It's difficult to think of a reason they haven't charged him with murder of the baby though, if he knew Kelly and was aware of the pregnancy. I think the intent required for murdering her would lead to the same intent to kill the baby too, so they've charged him with manslaughter because they can't prove he knew.

It does look as if he knew exactly where he was heading though. It's not as if the open window or door was accessible from the street. Maybe he saw the opportunity for unobserved entry at some other time if he was working nearby, but didn't know the occupants and sleeping arrangements.

It's an interesting thought ... not sure how these things run ..but yes in theory if he knew she was pregnant you would think it would be double murder

I wonder if the house or an occupant was a specific target not neccessarily the victim

The alleged killer of a heavily pregnant woman and her baby son has appeared in court.

Aaron McKenzie, 25, is accused of murdering eight months pregnant Kelly Mary Fauvrelle, 26,
He is also accused of the manslaughter of her baby son,

McKenzie, appeared at Camberwell Magistrates’ Court, where he is also charged with possession of a knife,

He stood in the dock, wearing dark blue jeans and a grey sweater, with his arms folded during the brief hearing.

McKenzie, of Peckham Park Road, confirmed his name, date of birth and that he is British, but did not give his address.

He was not asked to enter pleas to any of the charges and District Judge Karim Ezzat told him he will next appear at the Old Bailey on Wednesday for a bail hearing, before another hearing at the same court on August 12.

McKenzie was remanded in custody.

(Incidently, in the Libby Squire case, August 12th is also the date of Pawel Relowicz's first day of trial at Sheffield Crown Court on the 13 unrelated charges)

I do wonder if the grammar is misleading in this article

Not sure he would go back to Camberwell Magistrates after being at the Old Bailey.... I think he’s back at OB on August 12

Good to see Libby’s trial coming up, must go and catch up on the thread

The cause of baby Riley's death has not yet been established, the hearing was told, but Kelly died of ‘multiple stab wounds’.

The inquest into their deaths was opened and adjourned today while the criminal investigation continues.

Aaron McKenzie, 25, is due to appear at the Old Bailey tomorrow (THURS) to answer charges of murder and manslaughter in relation to Kelly and Riley's deaths, respectively.

( I think the reporter may have got the day wrong, as AMck has been at the Old Bailey this morning )

He was initially charged with the murder of Kelly Fauvrelle and manslaughter of Riley Fauvrelle, the reason being the cause of death for Kelly Fauvrelle was given as multiple stab wounds.

“In terms of Riley the cause of death is unascertained. Tests could not find a cause of death.”

( not sure if this is why the charge for Riley is manslaughter ? )

The ex-partner of a heavily-pregnant woman who was fatal stabbed in her own home has admitted responsibility for her death, the Old Bailey heard today.

Aaron McKenzie, 25, who is Ms Fauvrelle’s former partner and the father of Riley, was charged at the weekend with murder, the baby’s manslaughter and possession of a knife. He appeared at the Old Bailey this morning.

The court heard he “accepts responsibility for the death” of his former girlfriend, and is going to be psychiatrically assessed in custody.
