Oh Yes! That's another one of my fav things about the new software - the 'spoiler' feature! It's super easy to use, too - just hit the button in the reply menu and voila - it wraps the text in a spoiler tag so only those who wish to see the content will see it by clicking on the tag! We tested it out and it works great!

As I said over there in the beta forum - I really hope posters make good use of this feature, as sometimes there are things I wish I could un-know or un-see.

We have always had the spoiler feature here...
and the strike.

I'm not sure if there are any options for this, but thought I would toss it out there....

Is there any mechanism for very long posts to be shortened when someone quotes them? This would include large posts with several large photographs.

Its probably just a personal pet peeve of mine, but it really bogs down threads when people include a very long post as a quote and then just say something like "I agree" at the bottom of it. Also when multiple people quote the same very long post over and over.

I know we want people to include quotes so we know what they are talking about in a post, but I wish there was a way to limit how much of a long post would show up when quoted.

Thank you for all of your hard work, Tricia and everyone involved in making this forum.

I’m amazed by the many accomplishments by members of this site. I’m grateful for having had a place to mull over mysteries and read the answers to cases that hit home in one way or another.

Bye, old WS! Thank you for everything.

The new site it bright and sparkly: I wish it well.

Thank you Carbuff and please do not apologize. We will be making adjustments needed to make sure everyone can enjoy Websleuths.

Give the new forum a chance and give us a chance to tweak things. Remember, we will not be able to please everyone but we will do our darndest!!
I'm sure the new forum is going to be really nice and I'm looking forward to our new digs. Thank you for all the great work!

Good Luck on the move.........see y'all on the other "site" :drumroll:

I was hoping for a response to my question about Facebook membership for Websleuths access :waiting: I've been here a long time and have truly enjoyed this website. I will be heartbroken if FB is a requirement :(

I believe they’ve done that: if you quote a post with your reply, the first few sentences appear with the option to click on ‘read more’ and expand it.

Hi BDE! It was answered upthread, I believe. FB membership is not a requirement for access to the new site.

Add this to the list of things I love about the XenForo software. Condensed quote boxes! Thanks for reminding me Lexi!

Haha ... and I never learned how to use either. But I found it at the new site --- quite easy! See you soon, at the new forum

Well I've tried the spoiler tag before and it didn't work. Possibly because I used uppercase letters (can't remember now).

But the most used tag is
which is uppercase. Why on earth would tags not keep the same format?

BTW I'm ranting at vBulletin, not you.

Ridiculous.

Bring on XenForo. Please. Now.

Me too lexi! That is such a great function to bring up. Can I get a do-over on my favorite cool thing? You guys are going to love this one. You know, I just now thought about how much easier that posts will display on a phone. I couldn’t figure out how people could see the same number of posts on a phone than I can on an iPad. You see people, there are so many cool things, we can’t even get them all out without help from one another.

Thank you Sorrell Skye. I will make sure Dave sees it.

Is there going to be a custom 404 WS page in place of the present forum while the system is being updated?

I am not sure. I'll get with Dave. Thanks for reminding me.

How are you doing tonight, Tricia? Got any butterflies? It will all be great and you have worked hard for this. take a bow, sweet lady

I wonder how many of us will be refreshing our WS link constantly during the down time. I will raise my hand. :giggle: We'll be crashing the site before it's even open for business. Many of us are not known for our patience.

LOL, I am excited so I have the excited kind of butterflies. Websleuths needs this change. I can't WAIT!!!

Well, we have fixed part of the problem for you. We will not allow the big pictures like we have before. All pictures will be thumbnail size and only when you click on them will they become bigger.

Sorrel Sky answered the question that yes the quotes will be short and you can click on them to make them longer. Thanks, SS.

Thanks for asking. :)

I do not foresee that happening BDE. As of this moment the only way we would require a FB sign in is if things became so bad that we no longer allowed posting under people's made up usernames.

Huffington Post decided a few years ago that because the arguments in their comments sections were getting so nasty that making everyone sign in with Facebook would alleviate most of the problem. Rarely will someone say something terrible if they have their real name attached to the post. It worked very well for Huffington Post.

For now, for Websleuths we are not entertaining this idea at all so BDE put that worry to bed. I will never say never but for now, there is no reason to log in with Facebook.

See you all in a few days. Change is a coming.

Wishing all the very best for the transition!

I trust it will go very well, what with all of the advance preparation as websleuths has done each & every time there was a change over the years, and most notably this time.

My personal advice: Practice patience. Change is not easy for some - me too - but all will be ok once settled. Read a lot first - chances are very good that your issue has been answered already - as evidenced in this very thread. ;-)

I don't mean to sound preachy but...(well, I guess I am)...

Enjoy Life apart from the forum for the few downtime days. Returning to its fresh face will then be all the more lovely!
