Is this type of extension normal? To me it implies they don’t have much physical evidence as surely he would’ve been charged if they did? Hope that isn’t the case and I’m wrong, I’m not very knowledgeable on this subject.

I always think the opposite when they hold someone this long. It makes me think they are just getting as much evidence as possible for a strong case, and I expect them to charge him soon.

With an adult, I’d say the same. It becomes harder with under 18’s. They have to rely on an AA being present, they may have had very little time to question him.

Normally by this stage they are just making sure they have enough to convince the CPS to charge, or crossing the Ts and dotting I’s on what they have.

"Her children have left a heartfelt tribute to their much-loved mum, describing how she always wanted the best for them and never let them down.

S and S said: “On behalf of the whole family we would like to thank every single person that has helped and supported us during the search for our mum – you are all aware now of the tragic circumstances and that she is no longer with us.

"Lindsay was a great mum and wife, much loved daughter, loving aunty and sister-in-law and a great friend too.

"She loved running, walking, camping and socialising with her small circle of friends.

"Our mum always wanted the best for us and never let us down with anything.

"It saddens us deeply that someone has cruelly taken our mum away from us and now she will never see us get married, have children and set up homes of our own which she would have loved."

"EIGHT police vehicles were parked this morning on Burnley Road, close to Accrington Cemetery, where the body of 47-year-old mother-of-two Lindsay Birbeck was found.

Police have not said whether this morning's activity is linked to the murder of the high level teaching assistant, who had been missing for just under two weeks.

Marked and unmarked police vehicles are stationed within the cemetery and a large part of the far end, close to the train tracks, remains cordoned off.

A blue police tent and a larger white tent have also been erected within the cordon behind the trees."

Heavy police presence near Accrington Cemetery as investigation into Lindsay Birbeck's murder continues

I just can’t imagine what happened here or why. It’s just crazy. A random 16 year old boy strangling to death a tall, 47 year old woman walking down the street in the day, holding onto her body for 5 days, then wheeling her down the street and dumping her in the cemetery? Doesn’t ring true to me. There’s got be a personal connection and maybe others involved. Moo

I have to admit when I read that I automatically thought it a very non 16 year old way to murder. Probably my auto thoughts were influenced by current trend for youth and knife crime though.
Everything I have read regarding strangulation is that it is not that easy to do with your bare hands and requires some strength. I'm wondering if a knee was used? They haven't released anything other than "compression" which was posted upthread I believe? If this boy is the killer, and is the same one pictured with the bin - I'm thinking something was used to assist IMO.

Perhaps LE was quick to report strangulation as COD because some kind of ligature was used and left in place? MOO

I agree, it doesn’t seem like a random attack.
