Family Cole Attorney doing their darndest to get Nadia to cooperate fully and play victim.

#1 Best case scenario for Nadia:
IF there is NO documentation (texts, emails) where Nadia is implicated in organizing this and knowing about this "ordeal"- she could play the "controlling/ abusive boyfriend" card and say that she was manipulated by Aaron and his family into cooperating with this crime.

But that's a BIG IF. The fact they've named her in the affidavit tells me they have a LOT more on her.

#2 Second best case:
Nadia has some details she can offer that the Feds don't know & hard evidence - the Feds agree to a less sentence/no sentence IF she dishes all she knows.

Nadia becomes public enemy#1 in the eyes of the Aungs, however ... is she willing to accept that for the rest of her life? She seemingly is of means, daddy a prestigious doctor.... her future is bright if she can just brush this under the rug & move on. Which, rich people are always quite adept at.

#3 (worst case scenario) IF she is stubborn, refuses to talk, Stands By Her Man and she thinks she will walk off into the Sunset with Aaron in 3 to 5 years after time served..... she's doing herself NO favors. Family Aung isn't going to thank her. Nope.

& She's an only child, right? She's going to risk the next 3 to 10 years mired in this kaka? Her attorneys are desperately trying to talk her out of this, I'm sure.

This time, I think she's going to go with Door #1.
 
From what I have observed in this case, it seems nearly impossible to have any belief that NC didn’t do this of her own volition. For whatever reason she elected to leave the airport that day. And IIRC NC also had some change of clothes and also slight change of appearance in the moments after she left? And for those reasons alone it seems she was involved in the effort once the child was not returned timely to the biological mother.

Do have to wonder what communication and text or messages AA and NC had in the lead up to this. And whether that evidence makes it more difficult for NC predicament. IMO all should be charged, and have to bear cost of any charges, fines, and penalties including possible jail time. IANAL. MOO

I actually believe that the whole idea was hatched and set in motion by Aaron’s parents after listening to Aaron whine. I don’t think Mama Aung is innocent. Nadia may not have realized the full extent of the plan (Mexico), which is why I think she’ll accept a plea in exchange for testifying against AA and JA. If the engagement isn’t off, she’s a fool!

TBH I thought Momma Aung was the driving force behind the kidnapping. I’m surprised she hasn’t been charged either.

Seems as Daddy Aung was in deep.

I just can’t believe the stupidity of the entire cast of characters. I guess they thought they could pull it off.

I agree that Mama Aung is very likely the main kidnap plotter. It will be interesting to see if she’s eventually charged.
 
Since Aaron and Nadia have not spoken, they seem oddly infantalized IMO, not independent actors (legally they certainly are adults), defined by their respective parents in terms of their glowing future accomplishments.

I’ve got to think there was an eventual Phase 2 for further movement by the runaway duo before Nadia was taken into custody with the passports. Even the seemingly controlling Aung grandparents likely realized that Aaron and Nadia would not succeed for long on the run while sharing responsibility for Seraya. I’m curious whether we’ll ever find out what Phase 2 was going to be.

I'm curious what reason you have to suspect that? What I've read in the media hasn't given me any reason to think that so it's always interesting to me when someone has the complete opposite impression (and how they arrived there).

Good question…thanks for asking. I read a lot of advice columns, and overly controlling grandmothers are a very common problem. So I have a gut feeling that she’s a Mama Bear wanting what she thinks is best for her son and grandchild. To me, grandma-knows-best fingerprints were all over that statement that was released maligning Seraya’s Mom. So it’s not a huge leap for me to see her wheels turning with an idea to get Seraya out of her Mom’s reach. I think she would see the new girlfriend Nadia as much “higher class” and a more suitable “mother” for Seraya. I could be way off-base and totally unfair to Mama Aung, but that’s my thinking process for putting her in the middle of this mess.

Thank you for explaining. I thought maybe there was something I'd missed that pointed right at her being as involved as her husband. While that may be the case, I suspect if she's never charged that means LE didn't have any proof she was on board and we'll never know if she was.
 
On August 2, after Aaron Aung faced a federal judge, U.S. Attorney Vanessa Waldref said Aung had worked with multiple people in the scheme to take his two-year-old daughter to Mexico.

"There also are very concerning allegations about how the defendant worked with his fiancé and family to be involved in removing the child from the United States," she said at the time.

Now we know three people have been indicted by a federal grand jury: Aaron, his father Jaimes who appeared in court August 9, and a still-unknown third defendant.

"There is another defendant who was listed in the indictment and has been charged, but that information remains under seal pending that person's arrest or appearance in federal court," Waldref said Monday.

She said there's no estimate on when that could happen.

Yep, it’s telling that the U.S. Attorney said:

That third person’s name will probably not come as a surprise once the arrest happens and the docs are unsealed.
