Also it will take you to where you left off in a thread by telling you in the first post after the last post you read. It will say New in that first post in the upper right hand corner on down to the end of the thread.

This is the feature I have been hoping for the most. For some reason, I have never been able to get this forum to take me back to the exact first post in a thread I am following. I am on other forums with equally old software where it works, but not on Websleuths. Even using the "marking" option means I have to scroll back to find the post that said "marking."

FAO beta testers.

Is there a "spoiler" function, or do "spoiler" tags work?

I've always thought it would be useful for hiding graphic content from those who don't want to see it.

TIA.

What is tap a talk

i watched some of the videos for the installation stuff ( fully aware that i would not understand much -- I did not let myself down ha! )

It looked awful to do all that stuff! And the guy was like a computer dude -- often computer people have assumptions regarding how easy it is for them and go to fast!!

The guy had a nice voice! tho !

We are going to have a "Welcome" thread on the new forum with instructions and this is where I will put up any videos I find.

Remember, if you have a blog on Websleuths you need to save your posts because those blogs will be lost.

If you don't know what I am talking about then you do not have a personal blog. For those who do here is the link https://www.websleuths.com/forums/blog.php

Yes there is and it works very good.

Yes, I love the spoiler feature on the formatting bar. It really works. You can’t see it unless you purposely click on it.

ugh ... the "Trophy Points". Unless someone can explain a good purpose for them, it sounds too much like a competition for middle school. I imagine some will like trophies and some will ignore them. Trophies just don't make sense in a crime forum.

JMO, as usual
TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU!

That will encourage lots of "bumping for ..." and "where are you ...? " and other "one-liner posts" and repetitive heartfelt posts.

We are going to have to scroll down a lot looking for the posts where people are actually sleuthing, and not trying to get points for trophies. JMHO

Just a quick update on smart phones in the Beta test. iPhone (IOS) and LG (Android) looked sharp with perfect format! Thanks to all who are working on the move. Great job!

Will the old WS policy of "Your not allowed to say your going to PM someone" on the public forums-just do it. still be in effect? The other question that I have. I understand that it is currently a WS violation to contact family members of missing and unsolved murder cases. Invasion of privacy concerns. That is understandable. But at the same time. Think of the TONS of information that could be brought to cases if family members of the missing or unsolved murder cases could be invited to this forum? It would be great comfort for many of them to know that there are people who care about their loved ones. At the same time, it would be a totally voluntary decision, whether or not family members wanted to join WS.

I think that if there was ever a change to the policy, ONLY admins and mods would be able to do the reaching out to family members. There are several cases that I would love to get family input on, but we can't currently because of the WS violation policy. I would like to submit some ideas for striking a balance between a way for staff to contact family members about this forum, while at the same time respecting their privacy about victim cases. It may take some time, but I think that a compromise could be changed and perhaps a new policy could be developed.

Satch

Satch, the policy of not allowing people to discuss or ask for a private message will still be intact BUT it won't matter at all because you can invite someone to your Conversation from your Conversation.

Let's say you want to "Start a Conversation" with someone, then you want to bring someone else into your conversation. You will be able to invite people directly from your Conversation. This way you don't have to do anything on the public forum. The invitation is sent to a member, they get a notification, then they can decide whether to accept the invitation to the Conversation or not.

Hope this makes sense.

Tricia

Horror, I saw your name a couple of pages back. Just jump in here anytime and bring robertmarilyn with you.

Oh Yes! That's another one of my fav things about the new software - the 'spoiler' feature! It's super easy to use, too - just hit the button in the reply menu and voila - it wraps the text in a spoiler tag so only those who wish to see the content will see it by clicking on the tag! We tested it out and it works great!

As I said over there in the beta forum - I really hope posters make good use of this feature, as sometimes there are things I wish I could un-know or un-see.

I've found that the trophy system for 'likes' tends to lead to a clique culture in other forums I've used. I also feel like it leads people to say what will be popular rather than voice their actual thoughts. We'll see how it pans out but generally I'm not a fan.

First, big thanks to Trish and crew for taking such good care of us. :loveyou:

And second. It's not make or break and I feel like a heel complaining, but I'm really going to have to work to see some parts of that pretty layout that's posted earlier in the thread. If there isn't a way to darken the main text and make the contrast better, eyestrain is going to cut into my time here. :tantrum:

Thank you Carbuff and please do not apologize. We will be making adjustments needed to make sure everyone can enjoy Websleuths.

Give the new forum a chance and give us a chance to tweak things. Remember, we will not be able to please everyone but we will do our darndest!!

I know I'm a weirdo (shush-up) but I sure hope a cool kid will invite me into one of these new private convo's occasionally!

: D

Dear fred&edna,

You ARE one of the cool kids. Start a conversation and then you can invite the cool kids.

I was wary of this new way of using our "Conversations" but I am liking it more and more.

Tricia

Yes!!! And I like to see new/ current things, but so many old threads are still active, I often miss new stuff.

And I keep wondering how I will go to sleep without my nightly sleuth reading! Lol

We will have a very active Twitter and Facebook page going on.

If that happens, I’ll settle with a mini trophy. I have a big problem typing just what I’m thinking. I often have to scramble for the delete button. I don’t think it will have much of an effect on current or longtime members, but newer members will notice it and it may encourage posting which is a good thing. Good or bad, here it comes. We’ll see but I will put on my most positive hat this next week.

I have to say there are so many cool things about the New Forum that I can't just pick one thing over another that is the coolest. They all are really cool feature's. I feel like a kid in the candy store I can't just pick one!

ETA: Yes, I hope people use it too.
