Sky News have a video of the hat being collected by forensics that looks weirdly...staged!? Sorry for thinking cynically!

ETA: Sarah Everard: Hat found in search for missing 33-year-old as uncle says her phone is 'not ringing'

yes ! how bizarre was that? it's cordoned off but then that officer just walks up to it with no protective suit on and places in the bag, why not get SOCA out to do that and wouldnt SOCA be also gathering any other evidence around that item?

I believe it is the same hat. On the cctv it looks like its folded over at the top with the bobble lying to the side. See below image ive circled what I believe to be the bobble. What are the chances a hat so similar to the one Sarah was wearing is found in a place of interest.

ased on this video and the proximity to the pathway this could have been pickup from the pavement and hung on the bush for the owner to find when realising they’ve lost it.

as far as I’ve seen searches have been on the common- haven’t seen searches of the pathways so it *could* have been missed.

that said I feel the hats are different. This one seems thinner like a cashmere/mohair
The cctv hat looks like a chunky cable knit and is described as a beanie.

we wait for news.

my question was about being able to trace it , even if it is turned off, I believe you can still trace it some how?

No, off is off.

But apparently the network provider will be able to determine if it was switched off or if it ran out of battery.

If she put it into 'location off' mode or 'airplane' mode, then it is still traceable, but this is not what happened. This phone went OFF and stopped transmitting anything at all. So further traces not possible.

I guess if the police already know it isn't related then at least it can serve to distract the video crews and paps for a while...

Obviously if it does turn out to be related then this will mean the case taking an even darker turn if a perp is taunting police.

Agree with the others - that video (posted) has convinced me that it can no way be SE’s hat. It’s propped so prominently on a flimsy looking bush, right next to a pathway. And as it’s picked up, you can see a thinner depth of seam/hem around the bottom of the hat than the one SE is wearing. I know you can fold them yourself, but my wife has a similar hat to the one SE is wearing in the CCTV where the chunky ribbed folded up hem is practically part of the design. The one in that video looks too fluffy and lightweight with a shallower hem.

honestly the chances are quite high at the moment - it’s not an unusual colour or style, it’s a busy area and will have been particularly so over the weekend and during lockdown when most people can only go out to places like the Common for exercise. JMO

Hi! This is my first post. I’ve been so shaken by Sarah’s disappearance and totally consumed by it. I can’t stop thinking about how her family must feel. I’ve walked alone at night in London so many times and never thought twice about it because I’ve always felt safe. It’s scary to think that isn’t the case and I know so many of my friends here have been shocked and we’ve all been talking about how to take extra precautions now.

I saw on Instagram that one of the search and rescue volunteers had said that the police are treating it as a murder investigation and that they spent a lot of time fingertip searching Clapham Common. I know Specialist Crime Command took over yesterday but this is the first confirmation I’ve seen from someone involved in the search that it is being treated as a murder investigation. They wouldn’t do this or provide so many resources unless they strongly suspect or know that she’s deceased.

Does anyone else think a vehicle has been involved? The fact she has not been found suggests she has been moved somewhere - Potentially further away based on the fact nothing has been found so far and after a weekend of the public being out and about etc and no one has come across her. I cannot see how you'd get away dragging a person very far.

Not necessarily but definitely possible. How about beckoned over to a call of (false) help and then taken into a building on that route?

Hi everyone. Someone commented on here that SE had planned to see her boyfriend after leaving the friend's house. Haven't seen this anywhere, do we have evidence of this (e.g. from articles or police comments) or are we just speculating? Thanks

It doesn't look like the same hat to me, the one in the cctv doesn't seem to have a bobble and isn't quite so 'fluffy', but as has been said up thread it should be easy to determine if it was hers or not via DNA, but anyone know how long that kind analysis would take?

Obviously if it does turn out to be related then this will mean the case taking an even darker turn if a perp is taunting police.

If the hat is concluded to be SE’s through friends confirming and/or DNA analysis then my money would similarly be on the perp returning overnight or even this morning to place that there. Which is a whole new level of “complex”. I can’t fathom it hasn’t been spotted before now if it’s been there since Wednesday/Thursday, right next to that pathway.

24 hours if it’s fast tracked

The chance of someone doing that is incredibly slim.

Various media (see Daily Mail) reporting that the call to the partner discussed meeting the next day. I am not aware it’s reported that there were plans to meet the same night (Wed 3rd) but the partner will know exactly what was discussed.
