Abby & Libby - The Delphi Murders - Richard Allen Arrested - #209

I heard the defense is calling him on Monday. I think it’s important info if he told the FBI he didn’t drive straight home. The jury will have to decide how much weight to give it.

It seems as if the D was totally surprised by the way BW’s van fit into RA’s ‘interrupted’ timeline. They didn’t seem prepared for that at all, if nothing else shoving a subpoena to BW while on the witness stand.

Numerous times in the past they acknowledged discovery was missing or poorly organized and so I wonder if they discounted anything of importance was there when running off instead with their 3rd party defense.

I think they’re living on wishful thinking and it’s yet another nothing burger. We’ll see. JMO

huh? Here are the three things Richard Allen knew that only the murderer would know:

1) He was spooked by the white van while he tried to SA the girls
2) The girls had their throats cut
3) Their bodies were covered with sticks

GUILTY!

Anyone with discovery knew those details.

The van thing was being discussed very early on SM as well, and D has already stated it was in discovery hundreds of times.

I doubt those records would still be available 7 years later.
If the police had BW as arriving home in the relevant timeline, wouldn't THEY have gone after any records that suggested he did or did not go directly home as he told them? Do we know if the police did take this investigative step to confirm his story?

2. If the phone stopped moving at 2:32pm, then how does it make sense that the phone is already across the creek by the time that the guy arrives home? Does that not mean the accused could not have seen a van at all - he's already over there doing the murders, no? This is moo but also seeking clarity...

Nothing to indicate the police did anything to verify BW location after he left work.

So how will the jury take those videos of RA not being shown to the courtroom vs those crime scene/autopy photos of the girls being shown to the courtroom?

Will any of them put more weight on the importance of these because of that?

IMO a very poor decision to not show these videos today.

The following things can be all true:

-RA is the murderer
-LE was terrible in their investigation, dismissing the FBI, losing interviews, not writing into notes interviews and evidence, honestly the whole thing was terrible MOO
-RA was inhumanely treated to potentially an egregious point and he was experiencing psychosis during this time

MOO but LE was lucky RA gave all these confessions because if he did not this falls apart to me

That’s pretty much where I’m at.

The only thing I differ with is the importance of the confessions. They’re crucial if one doesn’t not believe the ballistic analysis, but far less important if one does.

I wish those results had been independently verified by the FBI, and it will be interesting to hear from the defense expert on the subject.

I very much agree with both of you. MOO.

Do the lawyers have the ability to draft a subpoena right there as court is in progress? Or would they have had to have had the subpoena prepared ahead of time in order to have served it as the witness was on the stand? Not moo - asking. Ty

I’m pretty sure one of the witnesses on Friday said they never did an extraction of BW phone or received any phone records.
Nothing to indicate the police did anything to verify BW location after he left work.
Prosecution cross-examined Mullin. Not only did the police chief deny feeding Weber information about the van, but Mullin stated phone records backed up Weber’s account of driving straight home after work.

Strange.

Can you tell me another case where guards actually videoed someone not convicted of a crime every time they took them out of the cell.

How else could inmates be protected from Odinist guards who forced them to say a bunch of stuff that’s not true? But seriously, after this case and all the baseless allegations I’m sure guards and prison workers must be grateful for video surveillance even during transfers. MOO

My understanding was BW went to police in 2017 as soon as he heard about the crime, allowed them to search his property, test his gun etc. JMO
Do we know: did LE go get his work records? Confirm that he went wherever he said he went, directly, no stops? Did they check the story with traffic cams? Plate scanners? The gps on the infotainment system maybe if applicable? I'm asking - what steps, if any did the LE take to confirm the statements made by BW. If none, if they took him at his word why? Ty in advance to anyone who knows. I'm very curious about this particular witness and his timing.

9. Today’s testimony really upset some people in the courtroom – including friends & relatives of the victims. They were angry the defense insisted the videos not be shown to everyone in the courtroom out of respect for Richard Allen and his dignity.

10. They say Abby & Libby did not get that same respect, especially because pictures of their dead bodies, including Libby German lying naked in the woods, were shown to everyone during testimony just a few days ago.

My interpretation: I believe it discredits the timeline given in the confession and therefore the confession must be false...

Thank you ... I wondered about the Freedom Bridge loop.

Libby and Abby were dropped off at the Mears Entrances, so Libby and Abby must have been on the bridge trail before the witness headed towards the Freedom Bridge.

Yea they were at the slight bend on the trail between Mears and the MHB as she passed them.
Almost exactly where the Monon High Bridge label points to on your map.

AB said it didn't look handwritten alluding to the fact they didn't prepare it there in court.
