'She didn't need to say anything': Amber Heard's lawyers say she did not need to make up a 'hoax' to divorce Depp

Elaine Bredehoft, Amber Heard's lawyer, now tells jurors she wants to discuss what the actress's motive might be to create a "hoax" about Johnny Depp.

She says Depp's team call her a gold-digger but that "she obviously couldn't have done it for the money".

In California, where they lived, divorce law is such that Heard didn't have to make a claim of abuse or have any other "excuse" to "get 50% of whatever he earns during the time of the marriage", Ms Bredehoft tells the court, unless they had a pre-nup or a post-nup.

In 2015, Depp made $43m, Ms Bredehoft tells the court, and £22 million the following year.

Heard was entitled to half of this, the lawyer says. "She was entitled to that money. She didn't need to say anything."

Depp's lawyers object at this point and the legal teams approach the judge.

When Ms Bredehoft returns, she tells the court that Heard only took $7m when she was entitled to more, and pledged to give this to charity.

While the trial has heard that the majority of this money has not gone to the two charities - the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and Children's Hospital Los Angeles - Ms Bredehoft says Heard started to make these donations.

She says Heard has not been able to continue with payments due to being sued by Depp - spending $6m on legal feels - but still intends to fulfil her pledge.

"She has to get out from under this first," Ms Bredehoft says, referring to the legal proceedings.

That's all a bit bizarre

Elon Musk is a good comeback for gold-digger:rolleyes:

You never really know what people think. Jury's have surprised us before so I'm not very confident that the jury here will vote team JD. For me it's clear who the criminal is, but I have done research etc, something the jury was not allowed to do. MOO

EB and BR sure said “ it doesn’t matter” about a lot of things.
BR actually said “ it doesn’t matter how JD’s finger was cut, AH could have cut it off with an axe … “
Sorry I don’t remember how he finished that sentence.
Lot of don’t look at this… look over here.
