That’s why I was looking at an electric generator that you can run inside. A basic one to charge your phone, run a fan, maybe my mini fridge. I realize it wouldn’t last for days of course. I can’t pull it off right now financially but it’s been on my mind.

NYC Homecoming concert is dramatically CANCELLED half way in as Hurricane Henri barrels down on city | Daily Mail Online

New York City has been hit flash flooding amid torrential rain and lightning as Hurricane Henri barrels towards the North East, with millions braced for flooding, toppled trees and extended power outages.

The storm kept on course early Sunday and is expected to crash into a long stretch of northeastern coastline on New York´s Long Island and in southern New England.

With the center of the storm projected to pass over or just off the eastern tip of Long Island by midday, hurricane warnings extended from coastal Connecticut and near the old whaling port of New Bedford, Massachusetts, to across the luxurious oceanfront estates of New York´s Hamptons, to the summer getaway of Fire Island.

Some 55 million people are under storm warnings ahead of the arrival of the hurricane, and the National Hurricane Center warned that winds that could reach 80 mph.

Eversource, who provide power to 1.2 million customers in Connecticut, warned that between 50% and 69% their customers could lose power for between eight and 21 days, NBC reports.

Tropical storm-intensity winds were expected to begin striking the coast at around 8am

Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee tweeted on Saturday, “Tennesseans, please stay cautious of rising floodwaters caused by heavy rainfall in parts of Middle TN. We are actively working with emergency response officials & first responders as they support Tennesseans in flooded areas.”

The Tennessee Emergency Management Agency activated its emergency operations center and said agencies that include the Tennessee National Guard, the state Highway Patrol, and Fire Mutual Aid were responding to the flooding. In a bulletin, TEMA called the situation “dangerous and evolving” and urged people to avoid travel in the affected counties.

Henri weakened slightly from a hurricane to a tropical storm on Sunday morning, as its outer bands continued moving over the Northeast, saturating many areas and posing flooding danger for millions.

Henri's anticipated landfall on Long Island or southern New England late Sunday morning or early in the afternoon is expected to pose risks to much of the surrounding area.
And even if it doesn't hit those areas as a hurricane, it will be dangerous enough to bring damaging winds and storm surges that threaten to bring down trees and power lines along with major flooding.
Henri is about 50 miles southeast of Montauk Point, New York, with 70 mph sustained winds, according to the latest update from the National Hurricane Center (NHC). A hurricane has winds of 74 mph or higher.

A hurricane warning was in effect for much of the Long Island coast along with parts of Connecticut and Massachusetts and Block Island.

Tropical Storm Henri made landfall in Westerly, Rhode Island early Sunday afternoon, bringing with it potentially dangerous winds, and storm surges as well as flooding rain to areas across the New England Region.

As of its 12.30pm storm watch update, the National Hurricane Center reported that the storm had come ashore at 12.15pm with wind gusts of up to 70 miles per hour.

Waves off the coast of Rhode Island's Block Island were recorded as reaching up to 19 feet, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and flooding rains were expected in New York's Hudson Valley, Connecticut and Massachusetts.

NWS offices in the area issued a flood watch for more than 35million people across the Northeastern US.

As of around noon, nearly 115,000 people from New Jersey to Maine were without power, according Poweroutage.us.

Tropical Storm Larry strengthening quickly, expected to become a hurricane overnight

As of 4:30 p.m. ET, the storm was churning about 370 miles west-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands, with maximum sustained winds of 70 mph.

Tropical disturbance still expected to pass over Florida; Hurricane Larry spins in Atlantic

An area of low pressure in the Bay of Campeche is expected to reach the northern Gulf of Mexico in the coming days, but it’s chances of tropical development remain slim -- for now.

The tropical disturbance has a 30% chance of development over the next five days.

The system is projected to pass over Florida later this week -- bringing rain but not tropical conditions -- and could likely develop in the Atlantic as it moves along the coast of the Carolinas next week.

Meantime, Hurricane Larry continues to spin about 1,500 miles away from the Florida coast.

Larry, a Category 3 hurricane packing 120 mph winds, will bring strong rip currents to Central Florida beaches for the next several days.

As of Tuesday morning, Larry was 830 miles southeast of Bermuda and heading northwest at 10 mph.

The projected path from hurricane experts shows Larry moving east of Bermuda by Thursday night.

If Larry stays on that path, it will not directly impact the United States.

The next named storms will be called Mindy and Nicholas.

Sept. 10 marks the peak of hurricane season.

Sounds like more flooding coming to the northeast.....

Hurricane Larry to slam Atlantic Canada after sideswiping Bermuda (msn.com)

Hurricane Larry, an enormous storm spinning over the open ocean, will unleash far-reaching impacts as it continues its long trek across the Atlantic. It will deal a glancing blow across Bermuda as dangerous seas and surf propagate outward to the East Coast of the United States. AccuWeather forecasters expect parts of Atlantic Canada to take a head-on hit from Larry, which will remain a massive storm, with either a dangerously close approach or direct landfall

For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:
The National Hurricane Center is issuing advisories on Hurricane Larry, located over the central Atlantic several hundred miles southeast of Bermuda.
1. Disorganized cloudiness and a few thunderstorms over the central and eastern Gulf of Mexico are associated with a surface trough and an upper-level disturbance. The system is expected to move northeastward over the northeastern Gulf of Mexico later today.
Upper-level winds could become slightly more favorable to support some tropical or subtropical development as the system nears the northern Gulf coast tonight or early Thursday. The disturbance is then expected to cross the southeastern United States, and some additional development will be possible after it emerges off the southeastern United States coast late this week. Regardless of development, areas of heavy rainfall will be possible across portions of the Florida panhandle and southern Georgia through Thursday, with localized flooding possible.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...medium...50 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days...medium...50 percent.

The newest tropical system took shape over the Gulf of Mexico, just off the coast of Florida, late on Wednesday afternoon and was set to make landfall almost as quickly as it formed.

Tropical Storm Mindy formed at 5 p.m. EDT 90 miles west-southwest of Apalachicola, Florida, with maximum sustained winds of 40 mph and it was moving northeast at 21 mph. Although the center of the storm was offshore, tropical downpours were already soaking parts of the Southeast.
