Good idea.
The 50-something has just turned 60 (Steven).

4 of his 5 adult kids now live with Steve.

You know you have done a lousy job of raising responsible, happy children when 80% of them live with you well into adulthood. What a control freak!

IIRC, at some point someone posted a timeline of actions taken. Could an updated version of that be posted, again? Just to refresh everyone's minds?

If not, could you point to the old one?

Thanks.

I'm in NC and we have a similar set-up with our Department of Corrections. They sell to other state agencies, supposedly at a lower cost (not always). In NC they have a monopoly going - don't know about WA.

Anyway, if JP's dad does work for the WA Department of Corrections, it appears he doesn't make enough from his state salary to live in a gated community. Wonder where his other source comes from.

Looks like somewhere along the way he got promoted from a specialist I to a specialist II.

my bolding

Steven Powell's home has been removed from Zillow.com; however, the tract homes in the huge gated community are not that expensive.

Powell's house is a two story, but looks smaller than most of the neighboring homes. All the homes seem to be over 2,000 Square feet and the lots are small - 5,000 - 7,000 sq. ft.

Judging from the other sales in the neighborhood, I would guess Powell's house is worth under $250,000. It was probably built in 2004.

He should be able to pay the mortgage with his salary -- unless he manages money like his son Josh.

Actually, I just want to clear this up. Kiirsi is NOT the one who got a hold of Josh. She told reporters that first week that Jovonna was the one who finally got through to Josh and talked to him that first Monday afternoon, but the reporter reported it wrong.

Bold mine.

This may have already been addressed, as I am behind on this thread, but....my comment to the bolded above is:

Ahhh....so it was JoVonna who Josh was willing to answer his phone for....Hmmmmm....the ole "JoVonna Factor" again.

hey, if his lyrics sounded anywhere near that good, I would sit here and keep my mouth shut..or at least my fingers off the keyboard anyway!

ITA. I thought it was kinda catchy and cute. SP is sooooo far below that. I'm still recovering from listening to some of his songs.

I think it would be incorrect to say "church members support Josh." Out of hundreds in the ward, only 20 people showed up. I think MOST church members and MOST of Utah feels exactly the same way we do. Some of the people who showed up to help also think he is guilty but went for other reasons--perhaps to make sure Susans things were treated with respect and not tossed away or to keep their eyes and ears open for clues.

Thank you. I totally agree. It would be naive to judge a church or any other organization of 12 million people on the actions of 20. I don't know anyone who thinks this guy is innocent. He makes everyone's blood boil that I know of.

Thanks for the clarification. When I hear "gated community" I think big, expensive houses.

From what I understand, Jovonna, Kiirsi and many others tried getting ahold of Josh throughout the day once they found out they were all "missing" and something was wrong...but Jovonna is the first one who finally got through when Josh finally picked up the phone that afternoon.

I have no idea how far out from West Valley City he was. I have speculated on why it took him 2 WHOLE HOURS to get home from when he got the call that Susan was "missing".

I think he either was pretty close and just took his time driving home because he was scared and was trying to get himself together before having to face the police knowing what he had just done...OR...he was far enough away that it really took him 2 hours just to get back. If that is the case, it is possible he was still on his way back from wherever he went/took her and was just trying to get back before it got too late. Coming back from an area that he really did take her on his own, or coming back from the direction of meeting daddy halfway to Washington.

Those are just my own personal thoughts on the matter. I don't think anyone really does know where he was when he finally answered the phone that afternoon.

Thanks OK. I think LE can figure out generally where he was when he answered that phone call. But if he was still two hours from home, he had been gone so long that it wouldn't narrow down where to look for Susan. :(

BUT, it may help to know if he was E, W, N, S of West Valley.

I may have missed this, but I mentioned a couple of days ago the possibility that Susan or Josh had shared with someone where they really did go camping at some (normal) time. Does anyone know if they did? It's quite possible that Josh took her to a familiar location.

does WA have the grandparent's law? some state do some don't

Welcome, feistygurl. It looks like Washington's grandparent's law is very limited, if it exists at all, with regards to visitation. I don't know about custody...

"Unless a parent is mistreating a child, the courts have held, parenting is a fundamental right with which the government should not interfere. A court should be allowed to order visits only if the grandparent can prove that lack of visitation would harm the child, the Supreme Court said.

For now, this means Washington has no grandparent visitation law."

Hmm, research ! Thanks ! This gets me, re: efforts. In the latest vid, Susan's friend is being interviewed in front of a large background pic. Is it her neighborhood? Is it Susan? Is it Susan's family? Is it her husband? No, if my eyes are correct, it is not. Gotta go errand, BB

Which video are you referring to? Link please...

IMO, there is nothing more to Jovonna than a nice, kind of timid friend of the Powells who was just looking for them all that day, along with many other friends/neighbors. I think he just finally decided to answer the phone and there is not any more significance to it being her who finally got through than if someone else had gotten through.

IMO, if Josh did NOT act alone and if anyone else collaborated with him on this or helped clean up his dirty work, the only candidate IMO would be the ONE and ONLY person he trusted, his father Steven Powell. And if he didn't physically help Josh, I think he knows exactly what happened that night because I am sure Josh has confided in his father. This is all JMO.

I've heard this question asked several times here. It doesn't appear that anyone knows of any usual places they would go. Would be good to know that info, though.

OK...I can accept that, but why would such a timid person be all over the national media? I can see Kiirsi, and Josh's sister, but JoVonna just doesn't fit as a "media darling." ???

Whew...finally am caught up!

I'd be curious to know if the reason why Josh's sister and Mom live in Utah, but the boys (SP's sons) all now live with SP? Could it be because SP didn't think much of "women" and so he didn't care if his ex-wife took Josh's sister with her to Utah? :waitasec:

Agree, and the friends & neighbors should be providing this kind of info to LE, if not looking there themselves. Otherwise they could try to glean it off his computer (recent map searches, saved maps, etc) or from his car (old receipts, day passes, etc that might be in his glove box or dash).

The other places I would look include any kind of trash bins/dumpsters/scrap heaps/tailings piles near where he worked or anywhere along his commute route.

I think RayO has a good, logical point regarding searching. Hope this is happening. Thanks, RayO
I also considered the question of search in this way: I have seen people argue with a spouse, and go out to walk it off no matter the time or weather. If this type of scenario had happened, the need for people to search would have been even more urgent.
Though this is not my numero uno theory, it brings the point, why not a blanket effort? People have sense enough to know their limitations and can search and go home when they need to IMO. If I lived there I would not be on here, I'd be makin maps. All, IMO.

Josh was sure to have known friends/LE were looking for him before he finally answered his cell phone. Whoever was trying to reach him would certainly have left a voicemail message and probably tried texting him as well. Surely he was aware people were looking for him and he was just avoiding answering his cell or keeping it turned off. It would surprise me if he didn’t check his messages every so often to get a feel of what was going on. Which would make the delay even more than 2 hours. Probably a combination of travel time and then his reluctance to face the music.

Jovonna was so worried about hurting the investigation by saying the wrong thing or saying too much that she kept silent for over a week even though reporters were basically beating down her door. She didn't want to agree to any interviews until she talked to detectives over and over and made sure they had all the important info down and she got it cleared with them first on what was okay to discuss. Then at that point, she agreed to talk to reporters because she wanted to keep Susan's face and story in the news and she knew that everybody wanted to hear from the person who last saw her.
