The thing is that it would not be Mitcham fair if there was one because Tia would have gone there from her mum's house. EVERYONE knows of the main Ashburton fair as it is usually accompanied by a parade and has been going for years ( I am 56 and it was in existence before I was born and i used to go to it as a child.)

The Lions funfair was on 26th July. It would have been a day affair and there are not that many ways into the park though the likelihood is that they would not be charging an entrance fee and you would just walk in and pay at the various stalls.

Orpington is nowhere near Addiscombe relatively speaking. Tia was reported missing on ?3rd August. I just cannot find a logical funfair for SH and CS to search: so given the fairground workers denied seeing them, where on earth was it and why forget an important detail like where it was?

Why correct it to a funfair that was over? Oh dear...

"er no Ashburton". DS said that?

BIB Yes he did. I posted a link to the video in post #883 of this thread. He says it at about 6 minutes into the interview

There must have been a fair otherwise the fairground workers would have said the fair was not there on that evening.

DS did not show any surprise at SH's slip up as in I thought you told me it was Orpington.

Good point re: fairground workers.

We do not see DS's reaction, we only hear the word, "Ashburton," so have no idea whether he was surprised or not.

This deserves more investigation.....Are we absolutely sure there wasn't another fair after June 2nd, also held at Ashburton Park, around this time.

There was a different funfair:
26 Jul - Ashburton Park, Lower Addiscombe Road, Croydon London - Honorary Lion ... Croydon Lions Annual Summer Funfair ...
I saw a fun fair in the area, but I was lost and not from the UK, but it was opposite a Cost Cutter, same day that TS went missing (the 3rd), it was open but very few people around, it would only have taken 10 mins to have walked the perimeter (ot an hour as SH said)......

The funfair wasn't over, otherwise how would it be reported than nobody remembers being asked about a missing girl? The funfair was in operation.

Considering Tia slept on the sofa in the sitting room ,with her possessions in carrier bags it seems strange that she would have a friend staying the night.

This is purely an allegation that has been made and is being investigated. The truth is that she probably did have her own bedroom.

Did something else happen in Tia's home that morning ?
There has never been any comment from Tia's mother about the last time she saw Tia which I find slightly strange.

Tia's mum hasn't made any comment at all. I think it was all too emotional for her, nothing more

Actually, I can check. I still know people living within a stones throw of the park.

Meanwhile The Lions Fun Fair Day.mp4 - YouTube (take out the ++ as it would have embeded here. In fact, the Lions day is for the disabled.

I don't think it was this funfair the workers were from though.

I also wonder why the papers never said what funfair the workers were from?

The papers state 'fairground owners.' This would imply a commercial funfair. The Lions are a charity.

Maybe this is what SH meant in Orpington http://celebratingmums.wordpress.com/2011/08/25/like-fun-fairs-combine-fun-and-shopping-in-kent/

In which case, correcting it to Ashburton makes me wonder why. The Orpington thing makes a lot more sense if they did actually go anywhere or SH used it as an alibi. A bus from New Addington to Orpington is not so far.

But why would DS correct it to Ashburton (If he did so?) If it was corrected, then it was actually corrected to the funfair that was over. SH himself was referring to one that was still operating????

DS correcting SH from "Orpington" to "Ashburton".....perfectly natural. SH didn't seem sure of the name and almost guessed "Orpington", DS immediately knew SH had confused himself and interrupted, himself pausing momentarily to find the correct name of the park. Perfectly normal IMO

I can understand thet Tia's mother might have felt too emotional to speak to any reporter but if Tia's mother had been in the house when Tia left I would have thought a third hand comment might have been made as in Tia's mother said that Tia seemed happy when she left the house to go to her granny's.

Lot's of thirdhand comments I'd like to see reported. I'm positive (does that word exist on here) that Tia's mum wasn't instrumental or in any way involved in her death. I think she most definitely had suspicions too painful to consider.

I do not find it normal for someone who actually did visit this fair and would have given a statement probably on more than one occasion to the police to forget which fair he went to.

Unless of course, DS was used to SH getting things wrong in every day life due to his possible mind-bending recreational activities.

SH strikes me as the sort of person that would get confused by things such as place names. Ashburton/Orpington all the same to him. I had a brother in law who was exactly the same. You could correct him every time, but he'd still go on forgetting the real name.

Also, he may have thought it would benefit him in the future if he wasn't 100% stuck on a particular 'fact.' If caught out in a lie, he could always say that he meant something else. Known in the trade as keeping his options open.

I could understand this if it was in a personal statement to the police, but he knew what he was saying was going on national T.V .

I wonder why he agreed to this interview with the criminologist in the first place.

There are many things which we are discussing on here which are puzzling us that will be perfectly clear to the police as they do have all the statements from every one connected to the case.

I still find it strange that no mention of whether someone else was in the house when Tia left Merton. If Tia was on her own when after her step father left for work where was her mother and the two little boys.
This is normally reported as factual information as in :-No one is clear what time Tia left the house as her mother had gone shopping with the boys.

Because he is innocent?

We can not rule out that option. If he is innocent then someone else with access to the house must be guilty.

That would mean one of the family or as one poster commented the next door neighbour.

Where was DS on Thursday?
How friendly were he and SH?
Was this more than casual acquaintance or were they involved in some sort of dealings together?
How did Tia get up into the loft?
Who were the family members alluded to in respect of Class A drugs that were not SH?

every little piece of info seems to make me have more questions

Key questions!!

Isn't that a 'rumour'?

Possibly because it was not relevant? The police had CCTV footage of TS & SH in a shop on Thursday afternoon so that would have been their starting point, not when she left her home.
