I think the bank was paid off by the father rather. If he had let it be foreclosed on there would have been notices of default sent to the home and paperwork posted on the front door of pending foreclosure. Then, once it was foreclosed upon, the occupant would have been given eviction notices. I doubt if this went back to the bank JP was going to want to have a kidnapped girl there.
Are the property records available?
I agree, kk. :)

Yes, property record available at Douglas Co. Assessor: https://host.gcssoftware.com/Douglas/Search.aspx

I think JP will do whatever he feels suits him best, whether it be pleading guilty, taking a plea, or going to trial. Either way, I think he's going to wait to see/hear the evidence the prosecution has against him. I think he will most certainly plead not guilty tomorrow.

The timing of the father's transferal of the property makes it almost impossible that the father didn't have knowledge of some kind, IMO.

Great observations. What is increasingly odd to me is that no one can seem to get his enlistment records. Possibly a delay in access due to the government shutdown? And of course military lawyers (like many of the other lawyers circling around this case) will hold out as long as possible withholding information damaging to their respective clients.
Yeah. It could be because it’s the weekend, or it could be because of the government shutdown.

I’m not sure how it works if someone is discharged prior to graduation too, so that may be a factor here.

I expect we’ll have a clearer picture soon.

Area Leading To Where Jayme Closs Escaped Now Open
gordon-home.jpg
The area surrounding the home from which Jayme is believed to have escaped has been blocked off since Thursday. As of Sunday, however, the road is clear.

The home was surrounded by police when they were collecting evidence. From the street, it looks normal.

Several cars and trucks are in the driveway, mostly covered in snow.

This is normally a really quiet neighborhood, but it’s now receiving a lot of attention. Lots of cars have driven by the house very slowly. We even talked to one couple who drove 160 miles just to see the house.

Patterson was arrested in connection to the kidnapping of Jayme and the killing of her parents nearly three months ago.

His first court appearance is set for Monday at 3:30 p.m.

That picture was dated 2015, and the comment that accompanied it, was the reason I brought up him possibly having military experience, when he was first identified.

He would have been 18 then, which makes me skeptical of this “resume” that apparently pushes the date out by two years.

The New York Post article, says that he “dropped out of boot camp,” which is funny, because one does not “drop out,” atleast in the Marines.

I strongly suspect that he did go, but never graduated, or was discharged prior to fulfilling his obligations in regards to MCT or MOS school.

Even reservists have to meet this requirement before joining their reserve unit.

I don’t think he made it that far.

My ex husband left boot camp after a week, by mutual agreement...kind of like how our marriage ended...they agreed he was not suited apparently.

Jake Patterson’s Attorneys Speak Ahead Of Initial Court Appearance In Jayme Closs Case
Patterson’s attorneys say they met with Patterson Sunday night but did not say if their client has confessed to Jayme’s kidnapping or the killing of her parents. They said they have faith in the judicial system and expect to move forward with a fair trial.

Though Wisconsin allows a video appearance in court, Patterson’s attorneys say they will request Patterson appear in person given the severity of the case. Patterson is currently in a single cell at the Barron County jail.

We sat down with a local criminal defense attorney who walked us through what to watch for during Monday’s appearance.

“In Wisconsin, when you’re charged with first-degree murder it’s a life sentence and he’s going to have two charges plus the kidnapping charges,” Minneapolis Attorney Joe Tamburino said. “So tomorrow will be the initial appearance and the prosecutor could request he be held without bail for a short period of time – usually a couple of months – or request a large bail. It will be so high he’s not going to get out.”

Tamburino expects Monday’s initial appearance to take less than 15 minutes.

Jake Patterson may appear in-person or by video monitor.

Beyond setting bail, it’s a formal criminal complaint Tamburino says could be the most telling.

Please tell me they wouldn't set bail for this kind of horrific crime.

Here's another weirdness: Jayme is on record saying that he would "lock her up or make her stay hidden" when JP had people over. This implies that when people were not coming over, she was (possibly) neither locked up nor made to stay hidden. Lots to ponder here.

I've thought the same.He kept her hidden, when people came over, so they didn't know she was there.
Otherwise he may have taken her to other parts of the house with him, but I'll bet he kept her on a leash or something. jmo

Jayme's grandfather:
"Just a miracle that she got away from him," RN said.

RN was there to greet Jayme when she returned home. "I was the first one to give her a hug," he said.

She returned home to a new bedroom in her aunt's house, put together for her in a matter of hours after her family learned she was alive.

"You know what they told me, it's the first time they've seen a smile on my face in three months," RN said.

RN said Jayme couldn't be in better hands. His daughter Jennifer is stepping in to raise Jayme after the death of his daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Jim Closs.

RN says the family didn't want to exhaust Jayme, so the homecoming party didn't last long. And they didn't ask questions about three months the sheriff says she likely spent imprisoned in a Wisconsin cabin 70 miles away.

But RN is so happy that Jayme, who's known to be shy, found the strength to escape.

"I'm really proud of her for that. Very proud of her. She just went the right direction at the right time. I'll forever be thankful of the lady and her dog. And the people she took her to," RN said.

He never gave up his mission to "Bring Jayme home."

Yes that has been on my mind. Almost like he wanted to keep her and normalize her being there, as in beginning to manipulate or “brainwash” her, as you will-so that she will eventually want to be there and not want to leave. IMO
