? Is 'whole life' sentence different to 'life' then?

Yes, whole life means never getting released, like Sutcliffe, Halliwell etc.

Life has a minimum tariff which means they can be released after serving the minimum, but they remain on license for life and can be recalled if they break their release conditions.

33 life sentences equating to 30 years? Wtf is even the point? Mind you, I believe the previous “record” was 26 life sentences.

I hope he dies horribly in jail, and the sooner the better. That is all.

While he could not jail him for a whole life tarriff, meaning McCann would never leave jail, the judge impose 30 life sentences.

They are to be of a minimum term of 30 years, to be served concurrently.

In some closing remarks the judge thanked the victims for their courage.

He also branded McCann a "coward" as well as a "paedophile" and "psychopath".

He added that he did not think McCann would top committing violent crimes until "age deprives him of the strength to overpower others".
