Finding it a bit worrying that there is no verdict as yet with what is - seemingly - such clear evidence.

11 jurors only, could that be causing a problem ?

I am surprised too,I really thought they would come to a verdict yesterday or certainly by lunch today.

Cannot see what would make any juror even consider he could be not guilty.

Like it was mentioned before, I would of thought we would of seen a result yesterday. I don't see how they could be deliberating this for so long.

Only thing I can think of is that a juror normally works evening or night shifts and wants to watch the football tomorrow!!

Seems strange to resume and then adjourn for over 2hours.

They can go down to 9 jurors minimum, but it effects how many are needed for a majority verdict. Can't remember the exact details.

I remember in the case of Emile Cilliers ( parachute - attempted murder of his wife ) in the first trial the Jury went down to 9 ( due to pre booked holidays and illness ) and the Judge said he would take a unanimous verdict. They were not able to deliver this. Eventually a retrial convicted him.

It can now be reported for the first time that Hussein had previously been referred by his school to the government's counter-extremism programme, Prevent.

In October 2017, aged 15, he was referred to the de-radicalisation scheme because of content he had accessed on school computers, including far-right material.

Hussein had a long-standing interest in mythology, Satanism, and the occult, the trial heard.

He was put on the "Channel programme" - for the most concerning Prevent cases - which discharged him in 2018, although he was seen again six and 12 months later.

Channel involves a multi-agency panel responsible for assessing the risk posed by a referred person. The programme is then charged with developing a support plan for the individual concerned.

The events leading up to the attack were pieced together. Detectives soon determined the perpetrator was a stranger. There was no logic to the killing of Ms Henry and Ms Smallman. No robbery, no deranged ex-lover, not even the warped depravity of a sex crime. They were chosen because they were there.

Hussein, who was also convicted of possessing a knife, was convicted after around eight hours of deliberations. He stood facing the jury and crossed his arms as the verdicts were delivered in front of the victims' parents.

Hussein set up an online lottery account the day before the killings using a photograph of his passport, the court heard. On June 7, the jury heard he spent £17.50 on ten Mega Millions bets and two Mega Millions syndicate bets - none of which came in.

The killer may have been attracted to the sisters because they were dancing around fairy lights they had brought to the park with them, the jury heard.

Mr Glasgow QC told the Old Bailey Hussein attempted to access Miss Henry’s phone more than 130 times between 1.26am and 3.48am, at which point it was dumped in a pond in the park along with Miss Smallman’s handset.

During the time he had the phone, the device’s data reveals that he walked 2km as he attempted to clean up the scene by putting bloodied blankets in bins, the court heard.



Families of both the defendant and the victims, including the sisters' mother, were in court.

He will be sentenced at a later date.

Nicole Smallman and Bibaa Henry were loving sisters who adored each other and had a real zest for life. But their lives were unexpectedly and cruelly cut short in the most horrific of ways as they celebrated a birthday together.

Danyal Hussein targeted them – two women in the dark. His actions were part of an absurd and twisted deal he thought he was making with a demon – and he executed his part of the deal with shocking savagery. His victims stood no chance. He had come prepared to ‘sacrifice’ women.

The prosecution case included CCTV evidence and strong scientific analysis of DNA and blood found at the scene which linked to Hussein.

Hussein has shown no remorse throughout these proceedings. He has consistently denied being the person caught on CCTV making his way to and from the park or being the person buying the murder weapon at an Asda supermarket.

The deaths of Ms Henry and Ms Smallman have devastated their loved ones and left a local community reeling. Our thoughts remain with all those affected.

In a victim impact statement read to court, the sisters' mother Mina Smallman said: "No-one expects their children to die before them but to have two of your three children murdered overnight is just incomprehensible."

She said that losing her two girls was "enough to shake a person's faith - fortunately it did not".

The mum also said listening to the detail of how her daughters died in court was "horrific" and made her think "this person cannot have a heart".

She added: "If any good comes out of this at least another four women will not meet a similar end in a so-called pact with a so-called demon."
