'Exhausted' defendant left DNA 'all over the place', Old Bailey hears
Mr Glasgow QC continues:

Unlike her sister, Nicole did fight back. Given the injuries to her hand and legs, she must have done done all she could to stop the defendant. This explains the appaling savagery of the attack.

Wounds were all over her body. Again the knife was wieleded with such force that it went through her sternum. Two of the wounds to her upper body were serious. Abrasions to her back and front that must have ocurred when she was dragged.

Such was the verocity, he cut his own hand on the knife. By the time he dragged the bodies, he must have been exhausted and bleeding. That is why, the crown says, he may not have been as careful as he might have been and left DNA all over the place.

Mr Glasgow said: "The defendant has denied any involvement in the crimes he is alleged to have committed.

"The Crown anticipates that the defendant is likely to offer the following explanation for the evidence that is said to implicate him in the murders:
he is likely to claim that he was attacked by someone on the night of 5 June 2020 who robbed him and who stabbed him in the course of that robbery;
he is likely to claim that the reason his DNA and blood was found all over the crime scene, the murder weapon and the dead bodies is because he has been the victim of a conspiracy;
and he is likely to claim that his purchase of knives and his written agreement to sacrifice women has nothing to do with what happened in Fryent Country Park.

Danyal Hussein: Teenager 'murdered sisters Bibaa Henry and Nicole Smallman as sacrifice to a demon so he could win the lottery', court hears

Defendant tried to gain access to Bibaa's phone after killing, court told
Mr Glasgow QC tells the court that both mobile phones were thrown into a pond before the defendant returned home.

How long he spent with the bodies is unknown, but he tried to repeatedly access Bibaa's mobile phone as its screen was turned on and off more than 130 times.

Hussein is then alleged to have returned home around 15 minutes after both phones were thrown into a pond. Hussein does not accept that it is him on CCTV entering his father's address.

Hussein attended hospital after 'deal with the Devil' did not result in lottery win
Mr Glasgow QC tells the court that, after realising his "deal with the Devil" was not bearing fruit, Hussein attended Northolt Park Hospital in the days after the alleged murders.

He was then referred to the Royal Free Hospital to see a plastic surgeon, where he insisted he suffered the injuries after being robbed.

While the defendant was seeking help for the injuries, the friends of the women were growing concerned for their safety. Several friends went back to Fryent Park to find out what might have happened.

Adam Stone is a friend who was not there but had been in contact with Bibaa on the evening. The last he heard from her was a message at 1.04am saying she was dancing in the park. He told her to let him know when she gets home.

He went to the addresses of both women, but was told neither had come home. He rang everyone he could think of, including the police. No one knew what had happened. He went to carry out his own investgation with his parents at the park. There, he met with a friend who had been there that night, Nina.

Nina had sent messages asking Bibaa to send the pictures that had been taken at the party. She drove there and went back to the area the party had taken place, but everything appeared to have been cleared away. The two searched the grass and found a pair of glasses.

They rang police for advice and were told to take them to a police station, Nina set off to do so.

The moment the two bodies were discovered by a friend
Mr Glasgow tells the court of the moment the bodies were discovered by a friend of the sisters.

Adam's father pointed out an area of grass that had been flattened. Adam continues to search the grass and found a knife. The side of the knife they could see was clean. Adam rang police and ran towards the bushes. He could see some of the stab wounds to Nicole's body and her lifeless eyes were open. As soon as his parents could get to him, they took the phone and spoke to police.

The bodies were cold and rigid and it was clear they had been dead for quite some time. Police and paramedics arrived, but life was pronounced extinct at 1.42pm. They were lying top to toe with their limbs intertwined.

Hussein is 'liar and a murderer', court told
Danyal Hussein does not accept he played any role in the attacks. Mr Glasgow QC tells the court he is "a liar and a murderer".

Even if the defendant could frame an innocent man and plant his blood all around the park, such a conspiracy cannot explain what police found when officers searched his mum#s address in Eltham.

Police subsequently discovered handwritten notes at Hussein’s home address, including one in which he set out his intention to “sacrifice” six women every six months as part of a “bargain” with a demon , according to Glasgow. Lottery tickets were folded inside the note, which Hussein denies writing.

Jury told details of handwritten note 'to a demon'
Mr Glasgow QC tells the court that officers found a handwritten note on a glass table within Hussein's bedroom. It contained his "plan to kill and what he hoped to achieve", the jury hears.

Within a green divider, officers unfolded some green paper to find a note addressed to the demon Lucifuge Rofocale.

The note is alleged to have contained Hussein's intentions to "sacrifice women once every six months for as long as I am free".

This was in return for winning the "Mega Millions" lottery. Found within the note were three lottery tickets, the court hears.

In return for carrying out the murders, the jury hears, Hussein would "never be suspected of any crimes".

It would be interesting to know if this note was written and the tickets were bought before or after he murdered Nicole and Bibaa.

Yes, I wondered about that too. My guess is he probably wrote it before because I can't think why he would write about sacrificing women if he's claiming all this about being mugged and someone else using his bank card.

One of the searchers, Mr Adam, continued to search the area. His father, who had joined his son, found a knife lying in the grass. It didn't appear to be blood-stained, but he followed flatened grass and ran into undergrowth.

The scene was so shocking, all he could do was scream.

My heart goes out to the friend of the sisters who found their bodies. I can only imagine the horror of it all. To think that a short time later two police officers took selfies of themselves with the two dead women and shared them via whatsapp. I hope they do prison time. They're not too keen on coppers inside.

Oliver Glasgow QC, for the prosecution, took jurors through CCTV evidence that showed the two sisters buying food and drink on the evening of the birthday celebration.

The court then saw footage of the sisters travelling to Fryent Country Park for the party, on 5 June 2020.

Jurors were also shown video evidence that purports to show Mr Hussein, from Blackheath in south-east London, wearing surgical gloves and travelling to the park that same evening.

The prosecution alleges he had bought a set of Taylor's Eye Witness knives and "extra strong" UniBond Power tape the day before.

The issue about the note to the devil (the suggested motive) - and him saying it's all a big conspiracy (his apparent defence) is fascinating.

Ordinarily, people sometimes attempt to use a 'crazy-sounding' defence to avoid taking responsibility for an otherwise deliberately-motivated crime.

But here we've got a crazy-sounding motive, and a slightly-less crazy defence.

Ironically, if he wanted to increase his chances of avoiding a full custodial sentence, he should go along with the note-to-the-devil stuff!

In all, therefore, I'd have to think he's masking a psychosis or delusion. The trial lasts 4 weeks and we've heard nothing so far about mental capacity (unless it hasn't been reported/presented at trial)

During his trial at the Old Bailey today, jurors watched a video of a man dressed in a blue jacket and light jeans leaving Hussein’s father’s address on June 3 before heading to Asda in Edgware Road.

‘In this clip is Danyal Hussein buying various items including a set of knives,’ said DC Jo Hinchliffe, giving evidence at the trial.

The man is asked for ID in order to buy the knives and is shown to take off his face mask and hand the cashier a passport in order to confirm his identity.

‘He takes out his wallet in order to pay for the items. You can see a pink bank card which he uses in order to pay for the items,’ said DC Hinchliffe.

‘He tries to put the knife block into his bag but can’t fit it in. You can see him going back with his wallet.

‘He is purchasing one of those ASDA bags for life. He leans over the counter. He puts the block of knives onto that bag.’
