Update: we're up to 18 jurors but have to remember possible back strikes. Have 4 more left to question after this one
Hi ya'll :seeya: I'm back!

How can there be 4 left to question? I counted yesterdays group - after all those that were excused for hardship. We had 8 (but I also saw 7). Thoses are all 4000 numbers. So far today we have seen 6 of those 4000 numbers. That would only leave 2 left.

I'm becoming a little concerned here.

The only thing I am antsy about is the first 2 minutes of opening statements JB gives on Monday!
get ready for a laugh fest and breaking things around you....Time to JB proof your desk area before Monday.

That is what I am afraid of... I just hope that JB is smart and realizes that this is the fairest jury he is going to get... Judge Perry said that they will go to a more rural area if they do not find a jury there... a more rural area usually is more conservative and more likely to give her death!

The judge was only using the rural area for a place to interview the jurors they had from Clearwater because the judge was under the impression his last day to use the courtroom was Thursday and he was not going to use the parking lot. There are no plans to pull the jury from the rural area.

Just tell him to go steal some from Walmart! They won't miss a few. :floorlaugh:

or the horse could go and buy some sunglasses plus treats with a bad check and then grab a nice red cart

Judge said to JB yesterday with the Alternates you actually have two chances (more strikes) So he is not going to swear in the 12 first.

DT has 1 normal strike State has 3 then they have one for each alternate...so some of the good ones from the first part of the list could be gone.

I wish the Judge would swear in 12 and ask them if they want to use their remainder strikes before he swears in the 12 then go on with the alternates but I don't think he is doing that. MOO

As I understand it, the strikes for the jurors and the strikes for the alternates are not interchangeable. So the defense has one strike left and the State has three (unless HHJP gives them more, which I personally don't think he will do). They have to be used for the juror panel of 12. I think HHJP said each side would receive one additional strike per alternate, but those do have to be used on alternates only.

Anyone feel free to correct me if I understand it wrong.

Do you have a the number of "potential jurors" who have said "GUILTY" during their questioning in jury selection and have been "DISMISSED" by the Judge for "cause" ?

I lost count, so I was looking to see how much that number has grown since the first juror said it last week. I remember one day of jury selection there was like 4 or 5.

Thanks !

I've only started counting since Tuesday - 16:

Just before court broke for lunch, Perry made it clear that he expected opening statements to begin Monday morning in his Orange County Courtroom.

But instead of powering through the afternoon, Baez was absent after lunch and Perry called the court to order for less than a minute before adjourning for the day.

Dismissed by the State 3283: Male, 42, single, never married, no children, 3 siblings, served as a juror once for insurance fraud. Have anyone in your family been accused of a crime? Juror: "I won't answer that in court". Parents still living - from Louisiana, Mississippi - they are still together

Tuesday, May 17, 2011
Dismissed by the State: 3238:Cosmetologist, said one of her husbands was struck by a car, and a decision had to be made to remove him from life support. Retired, does hair on the side. All her previous husbands died (yikes). She is currently engaged. She appears to be in her 50’s and has really big blonde hair. Seat #54

Dismissed by the State: #3042 "Honestly, I've been praying for her, the mother," said Juror 3042, a woman who appeared to be in her early 30s. "I feel bad about the whole situation."

Dismissed by the Defense: 3190:This juror appears to be in late 40's. Petite. Blonde pixie haircut. Says she's heard a little about the case. Feels if someone took a life – believes in the death penalty. This prospective juror owns her own small biz, plays tennis, watches Dancing with the Stars, CSI is married to a dentist who works in NY.

LOL..it would be just my luck lol

I tell ya, I have never been so ancy as I am right now..

never in all the trials Ive followed have I felt this way...

well, many victims have touched my heart, but Caylee touched my soul and I want her to have justice and peace...

get the jurors sworn in, git her done!

Me too Ima. I just feel so sad that little Caylee has been betrayed by her whole family. The A's are all that Caylee ever knew. They were her world, and one killed her and the others are supporting her killer. I want justice for her, and peace.

Numbers spinning through my head....Wonder if the SA will use any strikes?

We know the DT team will use all available to delay this trial, but will the SA not use their strikes in hopes of having enough jurors to go trial?

I did notice that some man earlier tried to sit on the DT side and was asked to move. Is that for safty sake for ICA?

TIA

I hope that come trial time Monday morning they will stop the nonsense about having the mics turned off at the attorney tables ( so we'll be able to hear) and the business of having the area around the DT roped off so no one can see their secret agent material. It's getting beyond absurd. :banghead:

Either way......total numbers are not high enough to get through all strikes.

IMO
Is it me or does it seem that most pot. jurors get confused with the Age as a Mitigating factor question

AF: you said rape deserves DP. Rape doesn't carry that as a penalty. When we talk about punishment for murder one there are two: lowp or lethal injection. If they get dp they will die. If lwop they die in prison a till natural death.

yes

AF: is there anything about the charge itself that would keep you from following the law?

no ma'am

AF: recommendation of LWOP? anything keeping you from?

no

AF: death p, you are not for it or against it. if you had to vote to keep it or get rid of dp how would you vote?

I don't know

AF: religious or personal beliefs?

no

AF: belong to groups that take a stand?

no

AF: during the penalty phase you make your own independent decision and you bring to bear common sense and personal experience can you do that?

yes

AF: the media is here, does that bother you. everyone seems to have an opinion about this case. (yeah, af we do! )

I don't have an opinion.

AF: judge told you about agg and mit circumstances, agg are circumstances that might be shown that might make you think death is app, they have to be shown beyond a reasonable doubt, can you do that?

yes

AF: LWOP is appropriate but does not have to be proven can you follow?

yes ma'am

AF: if you find the mit outweighs the agg you are required to return LWOP can you folllow?

yes

AF: even if the agg outweighs the mit, you return LWOP can you follow that law?

yes

AF: age as a mit circumstance, could you consider?

no

AF: why is that?

as a factor?

AF: no could you consider her age?

yes

AF: background character?

yes

AF: eye for an eye?

no

AF: have issues with psychologists?

no

AF: lastly sir. from your back ground that would keep you from being fair and impartial?

no
