From what I gather, it was all dependent on Casey directing them to find Caylee. Do you get the sense that they believed she may have actually been alive? The dogs had hit in the backyard, but the lab reports on chloroform didn't come back till later on.

Oh no. LE was pretty certain from early on that poor Caylee had met a bad end. If I recall correctly the deal would have essentially forced her to direct them to the body, while claiming that it was an accidental/negligent death. (so long as the remains were consistant with such). The problem for KC was the duct tape, which would have invalidated the deal, so she never responded to the offer.

In the first email, she states that ICA would have to waive in writting derivative use of any evidence obtained as a result...and so, ITA with everything you stated. ICA knew the duct tape was placed on Caylee and now way would she admit to wrongdoing, she just won't. She will take this alllll the way and I do believe it is SHE who's calling the shots on this..the team can advise but she has the last word...I wonder how that's working for her! JMHO

I think, though, that defense attorneys are somewhat like LE. They have to detach themselves or the grief would be overwhelming and they could never do their job. jmo

IMO, in the beginning he was feeling grandios (sp?) and was on a natural high thinking Casey would be the hit of his lifetime.

I suppose with CA running around with a hammer we can under his fear of her turning on him. ICA used duct tape on her own child - I would imagine the fear of her finding out he secretly knows she's guilty and wants her locked up forever is also understandable.

This duh-fence team has been a source of embarrassment to the Orlando-Bar for 2.5 years now and there's no signs that they will stop anytime soon.

Just think what a shock it was to JB who truly believed his client was innocent - when expert, after expert told him "Nope, no invisinanny could have done this; the crime happened mid - June and ICA was the only one known to have contact with that child. We can't find a single witness who has ever babysat Caylee, since she was 12 months old, not a single witness who knew Zany - nanny or not!"

MC on the other hand knew ICA was guilty before he ever joined her team; he even said so to the press! For some reason he thought he would be able to WOW!! the state and jury with his long career and wit - instead he has discovered he's just too old and lazy to put any energy into this pretense. He's now just praying for his own death or for this nightmare to go away, whichever comes first - he no longer cares.

Bang on the target with this post! I agree with you, Baez at least hoped ICA was innocent - how hard it must have been for him to sit with her in the interview room the night they found Caylee, knowing for sure what she had done.

But he has done nothing to show any kind of honor throughout this whole process. He shames his profession.

I think its more telling that so much of that Private Investigator budget has been going to find out info about people who rather clearly and obviously only ever heard of the victim well after she was dead (TES, RK etc) while not so much as 1 hour seems to have been spent investigating any witnesses who might have babysat or cared for the shild or had any contact with her before her disapearence. (oh wait, except for the Grunds).

I don't have issues with defense attorneys signing on to represent a client who may or may not be guilty, even one they clearly feel is. Nor do I have a problem with a defense attorney choosing to represent even as heinous an individual as a child killer. That is the nature of our system. They do a necessary job and hundreds of thousands of them do it every day in such a way that does not compromise ethics, integrity, rules of behavior or bring shame to their profession. The client deserves a fair honest and vigorous defense. Not a circus. This motion by the SA is an attempt to insure that she gets that, regardless of her guilt, innocence or the desired capital sentence.

Fae, ITA - Public Defender Roberto F. Dager (Lancaster, CA) has tried his best to defend Stacey Barker in the case of her murdered baby, Emma Leigh Barker. He has brought an expert on false confessions and a psychologist on board, that we know for sure (after first claiming she was attacked and her baby missing when she "came to" 5 hours later - SB eventually admitted what she did and where she stashed Emma's body). While I don't like everything Mr Dager has done over the last 18 months - I respect him and I believe he only has his client's best interest at heart. And I will say he has done nothing underhanded or sneaky.

IMO JB has been looking for fame and decided this case was a fine looking ticket - while I understand "death is different" I don't think JB has a clue what that means - he acts like he is entitled to special treatment by virtue of his Extra-Special status as a human being.

In spite of JB and his actions (or maybe because of them) States Attorney J Ashton is now concerned that ICA will not get a fair trial and goodness knows HHJP has been sweating bullets over this case since he came on board. JB is a joke as an attorney and as a human - while the bus came and went, I hope JB is aware of the Karma Train - it is surely coming and she has his name at the top of the list!!

I, too, am waiting for something to come out of that man's mouth that remotely sounds like what a lawyer would say. His paperwork- fugetaboutit! How will a jury take this man seriously? For Pete's sake, who puts a crest up in his office?
