It was a beautiful ceremony. The President addressed the loss of the 5 students who passed away in the academic year who were being awarded posthumous degrees. I missed what he said about Guadalupe Ruiz's degree.

Regarding Xana, Ethan, Maddie and Kaylee, he said they met with Xana's family in a private ceremony on Monday and awarded them her degree, and they would be sending Ethan's degree to his family in the coming weeks. Maddie's parents accepted her degree in person. I didn't see Kaylee's 4 siblings or the Goncalves family accept hers, but they could have come up when I stepped away.

ETA: Louis Freeh's commencement speech was very moving and inspirational. He mentioned them all and gave many words of wisdom. <3
I agree, it was a beautiful ceremony and the Commencement speaker, former director of the FBI, Louis Freeh, mentioned the tragedy this past year and the impact on the university and the community. He also acknowledged the presence of the FBI who were there.

The University President said that they met on Monday with Xana's family and gave them a Certificate of academic recognition for her achievements at U of I. And they said that they were mailing a Certificate recognizing Ethan's academic achievement to his family.

Maddie's parents - mother and spouse were first on the stage to receive Maddie's post-humous bachelor's degree, and then Maddie's father was next and he also received a copy of Maddie's post-humous bachelor's degree on stage. This afternoon's ceremony will include the awarding of Kaylee's post-humous baccalaureate to her family. The University President said that the family members will always be a part of the U of I community.

It was well done with respect and dignity. I applaud the leadership team at U of I.

Also, the Student Government president (past president) spoke and she also mentioned the tragedy this year.

It looked like Maddie's mom, step dad and father accepted hers, and I'm almost positive he said Kaylee's family will get hers in the afternoon ceremony.

How noble to honour the victims.

The degrees they worked hard for.

Beautiful gesture.

Thank you. I think the Goncalves' family will be at the 2 p.m. ceremony because of the way U of Idaho breaks up the award ceremonies by colleges. It was beautiful.

I still cried like a baby.

That's right, thanks, @maconrich, it will be this afternoon for Kaylee's school of study, I knew that earlier that it was going to be in 2 parts... but I got emotional : } and then confused when they ended the ceremony without saying "we'll be back later".

Just saw this today:

Did we discuss this before? It's interesting the defense scored a box of receipts. I assume they've shared the contents with the State. I do wonder why those were left behind (by Pullman LE). Was their search warrant not broad enough? Or was it something they overlooked? (Was it hidden? Where was it??)

From the article:
I don't recall any discussion of the "box of receipts", but sometimes my memory on this case feels as dense as "a box of rocks" because there is so much information :p I wonder if LE photographed all the receipts and left the originals behind? Or would they have listed what they photographed in the document? Or maybe they looked through them and they were all school-related, so nothing of interest. jmo

RSBBM: didn't realise donkey was a bad word...learn something new everyday.
Me too, it can be surprising what words pop up as censored, IMO. I was posting on an offside chat thread about my neighbor's rooster and the well known sound it makes when it crows from dawn to dusk, and the word at the front of "-a-doodle-doo" was censored ;)

ETA: Not wanting to post off topic, so I'll refer back to what OP said about a donkey on this case.

Thanks for the time reminder and link again!

I hope they will re-stream the ceremony again after the live-stream for those of us who won't be watching it. I'd really like to see the poignant but proud moment when Kaylee's family receive her posthumous bachelor's degree.

You're welcome, it's just starting with the Scottish marching band playing the bagpipes and leading everyone in.

I will look for video after the fact and post if/when I can. I know some members are not able to live stream and some maybe can't because they're not in the US (@Dotta?).

The video of today's University of Idaho Spring 2023 Commencement ceremony where Kaylee, Ethan, Maddie and Kaylee were awarded posthumous certificates in their majors will be uploaded here in the next few days:

Videos of Past Commencements - University of Idaho

In both the morning (Xana, Ethan, and Maddie) and afternoon (Kaylee) ceremonies, the announcements and speakers and speeches were the same. Except Louis Freeh edited his speech a bit in the afternoon apparently due to input from his "editors" on his morning version, but I felt like the content and spirit of both versions were mighty nice.

It was bittersweet and yet wonderful to hear all 4 of them get their posthumous degrees, and to see Maddie's parents this morning and Kaylee's siblings this afternoon accept their diplomas.

You're welcome, @Dotta, it must be a bit frustrating to not be able to watch videos here in real time on cases you care about.

I was so moved by the Commencement speeches today, I will probably post some written excerpts here along with video clips, for you, and for posterity !

Nice information on the Ceremonies.

They would have to leave behind anything not covered in the Search Warrant. I suspect that the receipts were for items unrelated to what the Search Warrant required.

And receipts are not necessarily all store related. There could be medical receipts (an employee mentioned BK had a medical appointment) repair receipts, rent receipts, bill receipts, insurance payments, etc... all kinds of things unrelated to the investigation.
