Re: the animal blood
-last night I cooked a lamb roast, the juices it was packed with were not clear but a dark red and there was a lot - perhaps a few tablespoons. If I had seen these juices on a surface I would have described it as blood.
-cars often have very dark-colored carpeting or floor mats. My daughter once spilled an entire can of cola on the charcoal carpeting in the floor well of my car - I did not notice until a day later when my bag got wet from being in the puddle. I could not see a wet area.
-the coincidence of her having a new cat (reared on fresh meat) and a spill of unidentified blood in the floor well is something I can accept.
-apparently the test for which animal's blood is present is a very specialist test as it requires sample antigens from each animal that they are thinking to look for (I will try to link to the info on this). I am sure not many labs are set up to do this. I am optimistic that LE will find out and tell media eventually, but I can see how it may take a while

The Ouchterlony test is used to determine if a blood sample is human or animal through the comparison of its reactions to specific antibodies. A sample of the unknown bloodstain is placed in a well in an agar gel. Antibodies from human and animal sources of blood are placed in other wells in the gel. Antigens from the sample and the antibodies will spread out of their respective wells and will pair up to form an immune complex if the antigen and antibody are from the same animal source. The immunne complexes can be observed as a line in the gel, thus indicating the source of the blood.
