I don't want to sound ignorant, but what is the point of all this crap? Are they debating whether or not the smell of human decomp was in the trunk? Because if that's the point here, I think JA should just say, "NO QUESTIONS" and let the prior testimony of other credible witnesses stand.

I think they don't want the jury to think they're conceding a point or agreeing with the witness' testimony. Plus this is a good way to refresh the jury's memory.

This witness is trying to say food in the trunk could have given off the odor/chloroform. JB wants the jury to think that. JA needs to ensure the jury doesn't think that, rather goes on the testimony of the prosecution. This is a very important witness for both sides (though JA put him in his place).
