Could someone please post for my benefit the exact locations of the known greyed out CCTV? I would love to go back and find but am mobile right now!
having looked at most if not all of the cameras in these locations, I've seen greyed out footage on all of them, at random times of the day and night and on different unrelated days too.

Here is Brixton Water Lane

I have just seen the news about the hat, slightly odd as it looks like it's only recently been placed there, maybe someone found it & placed in such a way that the owner comes back looking for it.
They have probably taken it to show her friend to see if she recognises it hence the cordon.

I'm not clear in the exact geography of all of the streets involved but as no one knows where she went or how after the last CCTV sighting I don't think that means anything, it would be shortsighted to assume she only carried on in one direction IMO We don't know where she went.

That's true, although the assumption has always been that she was walking home, i.e. towards Brixton Hill/Tulse Hill. It's hard to imagine why she would turn around and return to Clapham Common voluntarily.

Incidentally, there was a weird tweet yesterday by somone claiming to have seen her by Clapham Common at "11.50". AM or PM was not specified unfortunately, plus the tweet itself may have been unreliable (mistaken identity, all kinds of things).

can't seem to attach all, but this camera goes off from 02:40am until 04:50am, when it switches to the other side of the road.

At this point, I’m hopeful more than anything, and the pics aren’t the sharpest, but that hat looks ‘fluffy’ and the one SE is wearing in the CCTV looks more ribbed. Albeit that could be the grains/resolution of the CCTV camera. Can’t see the fluffy bobble either in the CCTV image but feasible it’s resting on the back of her head out of view. Hoping for the best...
Parma, sourced a better picture of the hat found. In this picture it appears to be more ribbed i.e see the weaving of the wooly hat. If this was found in the common today I find it hard to believe they have missed this over the course of the search what does everyone think? It stands out so much.

thank you so if they can trace the phone, why havent they?

They have! Remember, the police don't report on everything they're doing to the public. They release very little. Everything they can do, they will have done.

We know the phone was turned off or 'went dark' very near, or on, Poynders Road, after a phonecall between Sarah and her boyfriend at approx. 21.28hrs.

I saw that and dont believe it personally , if i had information like that i would be passing it on to the police not tweeting about it ,

It will be very easy to see if the hat belongs to her, there will be DNA on the hat either through hair strands or skin/sweat residue

She also had other items on her like her keys, mobile, purse, coat, headphones and a mask which she was wearing going into Sainsbury's before going to her friends possibly more items they could find in that area

surely police would say to her friend and partner 'was this image the same as the hat sarah was wearing or owns'?
before releasing it to the public and friends in this way? otherwise its just worrying everyone

this hasn’t been released by police it’s the press who have shared this, so I would expect the police have done as you suggest but the press have gone public.

They have. It was turned off or 'went dark' halfway down Poynters Road.

my question was about being able to trace it , even if it is turned off, I believe you can still trace it some how?

Are you sure? A quirk of iPhones is that WiFi is normally left on if you put your phone to airplane mode (unless it’s already turned off) but other than that only GPS would be working, which as far as I know is only a receiver, it doesn’t transmit info back to a satellite?

Most smartphones use A-GPS which is a bit more complicated than just a GPS reciever and uses GPS, WiFi etc to attempt to quickly establish your location faster than GPS alone. The reason this system was implemented was partly for faster location but also to enable emergency call dispatchers to track phones. There is more information here: Assisted GPS

Thanks for this, I must admit the sharper image has made my hope fade - I’m still holding on to the absence of a bobble in the
CCTV image, though very possible it’s simply out of view. The fact that it’s been found in the reverse direction sadly doesn’t do much to reassure me, as it could easily have been taken there to be disposed of by a perp who met SE along Poynders, or even abducted SE and took her there herself, or indeed it’s entirely possible that she double backed herself.

Just an idea but could she have dropped the hat accidently while walking through the common and then turned back to go and find it? Do we know if the hat was found close to where she would have been walking through the common? A passerby may have found it and put it on top of the bush to make it more visible for the owner to find?

If the phone is actually fully turned off when it is powered off, there is no way to track it as there is no power going through the components so it can't send or recieve signals. You can hack phones to make it so when it turns off it stays active silently but you're now verging on GCHQ/NSA level and it requires you to hack it in advance.
