2011.01.25 Defense Requests More Time to Submit Expert Reports

I just finished reading that and I am just :thud:

The DT expects a jury to believe someone with these references? :floorlaugh:

  • His International Forensic Research Institute has never certified a dog in human remains detection
  • Originally retained in November 2008 to evaluate the chemical analysis components of this case
  • Has no peer reviewed work on decompostiotional odor
  • He quotes non peer reviewed thesis work of his former students that he spends 10% of his time actively participating with his students
  • Has never collected scent samples, but he can design his own while picking apart existing technology without another solution :waitasec:
Then there's the bologna :banghead: :banghead:

I'm still reading..
bbm
I guess so...:floorlaugh:

I apologize IF this is a repeat posting..but it was posted yesterday early evening...I am PDF disabled..so cant read these myself..so hope some can give a synopsis for me

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- Some of the most significant events in the case against Casey Friday didn't happen in the courtroom, despite a hearing. Instead, WFTV found them in a stack of documents released by the defense. The documents involve the defense team's expert
witnesses.

Would someone kindly point me to Dr. Huntington's report?

I can't find a specific Thread for Dr Huntington...we may need to create one but he is discussed in this thread regarding Dr Neal Haskell's report

2009.11.06 Forensic Entomology Report Released #2

http://www.wftv.com/pdf/27085526/detail.html

Dr Furton was Hired by Baez in November of 2008 and that he had a Contract with Baez..

Furton's usual rates are $350/hr for consulting or in court testimony or depo

He agreed to a rate of $250/hr...did thinks he did about 12 hrs of work at that rate doing intial review of records
He invoiced Baez, was paid, But has not been paid since then.

He has done more than 12hrs of work on this case
He has agreed to the JAC rate of $150/hour

So in November 2008 Baez convinced Furton Casey did not have a lot of money and if hewould lower his rate...He Did.
(NOTE to Self...Baez did pay himself and Andrea = $111,000 from the $275,000)

Add to that note balance $164,000, balance after Furton is paid $161,000. Any other experts that say they were paid??????

None that I have come across

Koblinsky, joined the Team in 2008 but he is no longer on the List..so I guess we won't find out if he was paid anything

I have my reservations where Dr Lee is concerned...

I haven't read Huntington's report yet..

Fairgrieve..

[ame="http://www.websleuths.com/forums/showthread.php?p=6187136#post6187136"]Canadian forensic anthropologist Scott Fairgrieve joins Casey Anthony's defense - Page 6 - Websleuths Crime Sleuthing Community[/ame]
You must be tired. The guy was retained by Baez before that, he was retained on 10/22/2008!!!! (page 21) He says: "He was retained to specifically review materials pertaining to the use of human remains detection dogs."

The letter of engagement with no fees listed was signed on 12/4/2008. It states JB is responsible for his travel expenses :skipping: lol!

The defense experts as of 2009 that attended a defense team meeting at the AAFS show in Denver 2009 were Fairgrieve, Dr. Bock, Dr. Kobilinsky, Kathy Reichs and Dr. Tony Falsetti, Forensic Anthropologist. Not present were Furton, Huntington, and Henry Lee.

Ok I just read through all of the newly posted experts depositions. WOW! I will give Dr. Huntington credit. He actually seems like a sane competent knowledgeable professional testifying directly to his well honed field of expertise. There may actually be some interesting discussion there. If nothing else the defense may be able to lessen the impact of the term "coffin flies" (although it still does them little to nothing as the point became all but moot once the actual remains were discovered)

Now as to Dr's Fairgreave, Furton and Bock... WOW!?! Where does JB find these people? Or to be fairer to them, why exactly is JB using them in the manner to which he is? I mean beyond the obvious, "this is pretty much all he has left".

As far as Dorothy Simms. I think my prior analysis wasn't quite correct. I didn't put enough cats in it.

From Furton's Depo ( I can't figure out how to copy and paste)

Page 76 and 77 he agrees with Dr. Vass that the chemicals from the trunk are consistent with a decompositional event. So is the dispute whether it's human? Are we back to the squirrels? Or is this why JB is not using him for the chemical analysis of the trunk?

Well.........:twocents: It was an interesting "dance" to read! He's hired in 11/2008 and gee, even with a 77 page CV, the formal information from him (weighing in at NINE pages!) arrives to the State just a few years later 1/2011! Here's an expert in identifying chemicals in forensic specimens (HUMAN including LIVE HUMAN remains). Hired to review reports and did so for 12 hrs at a "reduced" rate ('cause the inmate didn't have that much money....?in NOV 2008????).

Research area expertise in dog & comparative instrumental detection of chemicals in forensic samples........:twocents: HOPE JA ties in his research premise is similar to BUT not the same as Dr. Vass in that BOTH are attempting to develop (Vass directly)/Furton (indirectly as in the "association" with the scent transfer unit machine) calibratiable scientific equipment for the field investigators! :maddening:
AND while we're at it, why bring the "Vass sniffer" into the equation since IT WAS NOT utilized in FLA! (this case)?:banghead:

:truce: The carbon tet "discussion" was priceless! The FACT that it was reported in the 4 PR'd studies/articles was insignificant to him.:banghead:

Better yet was the fact that he, the expert in decomp odors/compounds DID NOT know the COMMON COMPOUNDS :maddening: presented in the 8 studies HE specifically included in HIS data point, 4 of which were PEER-REVIEWED, 1 a "presentation" & 3 others thesis material/defenses presented to HIS "equivalent as peer-reviewers" graduate education panel (2 professors & himself!)!:banghead::banghead: He wants JA to accept that graduate degree defense documents are EQUAL to & undergo the same rigor as a "peer review" journal article!:crazy::crazy:
Then....never been the primary researcher in a human decomp study and HAS BEEN designated as the primary investigator BUT (pardon me other hard working, caring Ph. D.s over this comment) HE did a fantastic "dance" around the "meaning of PI title" for the students' work!
(GEE publish or perish much?) :innocent:

:twocents: UNCLE!!!!!! okay I give up regarding the "not allowed" by science law that he was spouting. MY READ: Furton can have his own opinion but no one else can and WHICH principle of science THAT follows is WAY beyond my pay grade!:seeya:

Summary: lots of mixing apples with oranges and the best was his comment over the reliability of a well trained cadaver scent dog! The compare and contrast of the day to day scientific inquiry & "hands-on" experience of Dr. Furton vs Dr. Vass SHOULD assist in bringing this "stuff" to light!

Oh my Joypath ... just tell us like it is!

I so much do admire your take/input and expertise opinions. You bring such a needed balance of understanding to this case Thank you.

ITA about Huntington. I'm only on page 32 of the first doc but very interesting and impressive so far. I see the trunk still smelled as of July 2010.

I know, how does she do that? I can copy and paste into Word and it makes a picture and I can resize it but I can't paste into here. And how do you do thumbnails?

I haven't read Huntington yet...

so 2 years later the trunk still smelled of ...pizza and trash.??? nice try Baez.

I believe you need the url link and then link it using the icons in the reply to thread post...Insert Link, Insert Image, Wrap Quote....

Now I know darn well Caylee decomposed in that trunk. :( I wonder why there weren't more flies in there? They flew out when Casey opened it, when GA opened it, and when CA cleaned it I would guess?

OT slightly ... the vehicle still belongs to GA and CA. 64k question; will they take it back after the trial is over? Because it will still smell the same as it did on July 15, 08 and no amount of Fabreeze or Bounce fabric softners will change or mask it.

JB knows this. Perhaps the courts should have ICA physically sit in the vehicle and JB in the passenger seat. Heck, put CA and GA in the back seat too.

JA seems really interested and fascinated by this guy's work. It is definately more interesting than happy plants.
